When did WBJS 2022 registration open and close?
The Public Service Commission, West Bengal (WBPSC), listed applications from 10 January through 31 January 2023. Scroll reported that applications closed at 3:00 PM on 31 January. These dates belong to the 2022 examination cycle; registration is no longer open. See the WBPSC notice listing and the contemporaneous Scroll report.
How many vacancies were announced?
WBPSC advertised 29 vacancies (12 clear and 17 anticipated) — Public Service Commission, West Bengal, 2022. The vacancy count appears in Advertisement No. 19/2022.
What were the eligibility requirements?
The official advertisement set out these core conditions for that recruitment cycle:

- A law degree from a university or institution recognized by the state or central government.
- Enrollment as an advocate on the roll of a State or Union Territory Bar Council as of the advertisement date.
- The ability to read, write and speak Bengali, except for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali.
- Meeting the nationality condition stated in the advertisement.
These are historical requirements from Advertisement No. 19/2022, not guidance for a later WBJS recruitment cycle. Candidates checking a future examination should rely on that cycle’s official notice.
What was the selection process?
WBPSC’s advertisement described three stages:
- Preliminary Examination: multiple-choice questions.
- Final Examination: conventional written examination.
- Personality Test.
The preliminary examination announcement was subsequently listed by WBPSC on 16 March 2023, confirming that the cycle progressed beyond its application phase. The archived notice listing is available on the WBPSC website.

What exam schedule and fee were reported?
Scroll’s 30 December 2022 report said the preliminary examination was expected in March 2023 and the final written examination in May 2023 or thereabout, followed by a personality test in Kolkata. These were projected dates reported at the time, not dates to use for a current application or confirmation of the eventual schedule.
Scroll reported an application fee of Rs 210, with exemptions for SC/ST candidates from West Bengal and PwBD candidates with a physical disability of 40% or above. The exact conditions and exemptions are governed by the official archived WBPSC advertisement.
