Its revenue comes from server, storage and networking products; software, support and services; subscription and consumption-based offers; and customer financing and leasing. HPE is separate from HP Inc., the company more closely associated with personal computers and printers.
What Hewlett Packard Enterprise does
HPE supplies the technology organizations use to run computing workloads, store and manage data, connect users and devices, and operate infrastructure across data centers, cloud environments and the network edge. Its portfolio includes servers such as HPE ProLiant, high-performance computing systems, storage, networking equipment and software, hybrid-cloud infrastructure, and professional and advisory services. HPE’s FY2025 Form 10-K describes these offerings and the company’s reporting structure.
HPE sells to organizations rather than focusing on the consumer PC-and-printer market. It offers equipment that customers can operate themselves as well as managed or consumption-based ways to use infrastructure. The mix of product, service and delivery model depends on the customer’s requirements.
How HPE makes money
Servers, storage and networking equipment
HPE sells enterprise servers, storage systems and networking hardware. Products are a major revenue source: under the company’s FY2025 reporting, server products alone accounted for more than half of consolidated revenue. HPE reported $34.296 billion in consolidated net revenue for FY2025; the company’s fiscal year ends October 31. The FY2025 Form 10-K and HPE’s financial results provide the company-reported figures.

Software, support and services
HPE earns revenue from software and licenses, maintenance and technical support, training, and professional services connected to its infrastructure and networking portfolio. Some are packaged with equipment; others are sold separately or through subscription arrangements. Customers may also engage HPE for professional and advisory work related to their technology environments.
Subscriptions and usage-based offerings
HPE offers subscription and consumption-based arrangements alongside traditional equipment purchases and license-based options. Under a consumption model, customers pay according to the agreed usage or service arrangement rather than simply buying all infrastructure upfront. This gives customers different ways to acquire and operate technology, but it does not make all HPE revenue recurring.

HPE GreenLake
HPE GreenLake is the company’s umbrella platform and family of hybrid and consumption-based infrastructure offers. HPE describes it as supporting customers across public clouds, data centers, colocation facilities and the edge. In its FY2025 Form 10-K, HPE says: “The HPE GreenLake cloud is designed to deliver a seamless hybrid experience with true pay-per-use consumption and automated scalability.” That is HPE’s description of its own offering, not an independent assessment of its performance or value. Read the FY2025 Form 10-K.
Financing and leasing
HPE Financial Services provides financing and leasing, IT consumption and utility programs, and asset-management services. These offerings can support purchases of HPE or third-party hardware, software and services, as well as flexible consumption arrangements. Financing changes how a customer pays for technology; it is a separate part of HPE’s business from selling the equipment or services themselves.

HPE also reaches customers through channel partners. Partners may resell HPE products and services or build and deliver their own services around HPE technology. HPE Partner Ready Vantage has Build, Sell and Service tracks, and HPE describes partners working with its portfolio and GreenLake. This is a business-to-business partner ecosystem, not evidence of a public affiliate commission program. HPE’s partner page and Partner Ready Vantage information describe the program.

HPE’s different sales and payment models let organizations choose how much infrastructure to own, how to fund it, and whether to manage it themselves or obtain services. An upfront purchase or license may suit a customer that wants direct ownership and control; subscriptions or consumption arrangements may suit a customer seeking a different payment cadence or more flexible capacity. Managed services can shift some operating responsibilities to a provider.

There is no universally cheaper option based on HPE’s company-level descriptions. A customer’s total cost depends on factors such as workload and utilization, contract length, financing terms and the scope of included services. HPE’s materials describe the available approaches, but do not establish that one will be more economical for every organization.
HPE and HP Inc. are different companies
Hewlett Packard Enterprise should not be confused with HP Inc. HPE is the enterprise infrastructure and services business described here; HP Inc. is the separate company more closely associated with personal computers and printers. The similar names reflect their corporate history, not a single current company or shared revenue stream.
