Western Australia’s first Starbucks opened at Erade Drive in Piara Waters on Thursday, October 24, 2024—not this coming Thursday. Opening-day coverage described a drive-through store and cars queuing from about 4:30 a.m. PerthNow reported the opening preview on October 23 and confirmed the opening on October 24.
Where was WA’s first Starbucks?
The store is at Erade Drive in Piara Waters, in Perth’s southeastern suburbs. Contemporaneous reports described it as a drive-through location. The coverage does not establish the store’s current operating status or hours.
When did the Piara Waters Starbucks open?
It opened on Thursday, October 24, 2024. PerthNow’s preview, published the day before, said it would open the next day; its October 24 follow-up reported that it had opened that morning.
What was offered at opening?
The opening preview described a menu that included Starbucks lattes, caramel macchiato, Frappuccino and Refreshers, along with seasonal drinks and food such as toasties, cakes, doughnuts and pastries. That is the menu reported for the opening period, not a statement of what is available now.

The preview also named Brownes Dairy and Little Home Bakery as local suppliers. Michael Smith, then Starbucks Coffee Australia chairman, said: “This vibrant and rapidly developing area in the southeastern suburbs offers an incredible opportunity to bring our unique coffee culture to the community.” He also said: “We are excited to be part of this growing neighbourhood and look forward to serving our customers with the quality and convenience they expect from Starbucks.”
What happened on opening morning?
PerthNow reported that cars were queuing from about 4:30 a.m. The report also said customers sought Starbucks merchandise and the team had not anticipated needing another merchandise order. These are observations reported at the time, not a verified customer count or proof of current merchandise availability.

What did the opening mean for local jobs?
PerthNow reported that 65 baristas had already been hired for Starbucks’ new Western Australian team. The article also attributed a projection of more than 200 jobs from the company’s WA push to Starbucks. The report did not provide a methodology or establish how many jobs were ultimately created, so the projection should not be read as a confirmed outcome.
