Marvell Technology makes semiconductors and related intellectual property for data infrastructure. Its products include custom chips, components that move data, Ethernet and switching products, network processors, and storage controllers. Customers incorporate them into data centers, networking equipment, storage systems, and some consumer electronics; Marvell is not primarily a consumer-device brand.

Marvell calls itself “a leading supplier of data infrastructure semiconductor solutions, spanning the data center core to network edge” in its FY2026 Form 10-K. In practical terms, its chips are components inside systems built and sold by other companies.
Custom ASICs: chips designed for a customer’s system
An application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is designed for a particular set of tasks rather than sold as a general-purpose processor for any buyer. Marvell works with customers on custom semiconductor designs for areas such as AI, data-center computing, networking, carrier infrastructure, storage, aerospace, and defense.
The company says its ASIC platform can combine technologies including high-speed SerDes (circuits that transmit and receive high-speed data), Arm-based compute, security, storage, silicon photonics, chiplets, and advanced packaging. Which elements a chip uses depends on the customer’s design; this is not one standard Marvell chip with every feature.

Interconnects: moving data between chips and systems
Data centers need components that move large amounts of information between processors, servers, racks, and facilities. Marvell’s interconnect portfolio includes digital signal processors (DSPs) for optical links, laser drivers, transimpedance amplifiers, silicon photonics, optical modules, active electrical cable DSPs, and PCIe retimers.
These products address different parts of the connection. Some help encode, amplify, or receive signals; others support optical or electrical links. Marvell lists technologies such as PAM, coherent and coherent-lite DSPs, co-packaged optics, and linear pluggable optics. Product choice depends on the system architecture and the link being built, rather than on a consumer shopping decision.

Ethernet and switching: connecting equipment and directing traffic
Marvell makes Ethernet controllers and network adapters, physical-layer transceivers, and switching chips. Controllers and adapters provide network connectivity; physical-layer products handle the signal interface; switches direct traffic among connected devices.
Its Prestera family serves enterprise, industrial, carrier, cloud, and AI networking uses. Teralynx is aimed at high-bandwidth switching in cloud data centers. These components are sold into larger systems, so their presence does not mean Marvell makes the complete switch or network appliance.

Processors and connectivity products
Marvell’s OCTEON processors and data processing units (DPUs) are designed for network-intensive equipment. Potential deployments include routers, switches, security appliances, wireless access points, base stations, storage arrays, and smart network interface controllers.
The company’s expanded portfolio also includes PCIe and CXL switching products. PCIe and CXL are technologies used to connect processors, memory, accelerators, and other components inside systems. Marvell’s official portfolio pages list Structera CXL and Alaska PCIe Gen 6 retimers among current portfolio examples; availability and product specifications can change, so consult Marvell’s product portfolio for current details.

Storage controllers
Marvell’s Bravera products include hard-disk-drive (HDD) and solid-state-drive (SSD) controllers. A controller helps a storage device communicate with the rest of a computer or data-center system. Marvell identifies applications including high-capacity enterprise and data-center drives, as well as broader storage products.

Marvell’s FY2026 Form 10-K reports two end-market categories: data center and communications and other. The filing says the company changed its reporting categories starting in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, combining enterprise networking, carrier infrastructure, consumer, and automotive/industrial into “communications and other.” These are financial-reporting groupings, not a claim that every product has only one possible use.

Data centers
Data-center applications in the filing include AI systems and servers, general-purpose servers, Ethernet switching, network-attached storage (NAS) and other storage systems, storage-area networks, and data-center interconnect. AI infrastructure is one source of demand for custom chips and electro-optical products.
Communications and other
This reported category includes enterprise networking and carrier infrastructure, as well as consumer products such as broadband gateways, gaming consoles, and PCs. It also includes selected industrial and government applications. A Marvell chip may therefore end up inside a product that consumers recognize, even though Marvell generally supplies the semiconductor rather than the finished device.
Automotive qualification
Marvell completed the sale of its automotive Ethernet business to Infineon Technologies AG on August 14, 2025, according to the FY2026 Form 10-K. The filing says the divestiture contributed to lower automotive Ethernet sales in fiscal 2026. Marvell’s broader application discussion may still mention industrial or automotive-adjacent areas, but the sold automotive Ethernet business should not be treated as a current Marvell product line.
What Marvell’s recent results say about its business
Marvell reported $8.2 billion in net revenue for fiscal 2026, 42% above fiscal 2025, in its FY2026 Form 10-K. The company attributed data-center growth to AI-related demand for custom products and electro-optics, and said its communications-and-other business recovered from an inventory correction. These are Marvell’s reported results and explanation, not an independent estimate of the semiconductor market or a forecast.

How to think about a Marvell chip
- Ask what job it performs: Does it compute, move data, switch traffic, process network functions, or control storage?
- Locate it in the system: It may sit inside a server, connect servers or data centers, or appear in carrier, enterprise, or consumer equipment.
- Distinguish custom from standard products: Some designs are tailored to a customer’s system; other portfolio components serve defined functions across products.
- Look for the finished-product maker: Marvell supplies semiconductor solutions that customers incorporate into their own systems and devices.
