Alan Shearer did not say David Beckham had invested in Birmingham City. After the clubs’ 3–1 match in September 2024, Shearer praised the attention surrounding their owners and noted Beckham’s presence as a guest alongside Birmingham minority owner Tom Brady.
What did Alan Shearer say?
In remarks published by Goal on 18 September 2024 and attributed to an interview with Betfair, Shearer said the high-profile owners were determined to make a statement. He referred to Birmingham’s spending, Wrexham’s progress, and the worldwide visibility created by David Beckham sitting with Tom Brady while Rob McElhenney was also in Birmingham.
Goal reported Shearer’s words as: “Staying in the EFL, when you’ve got high profile owners who are determined to make a statement, and when you look at what Birmingham have spent, and where Wrexham have come from to where they are now, they’re both great stories. You’re getting David Beckham sitting next to Tom Brady, with Rob McElhenney also in Birmingham on the same night, and the pictures of the three of them have been beamed all over the world, so it’s great for the EFL.”

Did Beckham invest in Birmingham City?
The cited reports identify Beckham as a visitor to the match, not as a Birmingham City investor. They identify Tom Brady as the club’s minority owner. Shearer’s reference to spending concerns Birmingham and its owners; it should not be recast as a claim that Beckham supplied investment.
