The listings were removed after the company suspended its French marketplace, but legal proceedings continued. In the latest French government update located for this article, dated 20 March 2026, an appeals court declined to block the platform and ordered immediate age verification for pornographic products.
What did French authorities say they found?
On 1 November 2025, France’s consumer authority, the DGCCRF, said it had found the listings on SHEIN’s e-commerce site on 31 October. The authority said the descriptions and categorization left little doubt about the products’ child-pornographic character. It referred the matter to the public prosecutor, notified France’s audiovisual and digital communications regulator, ARCOM, and asked SHEIN to take appropriate measures.

The DGCCRF also said adult sex dolls and other pornographic material were accessible without effective filtering to protect minors or sensitive audiences. These were statements by the authority about what it found; they are not a final court judgment.
Did SHEIN remove the listings or shut down in France?
In a 7 November 2025 update, the French government said SHEIN had complied with a DGCCRF injunction by suspending its marketplace in France and removing illicit products. The government reported that the authority observed no illicit products for sale at that point. It also made clear that judicial proceedings were continuing.

This describes the marketplace, where third-party sellers list products, and should not be read as a finding that every part of SHEIN’s retail operation was shut down. Nor did the French court later order the entire platform blocked: the Paris Court of Appeal confirmed on 19 March 2026 that the lower court had refused that measure.
What happened in the French court proceedings?
The platform-blocking request
The French government’s 20 March 2026 account says the Court of Appeal declined to block SHEIN’s platform. The government said it had appealed the earlier decision. The outcome resolves that blocking request at the appeal stage; it does not mean that all legal proceedings ended.
Age verification and investigations
The appeal court ordered immediate age-verification measures for the sale of pornographic products. Separately, the government reported that judicial investigations were ongoing. Its November 2025 update said the Paris prosecutor had entrusted four investigations to the Office for Minors. These are procedural developments, not a ruling that SHEIN or an individual seller is criminally liable.

Yes. On 26 November 2025, the European Commission requested information about illegal goods on SHEIN, particularly childlike sex dolls and weapons, under the Digital Services Act (DSA). On 17 February 2026, the Commission announced a formal DSA investigation that includes the platform’s systems for limiting illegal products such as childlike sex dolls. That investigation is ongoing; its opening is not a finding that SHEIN violated the law.
A European Parliament resolution dated 26 November 2025 also addressed consumer protection and illegal products on e-commerce platforms. It recounted the French referral and said SHEIN appeared to have removed the dolls and announced a worldwide ban on sex dolls. That is Parliament’s account in a resolution, not an independent judicial determination of the company’s actions or legal responsibility.
What do the French penalties cited in this case mean?
The French authorities cited statutory maximum penalties, not sentences imposed on SHEIN. They said distributing child-pornographic representations through electronic communications may carry up to seven years’ imprisonment and a €100,000 fine. They also said failing to implement effective filtering to protect minors from pornographic material may carry up to three years’ imprisonment and a €75,000 fine. Whether either provision has been violated in this matter is for the legal process to determine.
Do the customs inspection figures refer to the sex dolls?
No. The French government reported that customs checked 200,000 parcels in an operation at Roissy–Charles de Gaulle Airport on 6 November 2025, and that eight in ten articles were non-compliant. The government’s examples included unauthorized cosmetics, dangerous toys and defective electrical appliances. Those figures cover a broad product-compliance operation and do not measure the number of sex-doll listings, parcels or affected consumers.
