For a concrete U.S. benchmark, Hagerty’s July 2026 guide puts a good-condition 1989 930 Cabriolet at $142,000, with a displayed range of $123,333–$163,000. That is a reference for one configuration—not a universal price for every 930.
Current Porsche 930 values depend on the car and the market
“Porsche 930” covers multiple model years and body styles, so a useful valuation needs to identify the specific car and the currency. Hagerty’s U.S. page lists a July 2026 good-condition estimate of $142,000 for a 1989 930 Cabriolet, with a low/high range of $123,333–$163,000. The same page reports a $211,200 average sale price across 118 sales of 1975–1989 930s over the preceding 12 months; that broad average is not a direct valuation of an individual car.
In a separate market and currency, Hagerty UK’s guide for a 1989 3.3 Coupe lists £85,800 in fair condition, £132,000 in good condition, £163,000 in excellent condition, and £217,000 in concours condition. These British-pound figures describe a Coupe in the UK guide, not the U.S. Cabriolet above.

Recent sale prices show why one number can mislead
Hagerty’s records for 1989 Cabriolets include sales at $140,682 on May 25, 2026, $142,800 on April 25, $234,005 on September 25, and $445,000 on August 14. These are individual transactions, not a representative average or a promise that another car will sell for the same amount. A comparison is meaningful only when the cars are reasonably similar in year, body style, specification, and condition.

What moves a 930’s value?
Year and transmission
Model year affects the car’s equipment and desirability. Hagerty notes that the 930 returned to the U.S. market in 1986 after being withdrawn in 1980. For 1989, the five-speed G50 replaced the earlier four-speed. A buyer comparing years should check the actual car’s configuration rather than assume that all 930s share the same specification.
Body style and condition
Coupe, Targa, and Cabriolet are distinct configurations, and guide figures for one should not be applied automatically to another. Condition also makes a substantial difference: Hagerty UK’s 1989 Coupe ladder ranges from £85,800 fair to £217,000 concours. Those categories are guide classifications; an inspection is needed to judge a particular car.

Factory specification and paperwork
Hagerty’s December 2, 2024 U.S. report lists a 30% adjustment for a factory Slantnose and reductions for gray-market cars depending on EPA/DOT paperwork. These are adjustments in that report’s valuation methodology, not universal premiums or deductions for every market or sale.
Originality, provenance, mileage, and maintenance
Originality, documented history, mileage, and maintenance records can affect how confidently a buyer assesses a car and how it compares with guide examples. The available figures do not establish precise, universal dollar adjustments for each factor. When comparing listings or sales, look for the same year, body style, specification, and broadly similar condition, then account for the documented differences rather than applying a made-up formula.
Why the 930 is called the “Widowmaker”
The nickname refers to the 930’s reputation for demanding handling, not an official Porsche model name. Hagerty’s December 2, 2024 report describes the turbo’s response as “on” or “off,” noting that boost arriving suddenly mid-corner could make the car tricky to handle. That history helps explain the nickname; it does not establish a specific safety record or justify treating the label as a valuation category.

Hagerty UK says European production began in March 1975 with a 2,994 cc flat-six rated at 260 bhp, and that a 3.3-liter engine with an intercooler arrived in 1978. Its historical page estimates 20,581 Turbo 911s built, including 284 in 1975. These are Hagerty’s published historical figures.

A guide value is not an insurance payout
A market guide can help frame a purchase or sale, but it does not itself set insurance coverage. Hagerty UK says its guide values do not imply insurance coverage. Hagerty’s 2024 U.S. report says the guaranteed amount shown on the policy declarations page governs coverage in a claim. Owners should check their own policy documents and insurer’s terms rather than assume a guide estimate will be paid out.
