What Emma Watson Has Said About Her Biggest Purchases

Emma Watson’s interviews identify a laptop, a Toyota Prius and a holiday with her father, but do not support a list of 10 extravagant purchases or a price ranking.

There is no reliable, attributable list of 10 ridiculously expensive things Emma Watson has bought. In interviews, Watson named a laptop, a Toyota Prius and a holiday with her father as notable early spending; she later said she had done nothing “decadent or mad” with her money. The available accounts do not give prices that would support a ranking.

What did Emma Watson buy with her Harry Potter money?

In a 2009 interview with Interview Magazine, Watson recalled buying a laptop, taking her father to Tuscany and getting herself a car. She identified the car as a Prius, saying, “I got my license last year, and I love the Prius, even if my friends say it’s ugly.” She described it as sensible and said she liked that it was good for the environment.

That account establishes a few personal spending examples, not a catalogue of luxury purchases. The interview does not specify the laptop model, the Prius model year or the cost of either purchase or the trip.

What did she call her most expensive spending?

A 2011 Glamour UK report said Watson identified a laptop and Toyota Prius as the most expensive things she had spent money on outside her education. The article attributed the account to reporters and cited Digital Spy. It also reported her saying, “I have way too much money to know what to do with it.” That remark does not establish the cost of any item or provide a ten-purchase list.

Were her London and New York homes purchases?

No. In a 2013 interview with British GQ, Watson said she rented a house in London and had rented in New York. Those homes should not be counted as things she bought.

GQ also quoted her saying, “I haven’t done anything decadent or mad with my money.” The interview mentioned an expensive coat and a Smythson Soho planner, but supplied no prices or detail establishing either as part of a ranked set of costly purchases.

Do her clothes and shoes prove she spent heavily?

No. In 2013, Watson told Radio Times, “I’ve got about eight pairs of shoes and that’s it.” ABC News reported the remark in describing her as having a low-bling life. Watson’s comments about Paris Hilton’s clothes were observations from filming The Bling Ring, not claims that she bought those clothes.

In a 2020 British Vogue interview, Watson discussed rewearing clothes, vintage fashion, and liking Christy Dawn dresses and jumpsuits. She also named Good On You and TRAID. These comments describe preferences and sustainability-related practices; they do not verify particular purchases from those brands.

Can any of her purchases be ranked by price?

Not from these accounts. The interviews and reports do not provide verified prices for the laptop, Prius, holiday, coat or planner, nor do they give enough detail to identify the exact laptop or car. Without prices, models and a documented set of purchases, calling any of them among Watson’s “most expensive” in a precise ranking would go beyond what the sources establish.

Rank #4
