A spokesperson for Bill Gates—not Gates speaking directly—called allegations described in emails attributed to Jeffrey Epstein “absolutely absurd and completely false,” according to The Verge. The report does not establish the allegations as true, and it says key details about the emails remain unclear.
What the report says was in the emails
The Verge reported on February 1, 2026, that emails attributed to Epstein contained allegations about Gates’s personal life. The article said Epstein may have been drafting the messages on behalf of someone identified as “Boris,” described as working at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The report presents the allegations as claims in emails; it does not independently establish that they are true.
Who issued the denial
According to The Verge, a spokesperson for Bill Gates gave Business Insider this statement:
“These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false. The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”

The spokesperson was not named in The Verge’s account. The statement’s description of Epstein’s motives is the spokesperson’s characterization, not an independently established finding. The report does not quote Gates personally making this response.
What remains uncertain
- The report says it was unclear who “Boris” was.
- It was also unclear whether the messages were ever sent; the account says Epstein alone appeared in the emails’ to/from fields.
- The Verge’s reporting does not authenticate the underlying files or resolve the truth of the allegations.
Background on Gates and Epstein
The Verge article says Gates had described his meetings with Epstein as connected to fundraising and philanthropic efforts, called the meetings a “huge mistake,” and denied associating with him outside those efforts. It also notes that Melinda French Gates had described the association as part of the context for her divorce filing. This background does not verify the claims in the emails.
