PerthNow’s roundup was published on 27 June 2025, and its prices were stated to be correct only at publication. The 2025 offers are historical, not live deals: Dyson’s Australian EOFY page now says that sale has ended.
What did the 80% off headline actually mean?
The headline promoted a collection of retailer offers. In the roundup, the named brands had different advertised discounts: selected HP laptops were up to 50% off, selected Dyson products had dollar savings rather than an 80% sitewide discount, and Nike shoes and clothing were up to 40% off. The accessible article does not establish that any of those three brands offered 80% off across their ranges.

Higher maximum percentages appeared elsewhere in the wider roundup, including selected bedding, homewares and clearance offers. “Up to” describes the largest advertised reduction on eligible items; it does not tell you how many products qualified or whether a particular model, size or colour was included.
What the 2025 roundup advertised
The table records claims in the 27 June 2025 roundup, not current prices or availability. “Up to” figures were advertised maxima, not a typical saving across a retailer’s range.

| Retailer or brand | Offer reported in the 2025 roundup |
|---|---|
| HP | Selected laptops up to 50% off; advertised savings ranged from $200 to $930. |
| Dyson | Selected products with savings reported up to $550. The roundup also used a differing $600 figure in introductory copy, so the maximum is not consistent across the article. |
| Nike | Selected shoes and clothing up to 40% off. The article claimed more than 900 products were on sale; that count was not independently verified. |
| Emma Sleep | Mattresses up to 55% off. |
| Myer | Selected fashion and home products up to 50% off. |
| The Iconic | Spend-based discounts: 20% off at $60 and 25% off at $80, as reported in the article. |
| The Oodie | Up to 50% off sitewide, as advertised in the roundup. |
| Samsung | Discounts on Galaxy devices and selected televisions; no single maximum was specified in the cited summary. |
| LG | Selected products up to 30% off, plus a removal-service offer. |
| Trip.com | Selected travel bookings up to 50% off. |
| Samsonite | 40% off sitewide, as advertised in the roundup. |
| Nespresso | Selected machines up to 30% off. |
| Temple & Webster | Up to 50% off. |
| Breville | Up to $700 off selected products. |
| Canningvale | Up to 90% off sitewide, as advertised in the roundup. |
| Bed Bath N’ Table | Selected items up to 60% off. |
These are historical claims from PerthNow’s 2025 EOFY roundup. The article disclosed that Seven West Media may receive commission from purchases through its links. Its listed offers should not be read as independently verified price comparisons.
Specific prices were snapshots, not current bargains
The roundup included examples such as a KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer at Myer for $649, with a stated $230 saving; a Dyson Supersonic Nural at Myer for $499, with a stated $250 saving; and a Tefal Easy Fry Essential for $149, with a stated $120.95 saving. It also listed a Nutribullet 900W Mega Pack for $89, a De’Longhi Magnifica automatic coffee machine for $499 with a stated $500 saving, and several Nespresso models: Essenza Mini at $153.30, Essenza Mini with Aeroccino3 at $216.30, and Lattissima One at $363.30.
Those figures appeared in a story published on 27 June 2025; the original article expressly limited price accuracy to its publication time. They are not suitable as current price or saving claims without checking the exact product and retailer again. Dyson’s official Australian EOFY page now states that the sale has ended.
How to tell a meaningful discount from a marketing number
A sale label alone does not establish value. Work out what the comparison price represents before deciding whether the saving matters:

- Discount from RRP: The reduction is measured against a recommended price, which may differ from the price shoppers recently paid.
- Saving against a former price: Check how long that price applied and whether another retailer regularly sells the same model for less.
- Temporary sale price: Compare the exact item across sellers, including delivery charges.
- Coupon or checkout code: Check eligibility, minimum spend, expiry, exclusions and whether the code can be combined with another offer.
- Bundle or gift: Value an accessory or gift by whether you would buy it separately, not by the seller’s stated bundle value.
- Clearance: Check whether the item is discontinued, refurbished, open-box or sold by a marketplace vendor, and establish who handles warranty and returns.
Before buying, search the exact model number, compare authorised sellers, check available stock and variants, read delivery and return terms, and keep the receipt. A large maximum discount may apply to only a small part of a range.
What to check on an HP laptop
Two laptops with similar names can have materially different components. Compare the full model number and configuration, not just the product family or discount percentage.
- Processor: Identify the processor model and generation, then consider whether it suits your workload.
- Memory and storage: Check RAM capacity, SSD size and whether either can be upgraded. A low price can be less attractive if the machine has limited memory or no practical upgrade path.
- Screen: Confirm resolution, refresh rate and panel type, especially if you will work with text, photos or video for long periods.
- Portability and connections: Check weight, battery expectations, and the USB, HDMI and charging ports you need.
- Software and support: Confirm the Windows edition, warranty provider, return policy and whether the listing is sold directly by HP or a third party.
Match the specification to the job: basic office work and study do not require the same hardware as creative work or gaming. A claimed saving against RRP cannot make an unsuitable configuration a good purchase.
What to check on Dyson products
Vacuums
Compare the specific model, included heads and accessories, and runtime in the power mode you expect to use. Suction figures can use different measurement conventions, so avoid comparing headline numbers without checking how they were measured. Check whether a replacement battery is available and what it costs, whether the machine is new or refurbished, and who provides the warranty, shipping and returns.

- Lightweight for quick, versatile cordless cleaning.
- Up to 40 minutes of fade-free Dyson power.¹
- Power trigger helps maximize energy efficiency, only using power where you need it.
- Choose between two cleaning modes for the right power where you need it.
- Motorbar cleaner head deep cleans all floor types. De-tangles wrapped long hair and pet hair as you clean.
Hair tools
Airwrap, Airstrait and Supersonic serve different styling purposes. Compare the included attachments and the Australian model and voltage. A bonus attachment may be useful, but it is not the same as a cash discount; compare the bundle with the price of the tool on its own.
For current promotions, Dyson directs shoppers to its Australian deals page. The EOFY promotion itself is marked ended, so any other price or promotion should be checked on the product page at the time of purchase.
What to check on Nike sale items
Nike’s Australian sale page currently advertises up to 40% off selected sale styles; that current offer does not validate the products or prices listed in the 2025 roundup. Check whether the item is in the sale section or needs a promotional code, whether the price is member-only, and which sizes and colours remain. Confirm the sale-item return or exchange conditions and delivery charges before treating the displayed reduction as a saving.

Australia’s financial year ends on 30 June. Retailers commonly start EOFY promotions in late May or June, and some clearance activity may continue into early July. Offers do not all begin or end on the same date, and the calendar label does not guarantee the lowest price.

Black Friday, Boxing Day and end-of-season clearance can provide alternatives, but there is no universal best event. Technology can face strong Black Friday competition; furniture and appliances may be discounted around EOFY, Boxing Day or stock clearances; fashion markdowns often track seasons; and Dyson runs promotions through its own deals channels at other times. If you do not need the product urgently, compare the exact model’s price over time rather than assuming a future sale will be better.
Consumer rights and work-related purchases
Check the seller’s sale-item policy, but do not assume that an item being marked “sale” removes your rights under Australian Consumer Law. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission explains consumer guarantees and when they apply in its consumer rights and guarantees guidance.
A laptop or office product is not automatically tax-deductible because it is bought during EOFY. Any claim depends on current Australian Taxation Office rules and the item’s work and private use; keep the receipt and records, and get professional advice if the amount is material.
