From Wall Street to sports management
Pace began his financial career at Lehman Brothers, where he became a Managing Director. The available biographies do not give dates for his time there.
He then moved into sports management after entrepreneur Dave Checketts recruited him to lead Real Salt Lake as CEO and President. Burnley FC says Pace oversaw the club’s rise from the bottom of the standings to the 2009 MLS championship in two seasons. That is a club milestone attributed to his tenure, not an independently audited measure of his personal performance.
Advising and investing in sports
After Real Salt Lake, Pace worked with SCP Worldwide, advising team owners and leagues. Burnley FC says he oversaw football assets and helped with investments in other sports and entertainment properties; ALK Capital describes SCP Worldwide as an owner of sports, entertainment and media properties.

Returning to finance at Citi
In 2008, Pace returned to financial services as Head of Americas Prime Finance at Citi. He later became a Managing Director and the bank’s Global Head of Sales for Securities Services. Burnley FC describes the division he oversaw as “a multibillion-dollar division.” ALK Capital’s takeover announcement also identifies him as a former Global Head of Sales for Securities Services.
Founding ALK Capital and joining Burnley
Pace left Citi and founded ALK Capital with fellow investors in 2019, with the aim of acquiring a football club. In its takeover announcement, ALK characterized his experience as more than 20 years in financial services and over a decade in sports management; those are the company’s descriptions of his career.
ALK completed its acquisition of an 84% stake in Burnley on 31 December 2020, and Pace replaced Mike Garlick as chairman. He said the incoming ownership intended to build on the club’s work to become financially stable and established in the Premier League and to remain a cornerstone of its local community.
