Chris Hemsworth’s highest reported movie paydays are about $20 million each for Thor: Love and Thunder and the Netflix sequel released as Extraction 2. The available reports also put his pay for Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame at $15 million apiece. These are reported figures, not a verified or complete record of his contracts.
Chris Hemsworth’s highest reported movie salaries
The figures below are nominal U.S. dollars as reported by the cited publications. The reports do not use a shared accounting definition for every deal, so the amounts should not be treated as directly comparable contract terms.

| Film or deal | Reported pay | Context and source |
|---|---|---|
| Extraction 2 (reported as an upcoming sequel) | About $20 million | Variety reported in 2022 that Netflix would pay Hemsworth this amount for the upcoming sequel, later released as Extraction 2. The report describes a streaming deal, not an audited public contract. Variety, 2022. |
| Thor: Love and Thunder | About $20 million | The Indian Express reported the figure in 2022, attributing it to Variety. The Indian Express, July 8, 2022. |
| Thor: Ragnarok | $15 million | Reported by The Indian Express in 2022. The Indian Express, July 8, 2022. |
| Avengers: Infinity War | $15 million | Reported by The Indian Express in 2022. The Indian Express, July 8, 2022. |
| Avengers: Endgame | $15 million | Reported by The Indian Express in 2022; Men’s Health separately repeated the figure circa 2020, citing The Hollywood Reporter. The Indian Express, July 8, 2022; Men’s Health, circa 2020. |
| Thor (2011) | $150,000 | The Indian Express reported this as Hemsworth’s initial salary for the film in 2022. The Indian Express, July 8, 2022. |
Why the reported salaries are not perfectly comparable
The streaming deal
Variety’s 2022 report characterizes the Extraction sequel payment as a Netflix fee. It notes that streaming offers can pay out the equivalent of backend participation up front. That can limit an actor’s additional upside if a film becomes a major hit.
Theatrical deals and backend participation
A theatrical film’s compensation may include profit participation that becomes payable only after the film reaches profitability. A fixed upfront streaming fee and a theatrical deal with contingent participation are different types of compensation; a reported headline figure alone does not reveal the full economics of either deal.

What these figures do—and do not—tell you
- They are publication-reported amounts, not publicly verified contract terms confirmed by Hemsworth or Marvel.
- They do not establish a salary for every Hemsworth film. The sources reviewed do not support a complete film-by-film ranking.
- Box-office gross is a film’s revenue measure, not an actor’s paycheck. Forbes’ 2019 ranking of Hemsworth films concerns worldwide box-office gross, not his salary for each movie. Forbes, 2019.
- Annual celebrity earnings estimates are not per-film salary figures. Men’s Health distinguishes its discussion of Hemsworth’s movie pay from Forbes annual earnings estimates. Men’s Health, circa 2020.
For context, The Indian Express quoted Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, speaking to Forbes in 2017 about casting Marvel characters: “It’s expensive but well worth it.” That comment concerns Marvel casting generally; it does not confirm Hemsworth’s individual pay.
