Warner Bros. Games said on February 25, 2025, that Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego would close. It also confirmed that Monolith’s Wonder Woman game, announced in 2021, “will not move forward.”
What happened to the Wonder Woman game?
The game is canceled: Warner Bros. Games said its development would not continue. The publisher said it had hoped to deliver a high-quality experience for the character but that doing so was no longer possible within its strategic priorities. It did not announce a release date, platforms, or a final budget in the statement reported by Gematsu.
Monolith announced the project in 2021. The studio was known for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War, while Player First Games developed MultiVersus, according to PC Gamer. The available announcement coverage does not establish a relevant released game from Warner Bros. Games San Diego.
Which Warner Bros. studios are closing?
- Monolith Productions: Developer of the canceled Wonder Woman game.
- Player First Games: Developer of MultiVersus.
- Warner Bros. Games San Diego: Named in the closure announcement.
Warner Bros. Games described the closures as “a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them,” in the statement reproduced by Gematsu. The statement did not identify an individual speaker.

- Quintessential pairing of 2 heroic characters
- The perfect gift for fans of DC and Sonic the Hedgehog, plus the hit crossover comic book series!

Why did Warner Bros. cancel the game?
The publisher’s stated reason was that the project no longer fit its strategic priorities. It said it was changing direction and structuring development and investment around Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones, as reported by Kotaku.
That official explanation is distinct from financial context in contemporaneous coverage. PC Gamer and Kotaku placed the closures amid broader difficulties for Warner Bros. Games, including reported losses or write-downs tied to other releases. Those reports provide business context, but they are not the cancellation rationale given by the company. Warner Bros. Games said its goal was to return the games business to “profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond”; that was a stated aim, not a confirmed result.
