They were not awarded that money: a federal judge dismissed the amended complaint in June 2025, and the case ended after the plaintiffs did not file an amended complaint by the deadline. A later $407,451 award to Lively covered attorneys’ fees and costs tied to the dismissed defamation claim; it was not damages in either lawsuit.
What happened to the $400 million lawsuit?
Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, filed the suit in January 2025. It named Lively, Reynolds and others and included defamation and related claims. The $400 million was the amount they sought, not a judgment or payment. The Associated Press reported the filing and demand.

On June 9, 2025, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed the amended complaint. The ruling allowed a limited opportunity to amend certain claims, but Baldoni and Wayfarer did not file a revised complaint by the deadline. A final judgment followed in October 2025, ending the case. The reproduced court opinion explains the June ruling; the Los Angeles Times reported the final judgment.

The opinion addressed legal and pleading issues, including whether statements about Lively’s California Civil Rights Department complaint were protected by the fair-report privilege and whether the complaint adequately tied Lively to statements made by Reynolds or publicist Leslie Sloane. The court stated that “the fair report privilege extends to advance communication to [the media] of a complaint so long as the party intends in good faith to file it in a public official proceeding.” That describes a legal principle applied to the claims; it is not a finding that every disputed account was true.

- IT ENDS WITH US tells the empowering story of Lily Bloom. Grappling with a painful past, Lily embarks on a new life in Boston and opens her own flower shop. After falling in love with Ryle, Lily begins to see sides of him that remind her of her dangerous father. With the support of her friends and allies, Lily must find her own strength to break the pattern or the pattern will break her.
The complaint stemmed from a dispute that followed production of the 2024 film It Ends With Us. In December 2024, Lively made a California Civil Rights Department complaint alleging sexual harassment and retaliation during production. Those allegations and the parties’ competing accounts should not be treated as established facts merely because they appeared in legal filings.
How was this different from Lively’s separate lawsuit?
The two actions had different dispositions. Baldoni and Wayfarer’s countersuit ended after dismissal and a final judgment. Lively’s separate action over alleged conduct during production and alleged retaliation settled in May 2026, shortly before trial. The public report said the settlement’s financial terms were not announced.

Baldoni also filed a separate $250 million suit against The New York Times in 2025. That was a different case and was not part of the $400 million demand against Lively and Reynolds.
What does the $407,451 award mean?
On August 26, 2026, the court awarded Lively $407,451 in attorneys’ fees and costs related to the dismissed defamation claim. She had sought about $8 million, according to the Associated Press report on the fee ruling. The award is a fee-and-cost decision tied to the dismissed claim—not a damages judgment, the value of the May settlement, or a payment of the $400 million demand.
