This does not establish which schemes accept transactions today. The July report also said Edelweiss had stopped fresh SIPs and other investments in select international funds, while PGIM India and Franklin Templeton had suspended fresh investments in some international schemes. Those are scheme-specific, dated reports—not a current October 2026 availability list.

- Open the AMC’s official scheme page and latest notices. Look for a current addendum or subscription notice, and note its effective date. A platform listing or an older fund list does not prove the AMC will accept a transaction.
- Check each transaction route separately. Confirm whether the scheme accepts a fresh SIP registration and a new lump-sum subscription. Also check switch-ins and new systematic transfer plan (STP) registrations if you intend to use either route; restrictions can differ by transaction type.
- Confirm the restriction applies to your intended transaction. Read whether the notice concerns new subscriptions, particular schemes, or particular modes of investment. If the notice is unclear or outdated, ask the AMC or its registrar before submitting an order.
- Recheck at the time you invest. Subscription status can change. Save or note the notice date and confirm the transaction page still allows the specific order before relying on it.
A closure to fresh subscriptions concerns new money. The July report said Baroda BNP Paribas also stopped switch-ins and new STP registrations, but it does not establish that existing units were automatically redeemed or that every existing SIP was cancelled. Do not infer either outcome from a notice about fresh subscriptions; check the AMC’s notice for instructions affecting existing investors.

What an international fund of funds holds
A fund of funds (FoF) invests in units of other schemes. An international FoF may therefore provide overseas exposure through underlying funds or ETFs rather than by holding all foreign securities directly. SEBI’s investor explainer describes a FoF as a fund that “invests in other funds.”
AMFI’s international-funds guide lists possible exposures including foreign-listed equities, American or Global Depository Receipts (ADRs/GDRs), foreign debt, overseas ETFs, and units in foreign passive index funds or active mutual funds. A scheme may also hold Indian equity or debt and money-market instruments for liquidity. The exact region, index, strategy, and holdings depend on the scheme’s mandate, so check its current documents and portfolio rather than assuming that all international FoFs offer similar exposure.

What to compare once you find an open scheme
- Exposure: Identify the countries, region, index, sector, or investment strategy represented. Check whether the exposure is direct or comes through underlying funds or ETFs.
- Underlying portfolio: Review the underlying scheme’s holdings, concentration, and liquidity. An FoF label alone does not mean two funds provide the same diversification.
- Transaction access: Verify fresh SIP registrations and lump-sum subscriptions separately, along with any switch-in or STP restrictions relevant to your plan.
- Costs: Account for expenses at both levels: the FoF’s own expenses and those charged by the schemes it holds. AMFI notes that an FoF has these two layers of expenses.
- Risks: Consider currency movements, political events, unfamiliar macroeconomic conditions, and changes in countries’ policies toward global investors. Geographic or sector concentration can add risks specific to the underlying exposure.
AMFI says international funds are treated as non-equity-oriented mutual-fund schemes for tax purposes. Tax rules can change and depend on current law and an investor’s circumstances, so verify the applicable treatment before investing.

International schemes can pause subscriptions when overseas investment capacity is constrained, but a regulatory framework or aggregate limit does not tell you whether a particular scheme is accepting money now.
An AMFI-hosted scheme document records a USD 7 billion overall mutual-fund ceiling for overseas securities, a USD 1 billion aggregate ceiling for overseas ETFs investing in securities, and a USD 300 million maximum per mutual fund for overseas ETFs. The document does not specify the date of the underlying limits in the cited excerpt, and these figures are not measures of current utilization or available headroom. It says SEBI advised AMFI on June 17, 2022 that subscriptions and overseas investments could resume up to available headroom without breaching mutual-fund-level limits as of February 1, 2022. It also records that subscriptions intended for overseas ETFs were to be suspended from April 1, 2024, while investment in other overseas securities could continue pending further communication. The AMFI-hosted scheme document records those provisions; they should not be read as a fresh confirmation of October 2026 capacity.
SEBI’s 2026 categorization circular sets out a framework for overseas FoFs, including consideration of liquidity in overseas funds, collective assets following underlying indices, and passive-index portfolio-concentration norms. It also describes overseas FoF structures investing in multiple active funds, passive funds, or both. The circular classifies schemes; it does not confirm that any specific FoF currently accepts subscriptions. Read SEBI’s 2026 circular.
