Some Galaxy S26 Ultra buyers reportedly received partial refunds if they agreed to keep their phones, including one widely reported $250 offer. But Samsung has not publicly confirmed a company-wide retention-refund program, and a later email reportedly said it could not offer compensation on Galaxy S26 orders. The $250 was not a guaranteed benefit.
What was the reported $250 offer?
The claim began with a customer-shared Samsung support conversation about returning a Galaxy S26 Ultra. According to SamMobile and PiunikaWeb, a representative allegedly offered the customer a $250 refund or discount in exchange for keeping the phone. That describes a partial refund tied to abandoning the return—not a separate rebate check or recurring payment. Samsung did not announce the offer in a press release or publish terms for it.
The account is evidence that an offer was reportedly made in one support interaction, not proof that Samsung authorized a standard program available to other buyers.
Other buyers reported different offers—or none
Other customers described smaller amounts, including $38, $45, $50, $59, $78, $100 and $137. One customer reportedly accepted $52.20, said to equal 10% of that buyer’s out-of-pocket cost. These are anecdotal reports, not an official refund schedule; some customers said they were simply given a return label. NDTV Profit covered the $250 and 10% claims.

The uneven amounts and outcomes could reflect agent discretion, account-specific rules, regional differences or inconsistent support handling. Samsung has not confirmed an explanation, and the reports do not establish how many customers received offers or who qualified.
Did Samsung confirm a general retention program?
No public confirmation of a universal Samsung retention-refund program appears in the cited company materials. Samsung’s U.S. offers page and U.S. launch announcement describe purchase promotions, not a general payment for keeping a phone after starting a return.

There is also a reported follow-up email in which Samsung told a customer it was “unable to offer any compensation on Galaxy S26 device orders,” according to SamMobile. That reported denial does not prove no representative ever made an offer; it does mean buyers should not treat the $250 as an entitlement or dependable policy.
- Published policy: Public terms a customer can review before purchase or return.
- Individual support offer: A reported exception made in a particular conversation.
- Unpublished repeatable workflow: Possible, but not verified by Samsung.
- Viral claim: The broader idea that Samsung generally pays S26 Ultra owners not to return their phones; the evidence does not establish this.
How returns and trade-ins affect the decision
A possible retention offer should not replace the return process or make a customer miss the applicable deadline. Samsung’s U.S. trade-in FAQ warns that returning a new Samsung device after sending in an old one can mean losing the trade-in credit deducted from the purchase price. Samsung’s trade-in terms also say that if the trade-in device is returned to the customer, Samsung may charge the customer for the trade-in value previously credited.

A phone return and a trade-in reversal are separate matters. The exact consequences depend on the transaction and applicable terms, so review the terms for the purchase rather than assuming the old device or its value will be restored automatically.
Before agreeing to keep the phone
- Ask for written confirmation of the exact amount and whether it is a refund, Samsung Credit, coupon or account adjustment.
- Confirm when and how the value will be applied, and whether keeping accessories or meeting other conditions is required.
- Ask what happens to any trade-in and whether accepting the offer affects other remedies.
- Keep screenshots, chat transcripts, case numbers and emails, and independently confirm the return deadline.
- Do not send back, sell or otherwise give up control of a trade-in device until its status and the offer terms are clear.
For the reported support route, PiunikaWeb described customers going through the Samsung order page and contacting support about return options. The outcome is uncertain: the offer may not be available, another representative may give a different answer, and an undocumented promise may never be credited. Contact support before the deadline, but do not let an unconfirmed offer put the normal return option at risk.

How this differs from Samsung’s launch promotions
Samsung’s U.S. launch promotions were purchase incentives, not payments to reverse an intended return. The company’s published materials listed trade-in credits, accessory or bundle offers, and a limited-time $150 Samsung Credit for qualifying purchases without a trade-in during specified March–April 2026 promotional periods. The terms said discounts or promotional benefits could be forfeited if the qualifying purchase was returned or canceled. Those launch windows had passed by August 18, 2026, and do not establish a current offer. See Samsung’s offers page and launch announcement.
Samsung’s Galaxy Forever program in India is different again: eligible customers can use an S26 Ultra or S26+ for a year while paying half the device cost, then choose an assured buyback or retain-and-pay option. It is a formal ownership and buyback model in India—not an immediate refund for a U.S. buyer trying to return a phone.

Do display complaints explain the offers?
Some reports and discussions connected S26 Ultra return concerns with display brightness, viewing comfort or the Privacy Display feature. But the available reports do not show that Samsung made retention offers because of a confirmed display defect, recall or broad product problem. The offers do not prove Samsung acknowledged a defect. For context, see the Techlusive summary and Samsung Members discussion.
How to judge an offer against returning the phone
Compare the confirmed value of the offer with the actual cost and consequences of keeping the device. A $250 refund is not automatically a better deal than returning the phone, and its value depends on what the customer paid and what benefits would be lost.
- Calculate the net amount paid after trade-in credits and other discounts, and verify any possible reversal.
- Check whether a returned purchase would forfeit accessory credits, bundled products or other promotions.
- Compare the offer with the price of the same storage configuration elsewhere, using current prices and that seller’s return terms.
- Consider whether the problem is one a refund can solve. A price adjustment does not fix dissatisfaction with the display, camera, size or software.
- Verify the payment type, amount and timing in writing before giving up return rights.
Buyers may have different terms depending on country and seller. Samsung.com, a carrier and a third-party retailer can use different return, financing and trade-in rules; the cited reports mainly concern U.S. buyers and do not establish availability in other markets.
