Changing mining pools does not normally move an unpaid balance to the new pool. Rewards already recorded in your old pool account stay subject to that operator’s payout rules. Redirecting your miner changes where future work is credited; it does not create an automatic transfer of past earnings.
Before switching, record the old account’s balance, coin, payout address, threshold and pending status. Keep access to that account and its payout records until the money reaches your wallet. Depending on the pool and coin, you may receive an automatic payment, request a below-threshold withdrawal, or follow an inactive-account procedure.

What changes when you point your miner at a new pool?
A pool account and a mining connection are separate things. Your mining software sends new shares to whichever pool address you configure. The pool that accepts those shares calculates and credits the resulting rewards. Previously credited rewards remain in the original account unless that pool’s published policy says otherwise.
Published operator guidance does not describe an automatic transfer of an old balance merely because a miner changes the server address. The safest assumption is therefore:

- Work completed before the switch remains recorded by the old pool.
- Work completed after the switch is credited by the new pool.
- The old pool’s threshold, schedule, fees, security holds and account-status rules still govern the old balance.
This is a practical assumption, not a guarantee that every operator retains funds forever. Terms can differ by jurisdiction, asset and account status. If the old pool’s policy is unclear, ask its support team whether the balance remains claimable and what evidence or procedure it requires.
How an old pool can pay an unpaid balance
“Unpaid” can mean several different things: the balance has not reached an automatic minimum, a payout is waiting for the next settlement run, a security hold is active, or the account has stopped mining and needs a special request. Identify which situation applies before concluding that funds are lost.

Automatic payouts are pool- and coin-specific
Some operators evaluate balances daily, but the time and minimum vary. f2pool says daily settlement begins at 00:00 UTC and that threshold-qualified payouts generally finish by 08:00 UTC, subject to listed coin exceptions. A payout that has not reached the threshold can remain in the account for a later run.

Braiins describes configurable financial accounts in which confirmed rewards are stored and payout rules—such as schedules and thresholds—can be selected. Its guide says payouts are evaluated daily. That is an example of a configurable model, not a rule that applies to every pool.
Below-threshold balances may have a manual route
A balance below an automatic minimum is not necessarily stranded. Some pools provide a separate manual-withdrawal minimum, often with stricter conditions and a fee. Availability is not universal, and a manual minimum can be different for every coin.
For example, f2pool’s help article updated August 14, 2026, says miners can use its “Manual Withdrawal” function when a balance is below the automatic threshold but meets that coin’s manual minimum. The account must have stopped mining for more than 24 hours, and requests are limited to once every 30 days after mining has stopped. The article lists a default manual threshold of 0.0005 BTC for Bitcoin and a 0.000001 BTC fee for Bitcoin Lightning withdrawals. It also states that manual withdrawal is unavailable for some coins. These figures are volatile; check the current withdrawal screen for the exact asset and network before submitting a request.

Confirm the receiving wallet or exchange’s minimum deposit before withdrawing. A technically successful transfer can still fail to credit an exchange if the amount is below that service’s deposit minimum or if the selected network is unsupported.

Inactive-account procedures are different
Some operators process small balances after an account becomes inactive instead of offering an on-demand withdrawal. Hiveon’s published FAQ describes payment on the 28th of the month after seven days of inactivity for specified assets and amounts below its fixation threshold. The page includes legacy Ethereum and Ethereum Classic details, so do not treat those dates or assets as universally current. Check the operator’s present FAQ and the status of the specific coin and pool.
Some balances remain in the pool account
Binance Pool’s official FAQ lists different settlement models by coin and says rewards for some merged-mining coins remain in the pool balance when they are below the minimum payout threshold. It also notes that certain merged rewards require an external address to be configured. This illustrates why you must inspect asset-specific settings; it does not establish that every old balance is automatically forwarded after a switch.
Why a payout may be delayed even after you stop mining
A balance can look unchanged for reasons unrelated to switching pools. f2pool lists several possible holds:

- A recent change to the payout address.
- A payout that was paused in account settings.
- A threshold change that moved the balance below the new minimum.
- An address that has not been activated.
- An account suspension or other security restriction.
f2pool specifically says changing a wallet address triggers a three-day payout pause. Treat that period as a security control, not evidence that the balance disappeared. Review the payout history, account notices and address settings, then wait for the documented hold to expire before opening a support case.

