Wendy’s Dynamic Pricing: Will Prices Rise During Busy Hours?

Wendy’s rejected peak-demand price hikes after its CEO mentioned possible dynamic-pricing tests. Later company releases do not confirm whether a test occurred.

No—Wendy’s said it would not raise prices when demand is highest. The company’s 2024 clarification came after CEO Kirk Tanner said Wendy’s could begin testing digital-menu features, including “dynamic pricing,” as early as 2025. That possible test was not an announcement of automatic peak-hour price hikes, and official company releases through August 2026 do not confirm whether any dynamic-pricing test took place.

What Wendy’s announced—and what it didn’t

On an investor call in February 2024, Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner described a possible test of enhanced digital-menu features. Tanner said: “Beginning as early as 2025, we will begin testing more enhanced features like dynamic pricing and daypart offerings, along with AI-enabled menu changes and suggestive selling.” The wording set out a possible start window; it did not establish that the feature was already operating or guarantee that a test would begin in 2025.

After the comments were described as surge pricing, Wendy’s told the Associated Press: “Wendy’s will not implement surge pricing, which is the practice of raising prices when demand is highest. We didn’t use that phrase, nor do we plan to implement that practice.” The company said digital menu boards “could allow us to change the menu offerings at different times of day and offer discounts and value offers to our customers more easily, particularly in the slower times of day.” Associated Press coverage of the statement and investor-call remarks.

Dynamic pricing versus surge pricing

These terms can describe different pricing approaches. In Wendy’s 2024 clarification, surge pricing meant raising prices when demand is highest; the company explicitly said it would not implement that practice. Tanner’s broader phrase “dynamic pricing” appeared alongside daypart offerings and other digital-menu features. Wendy’s described changing menu offerings by time of day and making discounts or value offers easier, especially during slower periods.

  • Physical gift cards are delivered active via mail.
  • This item is not eligible for refund, resale, or return.

That distinction matters for customers: the company’s clarification rejected the specific scenario of charging more at the busiest times. It did not, by itself, establish the details of a particular customer-facing pricing system, such as which prices or offers might change, or whether an actual test later occurred.

Did Wendy’s test dynamic pricing?

The official company materials available through August 2026 do not verify that a dynamic-pricing test happened. They also do not prove that no limited or unreported test took place. The accurate status is therefore unresolved—not confirmed as launched and not confirmed as abandoned.

Does the Biggie Deals menu mean prices change when it’s busy?

No. The January 2026 announcement of Biggie Deals at $4, $6, and $8 is evidence of those advertised price points, not evidence that Wendy’s uses dynamic pricing or changes prices according to customer demand. The announcement does not connect the menu to the proposed digital-pricing test.
