The public figures often used to imply otherwise—a tabloid-derived wardrobe estimate, a couple’s reported net-worth estimate, a nonprofit’s tax filing and a headline contract value—measure different things.
Was Meghan Markle warned about extravagant spending?
The reviewed sources do not identify who supposedly warned Markle, when it happened or what the original warning said. Without a named source or the original statement, the claim in the headline is unsubstantiated and should not be treated as fact.
The available reporting instead documents public comments about money and scarcity. In a May 28, 2025, report on the season finale of Confessions of a Female Founder, The Daily Beast said Markle discussed financial freedom, guilt and scarcity with guest Sara Blakely. Markle said, “And there’s lots of guilt mentality surrounding having a lot.” Blakely said, “Money is really fun to make, really fun to spend and really fun to give away.” These are comments from a podcast conversation, not evidence of a spending warning or a disclosure of Markle’s finances.
What is known about Meghan Markle’s net worth?
No authoritative personal net-worth figure is established by the reviewed sources. The Daily Beast describes a $60 million figure as an estimate for the couple, not a verified balance sheet for Markle. An estimate attributed to a publication is not a personal financial disclosure, and a couple-level estimate does not establish either spouse’s individual assets, debts or spending.

Contract headlines also cannot be read as cash received. A 2025 Vanity Fair profile discusses the widely reported $20 million Spotify contract value and cautions that such deals are not necessarily paid in a lump sum. Sources in the article described benchmarks beyond producing one 12-episode podcast season. The headline value therefore does not establish the amount ultimately paid, Markle’s personal share or her net worth.
Does a £90,000 wardrobe estimate show extravagant spending?
No. British Vogue’s August 2024 account of Markle’s Colombia-tour wardrobe cited a £90,000 tally, but framed it as a tabloid calculation: “£90,000, in fact, if we trust the poor tabloid journos tasked with totting up every pair of Manolos.” It is an estimate of outfit value, not a verified record of money Markle spent. Vogue also noted that she already owned some accessories before planning the tour outfits.

The Vogue article names items and labels including Ray-Ban aviators, a Loro Piana tote, Chanel sling-backs, Cartier jewelry and clothing by South American designers. Those references document a public wardrobe; they do not establish what each item cost, whether it was purchased, gifted or borrowed, or how Markle finances her life. A listed retail value and a person’s out-of-pocket spending are not interchangeable.
What do Archewell Foundation’s finances show?
Archewell Foundation’s 2024 Form 990 reports $2,592,421 in revenue and $5,105,228 in expenses for the nonprofit’s calendar-year filing. The figures appear in the organization’s Form 990 record and its 2024 public-disclosure filing.

These are charitable-organization figures, not household income, personal net worth or the Sussexes’ private spending. A nonprofit’s revenue and expenses belong to the organization’s reporting; they cannot be used as a proxy for a founder’s or public figure’s personal balance sheet.
How to read the financial claims
| Claim or figure | What it describes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| $60 million estimate, reported in 2025 | The Daily Beast’s reported estimate for the couple | Markle’s verified individual net worth or personal spending |
| £90,000 wardrobe tally, reported in 2024 | A tabloid-derived estimate of the Colombia-tour outfits, as characterized by British Vogue | Verified out-of-pocket expenditure |
| $2,592,421 revenue and $5,105,228 expenses, calendar year 2024 | Archewell Foundation’s organizational Form 990 figures | Household income, personal net worth or private spending |
| $20 million Spotify deal value, discussed in 2025 | A widely reported contract headline value; Vanity Fair notes payment may depend on benchmarks rather than a lump sum | Cash received, Markle’s personal share or net worth |
What the public record can—and cannot—say
The sources show that Markle has spoken publicly about guilt surrounding wealth, that publications have estimated the value of some outfits, and that Archewell Foundation has filed organizational accounts. They do not establish that she was warned over spending, disclose a verified personal net worth or provide a current accounting of her private expenditures. The wardrobe coverage is from 2024 and the podcast report is from 2025; neither measures her spending in 2026.
