A defensible ranking of the 96th Oscars’ Best Actor nominees by net worth does not exist in any verifiable form. The Academy’s official record confirms who the five nominees were and who won. It does not report their personal wealth, and no comparable, dated, methodology-stated net worth figures for all five men surfaced in the sources reviewed for this article. This piece sets out who the nominees were, what the official record and Associated Press reporting actually establish, and how to judge any net worth estimate you come across.
The five nominees and the result
The 96th Academy Awards were held on March 10, 2024, and honored films released in 2023. The five nominees in the Actor in a Leading Role category, the Academy’s name for Best Actor, were:

Cillian Murphy won the category. Neither Cooper nor Giamatti had won as of AP’s report, and the table reflects that AP snapshot rather than any later career change.
What the official record and AP reporting establish

- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences lists the five nominees above for the 96th ceremony, and Murphy as the winner.
- AP reported that three of the five nominees, Domingo, Wright, and Murphy, were first-time Oscar nominees.
- AP’s January 2024 reporting put Cooper’s total at 12 Academy Award nominations across categories at that time.
Those are career and awards facts. None of them says anything about how much money any of these men has.
Why a net worth ranking cannot be verified
Net worth is assets minus liabilities, and it changes with property values, investment returns, debts, business interests, and divorce or estate arrangements. Private individuals are not required to publish a balance sheet, so a net worth number is always someone’s estimate of a private picture.

Celebrity net worth figures are typically assembled from press interviews, reported property purchases, contract values, and industry knowledge. Those inputs rarely disclose the underlying records, and the publishers that produce them rarely explain their method. The result is that two outlets can publish different figures for the same person in the same year, and neither figure can be checked against a public source. Ranking five people by numbers of that kind would sort publishers’ guesses, not facts about the men.
The reasoning matters for how you read a ranking headline. A ranking is only as reliable as the weakest estimate in it, and a list covering all five nominees needs five estimates that were produced on comparable terms. No such set was found for this article.

What does not count as net worth
- Salaries or per-film fees. A reported fee is income for one project, not a stock of wealth. It says nothing about spending, taxes, debts, or savings.
- Box office totals. A film’s gross belongs to its distributor and backers, not to the actors in it.
- A film’s budget. Production cost is a spending figure for the production company and financiers.
- Oscar history. Nominations and wins measure professional recognition, not savings or property.
How to evaluate a net worth estimate
If you do encounter a net worth figure for one of these men, check it against the following points before treating it as informative:
- Publisher and date. Note who published the figure and when. A number from one year describes that year, not today.
- Stated method. Look for a description of what was counted, such as property, investments, or business equity. If none is given, the figure is unexplained.
- Range or point estimate. A single precise number implies more certainty than an estimate can carry.
- Consistency across the set. Compare whether every person in a ranking was assessed with the same inputs and the same date. If not, the order between them is not meaningful.
- Corroboration. Check whether any primary disclosure, such as a company filing or a court record that is publicly available, supports the figure. Most celebrity estimates will have no such support.
A figure that fails several of these checks should be read as entertainment, not as information about the person’s finances.

The Academy’s voting process, for context
The Academy’s January 23, 2024 nominations announcement described the process in its own words: “Academy members from each of the 18 branches vote to determine the nominees in their respective categories – actors nominate actors, film editors nominate film editors, etc.” That means the Best Actor shortlist is set by the actors’ branch, not by the wider membership.
The Academy also reported that ballots were submitted from 93 countries, a record at the time. That figure describes Academy participation across all categories, not Best Actor voting specifically.

Where the wealth question came from
The title of this article matches a March 14, 2024 video from TheRichest, which described the premise as uncovering the wealth behind the year’s Best Actor nominees and named Colman Domingo and Bradley Cooper in its description. The video’s framing shows the search interest behind the question. It is not independent verification of any net worth value, and it should be read as entertainment content.