Checklist before you switch pools
Complete these steps while you can still sign in to the original account:
- Record the balance. Write down the asset, exact amount, pending and confirmed portions, and the time and date shown by the dashboard. Screenshots and exported payout history can help resolve a later account dispute.
- Copy the payout settings. Note the destination address, selected network, automatic threshold, manual minimum and any configured schedule. Do not assume the new pool uses the same network or minimum.
- Read the current coin-specific withdrawal page. Look for manual withdrawal, inactive-account treatment, minimum balance, required inactivity period, request limits, fees and supported payout networks.
- Check address-change rules. If you need to change the old wallet address, find out whether a security pause applies and when the next payout can occur.
- Verify the destination. Confirm that your wallet or exchange accepts the asset and network and that the amount will satisfy any minimum deposit. A memo, tag or other destination field may also be required where the receiving service specifies one.
- Preserve account access. Keep the original email, two-factor authentication method, recovery codes and account identifier. Do not close the account or delete its payout records immediately after redirecting your miner.
- Configure the new pool separately. Enter the new pool’s address and worker settings only after you have documented the old account. This prevents a configuration mistake from being confused with a missing historical payout.
What to do after the switch
Wait through the normal settlement window
Check whether the old balance has reached its threshold and whether the next scheduled settlement has passed. For f2pool, the published daily cycle starts at 00:00 UTC and generally completes by 08:00 UTC for qualifying balances, with coin-specific exceptions. Other pools may use a different time zone or schedule.
Use the correct withdrawal path
If the amount is below the automatic minimum, open the old pool’s withdrawal page—not the new pool’s page—and see whether a manual or inactive-account option is available. Read the eligibility conditions before stopping and restarting mining, because some policies measure inactivity from the last accepted share and impose a request cooldown.

When a payout is issued, save its transaction ID and verify it on the relevant blockchain explorer or in the receiving wallet. An exchange may credit a transaction later than it appears on-chain, particularly when a memo, tag or internal confirmation process is required.

Contact the old pool with precise evidence
If the documented schedule has passed and no payout or explanation appears, contact the original operator. Include the account identifier, asset, balance, payout address, last mining time, relevant screenshots and any transaction IDs. Ask specifically whether the balance is below a threshold, subject to a hold, eligible for manual withdrawal or affected by account suspension.
How to compare pools before your next move
A low headline fee does not tell you how quickly a small balance becomes usable. Compare these operational terms for each coin you mine:

Save a copy of these terms when you join a pool, but recheck them before leaving. Operators can change thresholds, supported coins, networks and schedules.
Common questions
Will I lose my unpaid balance if I change pools?
Switching alone does not normally erase or transfer the balance. It remains associated with the old pool account and must be paid under that operator’s rules. Keep access and verify the current policy; no universal promise guarantees indefinite retention.
Can I withdraw mining rewards below the payout threshold?
Sometimes. A pool may offer manual withdrawal with a separate minimum, fee, inactivity requirement or request limit. f2pool documents such a route for qualifying coins, while also saying it is unavailable for some assets. Other pools may retain the amount or use an inactive-account schedule instead.
Does my old pool pay me after I stop mining?
It may, if the balance qualifies for automatic settlement or the pool has a manual or inactive-account process. Stopping mining does not itself create a payment; check the old account’s threshold, schedule and inactivity conditions.
What if I changed my wallet address just before switching?
Look for a security pause. f2pool says a wallet-address modification causes a three-day payout pause. Other operators can use different delays. Confirm the address, wait through the stated hold and contact support if the balance remains unresolved.
