The West Central Railway Apprentice 2024 application window closed at 11:59 p.m. on 4 September 2024. The form is no longer open. The notice announced 3,317 apprentice training slots—not permanent railway jobs—and completion of training did not guarantee employment or absorption.
If you are looking for a current opportunity, check the official West Central Railway notice for its separate 2025–26 intake. Its terms and dates do not apply to the 2024 recruitment.
What the 2024 announcement meant
Railway Recruitment Cell, West Central Railway issued Notification No. 01/2024 on 5 August 2024 for Act Apprentice training in the 2024–25 year. It advertised 3,317 slots across divisions and units. The notice described unit allocations as provisional, so they could change before the final list.
| Division or unit | Notified training slots |
|---|---|
| Jabalpur Division | 1,262 |
| Bhopal Division | 824 |
| Kota Division | 832 |
| CRWS Bhopal | 175 |
| WRS Kota | 196 |
| HQ/Jabalpur | 28 |
These figures are from the official 2024 notification. The headline’s “posts” was recruitment shorthand: the opportunity was apprenticeship training, not appointment to a permanent railway position.

Who was eligible for the 2024 intake?
Age limit
Age was calculated as of 5 August 2024. Applicants had to have completed 15 years and not yet completed 24 years on that date. The notice provided age relaxations of five years for SC/ST applicants and three years for OBC applicants. It also specified relaxations for PwBD candidates—10 years, with larger specified relaxations for SC/ST and OBC candidates—and for eligible ex-servicemen. Applicants needed the required category documents at verification; the notice said an OBC certificate could not be more than one year old from the 4 September 2024 closing date.
Education and trade certificate
For trades generally, applicants needed to have passed Class 10 or an equivalent examination with at least 50% aggregate marks and hold an NCVT/SCVT National Trade Certificate in the notified trade. Applicants awaiting examination results were not eligible. Engineering graduates and diploma holders were excluded from this notification because they were covered under a separate apprenticeship scheme.
Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology & Radiology) had a distinct academic requirement: Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, as well as the relevant trade certificate. Refer to the official notice for the specific trade and documentation conditions.
How selection worked
The notice described merit lists by trade, division or unit, and community. Merit was based on the average of marks in Class 10 (or equivalent) and the ITI/trade examination, followed by document verification. It did not specify a written competitive entrance examination.

For a tie, the older candidate received preference. If dates of birth were also the same, preference went to the candidate who had passed matriculation earlier.
Application dates, fees and documents
Applications were accepted online from 5 August through 11:59 p.m. on 4 September 2024. The fees below applied to that expired intake only; they are not guidance for a later recruitment.
| Applicant group | 2024 application and processing fee |
|---|---|
| Most applicants | Rs. 141 total: Rs. 100 application fee plus Rs. 41 processing fee |
| SC/ST, PwBD and women applicants | Rs. 41 processing fee only |
The notice said that non-payment resulted in rejection. It instructed applicants to prepare scanned photograph and signature files and relevant academic, ITI and category or disability documents. Applicants were also told to ensure their name, parent’s name and date of birth matched the matriculation certificate, retain a printout of the application, and keep their email address and mobile number active.

The selected candidates were to receive a stipend during training under applicable rules, and they had to arrange their own accommodation because the notice said hostel facilities were not available. The training agreement made the employment terms explicit: “It is not obligatory on the part of employer to offer any employment to the passed out trade apprentice on completion of the period of Apprenticeship Training in his establishment nor shall it be obligatory on the part of the Apprentice to accept an employment under the employer.” Completing the apprenticeship therefore created no right to railway employment or absorption.
