Faiq Bolkiah was without a club as of 30 September 2026, after Ratchaburi FC released him in July. The “world’s richest footballer” label is tied to his Brunei royal-family connections, but claims about his personal fortune are estimates—not publicly confirmed financial disclosures.

Where is Faiq Bolkiah now?

VnExpress International reported on 30 September 2026 that Bolkiah was without a club. Ratchaburi FC had released him in July 2026, ending a three-year spell in which he made 18 appearances, according to the report. His next club was not known at that time. This is a dated status report, not confirmation of his situation after that date.

How did his football career develop?

Bolkiah came through youth setups in England before moving abroad for senior opportunities. VnExpress International traces his path from Southampton to Chelsea and Leicester City, then to Portugal’s CS Marítimo in 2020, Thailand’s Chonburi FC in 2021, and Ratchaburi in June 2023.

The September 2026 report says he did not make a first-team appearance in England and played eight matches for Marítimo’s youth and B teams. It also puts his Thai top-flight total at around 50 appearances across nearly five years. These are VnExpress’s figures; they have not been independently reconciled against official match records.

A March 2026 VnExpress profile says Bolkiah returned to the pitch for Ratchaburi after nearly a year out following a severe leg fracture in early 2024. That is historical context, not evidence of his current health.

Is Faiq Bolkiah really the world’s richest footballer?

There is no publicly confirmed figure for Bolkiah’s personal assets in the cited coverage. VnExpress International describes claims that his personal fortune exceeds US$20 billion as unconfirmed estimates based on his royal lineage. The label should not be read as proof that he personally earned, owns, or can access that amount.

The distinction matters because estimates of the wealth of Brunei’s sultan are sometimes blurred with claims about Bolkiah. VnExpress’s March 2026 profile cited a US$30 billion estimate for Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s fortune, attributing it to The Economic Times. That is an estimate about the Sultan, not a verified valuation of Faiq Bolkiah’s personal wealth.

In an AFC Quarterly interview published around 2016, when he was a Leicester City youth player, Bolkiah spoke about the pressure of his family name: “It makes it 20 times harder and it’s a big name to carry.” He said he wanted to be recognized for his ability on the field rather than his royal connections. Those comments reflect his perspective at the time; they do not verify any later wealth claim or establish his subsequent playing level.

What is known about his football salary?

VnExpress International’s March 2026 profile relayed a Daily Express estimate of about US$3,000 per month for Bolkiah’s football salary. It is a secondhand media estimate, not a verified disclosure from Bolkiah, his club, or a contract. It should not be treated as evidence of his personal net worth, which would also depend on assets, liabilities, and other income.
