Re:

Were 600,000 Trump Mobile Phones Sold? The Claim Is Unverified

The claim that Trump Mobile sold 600,000 T1 phones is unverified. The company’s $100 deposit was not a completed sale, and later shipping news does not establish the number.

Verdict: unproven. There is no reliable public evidence that Trump Mobile sold 600,000 T1 phones or that 600,000 verified customers paid deposits. The viral figure is not backed by a disclosed company total, audited records, verified payment data or shipping records. And a $100 deposit toward the proposed phone was not the same as buying a completed device.

What does the 600,000 claim mean?

Several versions circulated online: that 600,000 phones were sold, nearly 600,000 people preordered the T1, 590,000 people paid $100 deposits, or Trump Mobile collected about $60 million. Those are different claims, and the evidence does not establish any of them as a verified company figure.

Coverage tracing the number points to social-media posts and later repetition, rather than a documented announcement from Trump Mobile. The Verge’s reporting, summarized by Snopes, found that company executives did not confirm the figure. Neither a social-media post nor repetition by other outlets verifies how many people paid, what they paid for, or whether any devices were delivered. The Markets Cafe’s account of the claim’s circulation and Snopes’ summary of the fact-check describe the lack of confirmation.

What did customers pay for?

Trump Mobile advertised the T1 at $499 and requested a $100 deposit toward it. The product page described a gold-colored Android phone and originally anticipated a 2025 launch. Its listed features—including Android 15, a 6.8-inch-class AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 50-megapixel main camera, 5,000 mAh battery, 256 GB storage, 12 GB RAM and a headphone jack—were advertised specifications, not independent performance tests or proof of mass production. See the T1 product page and Associated Press coverage of the launch.

In terms updated April 6, 2026, Trump Mobile says a deposit is not a purchase, does not mean the company accepted an order, does not create a sales contract and does not reserve a particular phone. It also says the deposit does not guarantee production, availability, price, specifications, timing or delivery. The terms allow changes to features and configurations before final sale. A binding sale, under those terms, would require the device to be offered, the customer to complete checkout and pay in full, and Trump Mobile to accept that payment. The company’s deposit terms are therefore more precise than the informal word “preorder” used in some online claims.

Why deposits, orders and sales are not interchangeable

  • Signup or lead: Someone expressed interest; that does not show that money changed hands.
  • Deposit: A customer paid an amount toward a possible future purchase. A deposit count would not by itself identify unique customers, completed purchases or delivered phones.
  • Accepted order: A company accepted a customer’s order under its sales process. Trump Mobile’s cited deposit terms say the deposit alone is not an accepted order.
  • Completed sale: The customer paid the purchase price under an accepted transaction. The $100 deposit is not evidence that the advertised $499 price was paid.
  • Delivered phone: A unit was shipped or received. A deposit total would not establish manufacturing or shipment volume.

The arithmetic does not fix the evidence gap: 600,000 deposits of $100 would equal $60 million, and 590,000 would equal $59 million. Those are hypothetical totals based on unverified deposit counts—not confirmed revenue, phone sales or money retained by the company. A deposit count, if one were established, could also differ from the number of people because one person might make more than one deposit, and deposits may be canceled or refunded.

Did the Associated Press confirm 600,000 buyers?

No. The AP coverage cited in online discussions reports on the phone’s launch, deposits, delays and manufacturing claims; it does not establish a 600,000-sales or deposit total. Treating an article about the phone or its deposits as AP confirmation of that number goes beyond what the cited reporting says. See the AP’s report on delays and changing manufacturing language and additional coverage.

What refund rights do the terms describe?

The April 6, 2026 terms say a customer may request a full refund before completing a purchase. They also say Trump Mobile will issue a full refund if it cancels or discontinues the device before sale; for a canceled, delayed or unreleased device, the terms identify a deposit refund, subject to applicable law, as the exclusive remedy. These are the company’s stated terms, not independent proof that every individual refund request was processed in practice.

If you paid a deposit, keep the original receipt, confirmation, applicable terms and any support correspondence. If you want your money back, request a refund through Trump Mobile support and save the request and response. If the refund is not processed, contact your card issuer promptly to ask about its dispute process and deadlines; those rules vary, and a dispute is not guaranteed to succeed. The company’s terms of use provide additional general terms.

What happened to the phone after the planned 2025 launch?

The T1 was announced in June 2025 with an anticipated later-that-year release. Delays followed, and AP reported changes in how the manufacturing claims were presented. In May 2026, Reuters reported that Trump Mobile said U.S.-assembled T1 phones had begun shipping after the delay. That later announcement is relevant to whether some fulfillment began; it does not verify how many deposits were taken, how many customers placed them, or whether 600,000 phones were sold. Reuters’ May 13, 2026 report describes the shipping announcement.

What evidence would verify a figure this large?

A reliable count would need a traceable basis, such as a company statement with a defined metric and date, financial or court records, documented payment-processing totals, independent fulfillment data, or reporting that identifies and substantiates its underlying source. The available reporting does not supply that evidence. It also does not prove that the figure is impossible or that no one paid a deposit; it means the specific 600,000 claim remains unsupported in public evidence.

The corporate relationship should also be described carefully: Trump Mobile’s terms say the phone and services are operated by T1 Mobile LLC and that the Trump name is used under a limited license. That does not establish that the Trump Organization designed or manufactured the phone. The terms identify Smart Gadgets Global as the stated manufacturer in the company’s April 2026 warranty; see the warranty page.
