What CBS Left Out of Trump’s 2025 ‘60 Minutes’ Interview—and What the Paramount Settlement Covered

CBS’s full transcript included a question about corruption and Trump’s Zhao pardon that Axios said was missing from both video versions. The $16 million Paramount settlement involved CBS’s editing of Kamala Harris’s 2024 interview.

CBS’s full transcript of President Donald Trump’s 2025 60 Minutes interview includes a question about the appearance of corruption after his pardon of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao. But Axios reported that the exchange was missing from both the television broadcast and the longer video CBS posted online. The Paramount settlement referenced in the headline concerned a different interview: Kamala Harris’s 2024 appearance.

What was in the transcript but missing from the videos?

CBS News anchor Norah O’Donnell interviewed Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, on October 31, 2025. CBS published the full transcript on November 2. Near the end of questions about Trump’s pardon of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, O’Donnell asked, “So not concerned about the appearance of corruption with this?”

Trump replied, “I’d rather not have you ask the question,” then continued by defending his willingness to answer and discussing the United States’ position in cryptocurrency. He said, “We’re number one in crypto in the whole world.” That ranking was Trump’s assertion in the interview, not an independently established statistic in the cited reporting. CBS’s transcript records the exchange; Axios reported that it did not appear in either video version.

How the transcript and video versions compare

Version Length reported Does it include the exchange?
Portions aired on television About 28 minutes, according to Axios’s 2025 report No, according to Axios
Extended video posted online 73 minutes, according to Axios’s 2025 report No, according to Axios
CBS full transcript Not stated in the cited sources Yes

The extended video was longer than the broadcast portions, but that did not make it identical to the full transcript. The transcript and videos are distinct records of the interview, and the transcript contains wording that Axios said viewers could not find in either video.

What did the Paramount settlement have to do with it?

The settlement was background to the story, not a settlement over this 2025 Trump interview. Paramount settled Trump’s lawsuit over CBS’s editing of Kamala Harris’s October 2024 interview. CBS News reported that the settlement was $16 million, allocated to Trump’s future presidential library and the plaintiffs’ fees and costs; it was not a direct payment to Trump or co-plaintiff Ronny Jackson. CBS also reported that the deal included no apology and provided for future transcripts of presidential-candidate interviews, subject to legal or national-security redactions. CBS News’s settlement report describes those terms.

Why did CBS leave the exchange out?

The cited reporting establishes that the exchange appeared in the transcript but not in either video; it does not establish why editors excluded it. Axios reported that CBS had not immediately responded to its request for comment. The available accounts do not establish that the Paramount settlement caused the omission or prove a particular editorial motive.

Contemporary reporting also discussed possible FCC scrutiny and differing views among commissioners and political figures. That discussion is not proof that a complaint was filed or that regulators reached a decision; the cited material does not establish a final regulatory outcome.
