Keith Wasserman publicly asked for private firefighters to protect his Pacific Palisades home on January 8, 2025, as nearby houses burned. Six days later, Futurism reported that the home had been destroyed, citing online records examined by the New York Post. The reporting does not establish whether a private crew responded to Wasserman, whether he hired one, or what caused the home’s destruction.
What did Keith Wasserman ask for?
In a post reproduced by The Daily Dot on January 8, 2025, Wasserman asked whether anyone had access to private firefighters to protect his Pacific Palisades home. He wrote: “Does anyone have access to private firefighters to protect our home in Pacific Palisades? Need to act fast here. All neighbors houses burning. Will pay any amount. Thank you.”
The Daily Dot reported that the plea drew criticism online. Some reactions connected it to an earlier property-tax post and claims about tax avoidance. Those were commenters’ interpretations, not independently established findings about Wasserman’s taxes or motives.
What happened to the house?
On January 14, 2025, Futurism reported that Wasserman’s Pacific Palisades home had burned down, citing online records examined by the New York Post. That is secondary reporting: the underlying property record was not independently accessed in the reporting summarized here.

Futurism also reproduced a Facebook statement attributed to Wasserman in which he described the loss: “I feel like I lost a part of my soul losing our home that [my wife] spent so much time meticulously creating for our family.” He added: “I miss the Palisades so much. Feels surreal to be homeless after living in so much abundance and beauty.”
The sequence—his plea followed by the reported destruction—does not establish that the plea caused the fire, that a crew did or did not reach the property, or whether a different response would have changed the outcome.

Did Wasserman hire or receive private firefighters?
The available reporting documents his public request, but does not establish whether he hired a private crew, whether anyone responded, or whether firefighters reached his property. It also does not establish an amount offered or paid.
Private firefighting was present elsewhere during the Los Angeles emergency. The Los Angeles Times reported on January 12 that about a dozen private firefighters and water trucks were stationed at developer Rick Caruso’s Brentwood home. The crews said they had been hired to protect his property and the surrounding neighborhood. Firefighter Laron Whitfield told the Times of Caruso’s preparations: “He’s smart, he wants to be ready.” That reporting concerns Caruso’s property, not Wasserman’s.

What private fire protection can—and cannot—tell homeowners
The Los Angeles Times described private crews as working under different arrangements for governments, insurers, or individual clients, with rates depending on contracts. “Private firefighters” therefore does not describe one standardized service with a single price, scope, or guarantee.
Their presence during a wildfire also does not mean they replace public fire departments or can ensure that a particular home survives. The reporting on the Palisades fires provides no like-for-like service specifications, effectiveness data, or guaranteed outcomes that would support ranking providers or estimating what protection would cost for another homeowner.
