Sky Bet and the English Football League support community work through two distinct initiatives: the Building Foundations Fund, which awards grants to charities linked to EFL clubs, and Every Minute Matters, a CPR-awareness campaign with the British Heart Foundation (BHF). The EFL reports that the fund backed more than 60 club charities in 2023/24; the CPR campaign pairs public training with a planned fan relay.
How the EFL’s community work is organised
EFL in the Community is the league’s charitable arm. It supports charities linked to all 72 EFL clubs, which use the connection people feel with their local club to engage them in community activities. The delivery is local: club charities run or support programmes, while league-wide partnerships and funding can help extend that work. EFL in the Community

How the Building Foundations Fund helps local communities
The Building Foundations Fund provides grants to club charities for community programmes and facilities. The EFL announced in November 2024 that Sky Bet had committed £6 million over six years to the fund. For 2023/24, the EFL reported that more than £800,000 had been awarded to more than 60 club charities. It also reported over 100 new weekly sessions and more than 7,500 additional participants associated with the funded work that season. These are EFL-reported figures, not an independent evaluation of individual outcomes. EFL announcement, 20 November 2024
The supported work spans health and wellbeing, education, employability, crime prevention, community football and improvements to local facilities. Two examples illustrate the range:

The 2024 announcement listed grants of £5,000 to £100,000 for the 2024/25 season. That is a historical range and does not establish that applications are currently open.
What Every Minute Matters does
Every Minute Matters is a separate partnership between Sky Bet, the EFL and the BHF focused on CPR awareness. In February 2025, the EFL said Sky Bet had committed up to £3 million to support BHF work through the campaign. The announcement invited fans to spend 15 minutes completing the BHF’s free online RevivR CPR training. EFL announcement, 10 February 2025

The same announcement described a planned relay involving fans from all 72 EFL clubs, covering 4,000 km over four weeks in 2025. It is a plan reported at the time, not evidence of the relay’s completion or final participation figures.
How the two initiatives differ
| Initiative | How it works | What the EFL has reported |
|---|---|---|
| Building Foundations Fund | Grants to club charities for community programmes and facilities. | For 2023/24, more than £800,000 awarded to more than 60 charities, alongside over 100 new weekly sessions and more than 7,500 additional participants, according to the EFL’s November 2024 announcement. |
| Every Minute Matters | CPR-awareness campaign with the BHF, including free online training and a planned fan relay. | In February 2025, the EFL reported Sky Bet’s commitment of up to £3 million and outlined a planned 4,000 km relay; the announcement did not provide completed-event results. |
Putting the EFL’s wider impact figures in context
The EFL’s community overview reports that clubs generated £1.42 billion in social value and engaged over 1.2 million participants in “last season.” It also gives separate 2023/24 comparison figures of £1.24 billion in social value and 1.10 million participants. These figures refer to different reporting periods; the overview’s “last season” should not be assigned a calendar year without its reporting date and methodology. Social-value estimates are not the same as independently verified outcomes for each person served. EFL in the Community overview
