Rhodes Jr., identified in contemporaneous reporting as Walter P. Chrysler’s great-grandson, proposed acquiring Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth and Mopar from Stellantis and reviving them under American ownership. It was a proposal—not an agreed sale or proof of financing. September 2024 reporting said Stellantis stated that none of its brands was for sale; the proposal’s later status is not established by the sources available through October 2026.
Who is Frank B. Rhodes Jr.?
Rhodes is identified in contemporaneous reporting as Walter P. Chrysler’s great-grandson. In his letter, dated August 26, 2024, he described himself as “the great-grandson of Walter P.Chrysler, the innovative founder of CHRYSLER CORPORATION in 1925.” Independent reporting also identified him as Chrysler’s great-grandson. Motor1’s August 27, 2024 report and Rhodes’s letter document the claim and proposal.
What did Rhodes want to acquire?
The letter was addressed to Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares and Chrysler brand CEO Christine Feuell. Its subject named four brands: Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth and Mopar. Rhodes proposed keeping them in the United States and described a model based on stockholder and employee control. Contemporary coverage summarized his aim as acquiring the brands from Stellantis and seeking investors to make the plan possible. The letter records his stated aims.
Did Stellantis agree to sell?
No sale is documented in the cited coverage. Rhodes’s letter establishes that he made a request; it does not establish that Stellantis accepted it, that the brands changed ownership, or that financing was secured. September 2024 reporting said Stellantis responded that none of its brands was for sale. That was a reported statement at the time, not evidence of a completed transaction or a formal purchase process. September 2024 coverage reported Stellantis’s response, while contemporaneous reporting underscores that the proposal was not a completed deal.

What was the business plan—and what remains unknown?
Motor1’s August 2024 account characterized the proposal as light on detail about how a new Chrysler Corporation would be created. That is the reporter’s assessment, not a completed financial or operational analysis. The cited sources do not provide independently verified financing, a valuation, a detailed operating plan, or proof of investor commitments. They therefore do not support a reliable estimate of the plan’s cost, likelihood of success, or ability to restore the brands.
The same report described the lineup situation as it stood in 2024: Chrysler had contracted to the Pacifica minivan after the Chrysler 300 ended production, and Dodge’s Charger and Challenger had ended production the prior year. Those are dated 2024 details, not a statement of either brand’s lineup in 2026. Motor1’s report provides that historical context.

What is the proposal’s status now?
The available reporting centers on August and September 2024. It does not establish what happened to Rhodes’s proposal afterward or its status as of October 2026. It would be inaccurate to describe the proposal as active, formally rejected through a transaction process, or resolved without newer evidence.
