Codan’s share-price outlook depends chiefly on whether its Communications and Metal Detection businesses can sustain profitable growth—and whether the market expects that growth already. Codan’s FY26 results showed strong growth in both segments, while its 29 September 2026 update pointed to especially strong near-term Communications demand and a solid start for Minelab. The company also flagged uncertainty about conflict-related demand beyond the first half of FY27 and emerging electronics supply constraints. These disclosures help explain what investors may watch; they do not identify the cause of any particular daily share-price move.
Why the two businesses matter to Codan’s outlook
Codan reports two main operating segments with distinct demand drivers. Communications includes DTC and Zetron, which provide solutions for military and public-safety applications. Metal Detection is principally Minelab, serving gold-detection and recreational markets. For investors, the key question is not simply whether sales are rising, but how broad and repeatable that demand is, how much profit it produces, and whether Codan can deliver orders on time.

Codan’s reported results describe operating performance, not a share-price forecast. A strong result can matter differently depending on what investors expected beforehand, how long they think the growth can last, and what valuation they are willing to pay. The company’s disclosures do not establish the market’s current consensus expectations, valuation multiple, or whether anticipated growth is already reflected in Codan’s share price.
Communications: strong demand, with visibility that varies by market
Communications combines defence and security demand across conflict and non-conflict markets. That mix matters because Codan said the conflict-region portion of demand is difficult to forecast beyond three months, while demand outside conflict regions is spread across more geographies and programs.

| Period or outlook | Codan’s reported figures and context |
|---|---|
| H1 FY26 | Revenue was $221.8 million, up 19%; segment profit was $58.3 million; the orderbook was $294 million at 31 December 2025, up 19% year over year. DTC unmanned-sector revenue was $73 million, up 68%. |
| H1 FY27 expectation, announced 29 September 2026 | Communications revenue of $400–410 million and a segment EBIT margin around 40%. Codan estimated conflict-region revenue would be about 50% of H1 FY27 Communications revenue, compared with about 20% in the prior corresponding period. It expected demand outside conflict regions to grow about 20% year over year. |
| FY27 target | Communications revenue growth of 30–40% compared with FY26. This is a target, not a reported result. |
In H1 FY26, about half of DTC’s unmanned-sector revenue related to operational defence applications in conflict zones; the rest reflected adoption in non-conflict defence and security programs in Asia, the United States and Europe. That split helps distinguish concentrated conflict-related demand from activity across other markets. Codan’s September estimate shows conflict-region business accounting for a larger share of expected H1 FY27 Communications revenue, even as it anticipated growth outside those regions.
Margins and demand duration need separate attention
Communications’ H1 FY26 segment margin was 26.3%. Codan attributed the slower margin improvement to Zetron’s challenging trading environment and the full-period contribution from Kägwerks, and targeted a 30% segment margin by the end of FY27. The approximately 40% margin in the September H1 FY27 estimate is a much higher near-term figure; it should not be treated as a forecast for H2 or as evidence that the same mix and margin will persist.

The company’s H1 FY27 outlook is therefore a snapshot of expected first-half trading, not assurance about the second half. Codan specifically said conflict-region demand was difficult to forecast beyond three months and that it was too early to determine whether H1 demand and margins would continue through H2.

Metal Detection: gold conditions, product launches and regional breadth
Minelab’s results are influenced by demand for gold-detection equipment as well as recreational buyers, product introductions and regional expansion. In H1 FY26, Metal Detection revenue was $168.0 million, up 46%, and segment profit was $76.2 million, up 86%. The segment margin rose to 45% from 36% in the prior corresponding period as gold-detector sales made up a larger share of revenue.

Minelab Africa generated approximately $95 million in H1 FY26 revenue, with Codan citing West African demand for gold-detection technology and favourable gold-price conditions. Rest of World revenue grew at a high-teens rate, supported by recreational-market demand, recent product introductions and expansion of Minelab’s direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform.
In its 29 September 2026 update, Codan described Minelab’s H1 FY27 start as solid. It cited demand for the recently launched GPZ 8000 and Gold Monster 2000 detectors, a favourable gold price and continued Rest of World expansion; the Minelab revenue run-rate was slightly above H2 FY26 levels. This is Codan’s explanation of trading conditions, not proof that gold prices mechanically determine detector sales. Product appeal, customer demand and regional mix also feature in the company’s account.

Group results, guidance and delivery constraints
Codan’s FY26 growth reflected strong organic performance and the full-year contribution from Kägwerks. The company reported the following full-year results in 2026:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →| FY26 measure | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Revenue | $875.0 million, up 30% |
| EBIT | $244.1 million, up 67% |
| NPAT | $175.2 million, up 69% |
| Annual dividend | 48.5 cents per share, fully franked |
Codan said EBIT and NPAT were slightly above the guidance it gave on 29 April 2026. The results and dividend are historical facts, not promises about future earnings or shareholder returns.

For H1 FY27, Codan expected group NPAT of at least $160 million, subject to final product mix and shipments. That estimate compares with H1 FY26 NPAT of $71.2 million and FY26 full-year NPAT of $175.2 million; it remains an expectation until reported results confirm it. Codan said order momentum in both Communications and Minelab was creating potential supply-chain constraints, which it was seeking to mitigate. If constraints affect production or shipments, strong demand may not translate into revenue and profit as quickly as expected.
How to judge whether growth may be durable
Codan’s disclosures suggest several useful checks for investors comparing the two segments and assessing the outlook:
- Demand breadth: Look at whether Communications growth extends beyond conflict-region orders and whether Minelab demand spans gold, recreational and specialist markets.
- Revenue visibility: For Communications, consider the orderbook and order intake alongside Codan’s stated limits on conflict-region visibility. For Minelab, the company has pointed to its current run-rate, new launches and regional sales.
- Profitability and mix: Rising sales do not guarantee the same margin. Codan’s H1 FY26 Metal Detection margin benefited from a larger gold-detector share, while its much higher Communications margin estimate applies to H1 FY27 and reflects that period’s conditions.
- Growth composition: Separate organic performance from contributions such as Kägwerks, and distinguish reported results from management targets and estimates.
- Execution capacity: Watch whether supply-chain constraints affect production, shipments or the conversion of orders into reported revenue.
These are ways to interpret Codan’s operating disclosures, not evidence that the share price must rise or fall. The company’s statements explain its results and outlook; they cannot establish what caused a specific market move or whether investors have already priced in the expectations.
