Scentre Group announced the proposal in 2017, then said in December 2019 that it had deferred the expansion and would preserve it as a longer-term opportunity. The available information does not confirm a revival, new approval or construction start.
What is the current status of the Innaloo expansion?
The latest dated project decision established here is Scentre Group’s 6 December 2019 announcement that it had decided to defer the expansion of Westfield Stirling, the name used for the centre in that statement. Scentre Group CEO Peter Allen said: “As a result of this significant change to our Perth portfolio, as well as Booragoon’s future development opportunities, we have decided to defer the expansion of Westfield Stirling.” Scentre Group’s 2019 statement
Allen also said the group intended to retain ownership and “preserve the development opportunity in the longer term.” That describes a deferred opportunity, not a confirmed construction schedule. No later revival, approval or construction commencement is established here.
What was included in the 2017 proposal?
Scentre Group announced an approximately $600 million proposal in 2017 that would nearly double the centre’s size. Its proposed components were:

- New in manufacturer packaging.

- Robust materials.
- Original packaging.
- Scale Miniature for For Model Trains and Dioramas.
- David Jones and international mini-major retailers;
- 100 new stores;
- a lifestyle and entertainment precinct with restaurants; and
- a 14-screen Event Cinemas complex relocated from its then-existing Innaloo location.
These were features of the 2017 announcement, not confirmed details of a current scheme. The approximately $600 million figure is the value Scentre Group attached to that proposal in 2017; it is not a verified current project budget. Scentre Group’s 2017 proposal announcement
What is at Westfield Innaloo now?
Scentre Group’s centre profile, titled Westfield Innaloo, describes an operating shopping centre 9 kilometres north-west of Perth CBD and 4 kilometres from Scarborough Beach. The owner lists 151 retailers, 47,179 square metres of gross lettable area, 2,395 parking spaces and 8.7 million annual customer visits. The profile does not state a reporting year for these centre figures, so they should be read as owner-published profile statistics rather than dated independent counts. The same profile gives trade-area figures with a stated 2025 reference: Scentre Group estimates total retail spend of $7.8 billion across the total trade area and $3.7 billion in the main trade area. It estimates main trade area spend per capita at $21,765, compared with a Perth Metro average of $18,501. These are the owner’s estimates, not figures for the proposed expansion.
Does the Stephenson Avenue project mean the expansion is proceeding?
No. The Stephenson Avenue Extension is a separate transport project. The City of Stirling says it connects activity hubs including Westfield Innaloo and forms part of the broader Stirling City Centre plan. Its page, last updated 16 April 2026, says Phase One opened to traffic on 11 February 2022 and Phase Two was expected to be completed in mid-2026. Transport works do not establish that the shopping-centre expansion has restarted or received approval. City of Stirling: Stephenson Avenue Extension

A current statement from Scentre Group or a relevant planning authority record would be needed to establish that the project has been revived, redesigned or approved. Until then, the clearest account is that the 2017 proposal was deferred in 2019, with the development opportunity retained for the longer term.
