The founders pitched it on Shark Tank Season 9, asking for $100,000 for 5% of the company, but left without an investment. The app later drew attention and partnership activity, yet a June 2021 report described it failing to open, and later coverage said its app-store listings were gone or outdated.
What was HoopMaps?
HoopMaps was designed to help people find and organize local pickup basketball. Users could discover nearby games on a map, join runs, or create games of their own. Dominic Morris described the concept in a founder account published by Starter Story: Starter Story: HoopMaps.
What happened on Shark Tank?
Donte and Dominic Morris appeared on Shark Tank Season 9 seeking $100,000 in exchange for 5% equity. Episode recaps report that none of the Sharks invested. The pitch and outcome are summarized by Shark Tank Blog and SlashGear.
What did the founders do after the show?
Dominic Morris later said HoopMaps had surpassed 90,000 users across 11 countries outside the United States. That figure is his 2019 statement, not an independently audited count. In the same account, he said the company had received international media attention and partnered with the BIG3 professional basketball league.

The founder account also describes a shift beyond a self-serve app. Morris discussed HoopPass, an open-gym concept, and Curated Runs, a model built around facilitated, scheduled pickup sessions. Those descriptions document the founders’ historical plans and activity; they do not confirm that either service is operating now.
Is the HoopMaps app still available?
The available reporting points to an app that no longer worked reliably and is apparently inactive. In June 2021, a Shark Tank Blog author reported trying the app and seeing its logo for about 30 seconds before it closed. That is a dated observation, not a current test. Later SlashGear coverage described the app-store listings as disappeared or outdated.

These reports do not establish that the company was formally dissolved. Nor do the available sources reliably establish what either Morris brother is doing now. It is more accurate to describe HoopMaps as apparently inactive or defunct than to claim a verified legal closure or current founder status.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why did the concept change?
The founders’ historical accounts describe two different approaches to finding pickup basketball. HoopMaps centered on software that let players discover or create local games themselves. Curated Runs was described as a scheduled, facilitated experience. The difference is between a tool for open-ended local discovery and an organized in-person session; the available accounts do not show that either model remains active today.
