TalkTalk customers can keep using their broadband, phone and other services as normal for now. BT acquired TalkTalk Telecommunications Limited and PlatformX Communications Limited out of administration on 5 October 2026, but TalkTalk and BT say they will remain separate while regulatory review proceeds. TalkTalk says existing contracts, prices, payment arrangements, equipment and support channels remain in place; customers do not need to take action because of the acquisition.
What should TalkTalk customers do now?
- Keep using your service. TalkTalk says broadband and phone service continue as normal. Ofcom says customers can continue using landline, broadband and pay TV during the transition, and BT says it does not anticipate an interruption.
- Do not make changes just because of the takeover. TalkTalk, Ofcom and the Government say customers do not need to take action.
- Keep your existing router and equipment. TalkTalk and BT say current equipment continues to work; BT says no replacement equipment is needed.
- Continue using your usual TalkTalk account, payment method and support channels. Existing online account and billing access, payment arrangements and support teams remain in place.
What changed on 5 October 2026?
BT announced that it had acquired TalkTalk Telecommunications Limited and PlatformX Communications Limited out of administration on 5 October 2026. TalkTalk says customer contracts transferred to TalkTalk Telecommunications Limited on that date, so the current customer-facing arrangement is that TalkTalk continues to provide and support your service.
BT reported that the acquired businesses served 1.5 million retail customers and 1 million wholesale customers. Those figures describe the scale of the acquisition, not an estimate of how an individual household’s bill or service will change. BT also estimated a total cash impact of approximately £400 million in FY27; that is a corporate transaction estimate, not a household charge or an announced customer price increase. Read BT’s announcement.
Will your contract or monthly price change?
TalkTalk says the acquisition itself does not change your existing contract terms or monthly price. BT says current contract, price and renewal arrangements remain the same. If you also have BT services, BT says those services and your TalkTalk services continue to be treated separately for customers.

Will TalkTalk change its name, move you to BT or send a new router?
No future migration, brand change, new contract, package move, price change, router replacement or service retirement has been announced in the current customer guidance. BT and TalkTalk say they will continue to operate separately while regulatory review proceeds. They say affected customers will be contacted with notice and support if changes are made. Keep using your equipment unless TalkTalk gives you a specific instruction through its usual channels. TalkTalk customer support.

Can you leave your contract because BT took over?
The acquisition alone does not create a new right to cancel without charge. TalkTalk says leaving remains subject to the terms and charges that already apply to your agreement. Ofcom advises checking whether you are still within your minimum contract period: switching before it ends could mean an early termination charge. If you are considering a switch, check your contract status and any charges first, then compare providers for availability at your address, price, contract length and the services you need. The acquisition was completed and announced by BT, while regulatory review was still pending in official material dated 5 October 2026. BT said the TalkTalk and BT businesses would operate separately and continue to compete while the review proceeds. On 5 October, the Secretary of State issued a Public Interest Intervention Notice asking the Competition and Markets Authority to report by 19 October 2026. The Government said customers should continue to receive service normally and would be contacted directly if a change required their attention. The timetable and any later customer arrangements may change; no definite integration plan or date has been announced in the customer guidance. Government notice on the public-interest intervention.
