Walmart’s public filings show a business concentrated in U.S. operations and grocery, alongside faster reported growth in eCommerce and health and wellness. A useful sales analysis turns those disclosures into comparable charts without pretending they reveal store-level transactions or prove why sales changed. This guide uses Walmart fiscal 2026, the year ended January 31, 2026, as its latest completed annual baseline, and explains how to build and interpret a reproducible dashboard.

What Walmart sales data can—and cannot—show

Walmart reports consolidated revenue, operating-segment net sales, geographic revenue, U.S. merchandise-category sales, and eCommerce figures. Its three principal operating segments are Walmart U.S., Walmart International, and Sam’s Club U.S. These measures answer different questions, so label each one rather than treating “sales” as a single interchangeable metric. Walmart’s FY2026 annual report is the primary source for the figures below.

  • Revenue is the consolidated accounting measure.
  • Net sales is used in segment and merchandise disclosures.
  • Comparable sales compare a defined group of stores or clubs over comparable periods; they are not the same as reported dollar growth.
  • eCommerce sales are Walmart-reported figures, not a clean measure of website-only transactions.

The annual-report figures describe Walmart as a company, not individual stores, customers, products, or campaigns. They cannot establish which store performed best, average basket size, customer retention, product conversion, or campaign return on investment. The fiscal-year label matters: Walmart FY2026 ended January 31, 2026, rather than December 31, 2026.

Build a consistent data table before charting

Keep the source values intact and create a separate display field for rounded figures. A tidy dataset makes the analysis easier to audit and reuse across a spreadsheet, BI tool, or code project.

Consolidated and geographic revenue

Walmart reported revenue in billions of dollars as follows. These are reported revenue amounts, not segment net sales.

Fiscal year U.S. operations Non-U.S. operations Total revenue
FY2024 $532.076B $116.049B $648.125B
FY2025 $557.622B $123.363B $680.985B
FY2026 $581.175B $131.988B $713.163B

Walmart U.S. merchandise categories

These figures are Walmart U.S. net sales, in billions of dollars. They are not a breakdown of every Walmart business worldwide.

Fiscal year Grocery General merchandise Health and wellness Other Total Walmart U.S. net sales
FY2024 $264.210B $113.985B $54.898B $8.724B $441.817B
FY2025 $276.003B $113.921B $62.092B $10.399B $462.415B
FY2026 $285.482B $115.060B $69.547B $12.886B $482.975B

Walmart U.S. eCommerce

Walmart reported these approximate eCommerce sales amounts, in billions of dollars:

Fiscal year Walmart U.S. eCommerce sales
FY2024 Approximately $65.4B
FY2025 Approximately $79.3B
FY2026 Approximately $99.6B

Walmart’s eCommerce disclosure includes digitally initiated omnichannel transactions that may be fulfilled through a store or club, as well as certain related offerings such as advertising arrangements, fulfillment services, and data insights. Do not label this series “website-only sales.”

Recommended fields and checks

For a reusable source table, include fiscal year, period-end date, measure name, segment, geography, category, value in USD millions, source document, source page or note, and an approximate-value flag. Add the measure definition and currency basis where relevant. Keep annual and quarterly observations separate, and do not mix reported and adjusted values without clearly labeling them.

  • Convert values to one unit, preferably USD billions for chart display, while retaining the original figures.
  • Check that merchandise categories reconcile to Walmart U.S. net sales and geography totals reconcile to consolidated revenue.
  • Confirm fiscal periods match and check for category reclassifications; Walmart notes it may revise category assignments and reclassify prior-period amounts for comparability.
  • Recalculate percentages from unrounded source values. Rounded display numbers may not sum exactly to reported totals.
  • Keep approximate eCommerce amounts identified as approximate.

Calculate growth, mix, and change

Use a consistent formula for each series and state the denominator in the chart or accompanying text.

  • Year-over-year growth: (current-year value − previous-year value) ÷ previous-year value.
  • Share of total: category or geography value ÷ the relevant total.
  • Percentage-point change: current share − previous share.
  • Absolute change: current-year value − previous-year value.

For example, Walmart U.S. grocery’s FY2026 increase was $9.479 billion ($285.482 billion minus $276.003 billion), or about 3.4% year over year. Showing both the dollar change and rate prevents a small category’s high percentage growth from being mistaken for the largest contribution.

Choose charts that answer specific questions

Show the revenue trend with a line chart

Plot total revenue by fiscal year, in billions of dollars, for scale and direction. Revenue rose from $648.125 billion in FY2024 to $680.985 billion in FY2025 and $713.163 billion in FY2026. The FY2025-to-FY2026 increase was approximately 4.7%, calculated from reported values. Label the fiscal-year basis and note that FY2026 ended January 31, 2026.

Compare geographic mix with a stacked bar

Use a regular stacked bar when the question is absolute revenue; use a 100% stacked bar when the question is composition. In FY2026, U.S. operations represented about 81.5% of Walmart’s revenue and non-U.S. operations about 18.5%, calculated from reported figures. This shows the company’s U.S. concentration, not comparable country-level performance across all international markets.

Compare category size with a horizontal bar chart

For FY2026 Walmart U.S. net sales, a horizontal bar chart makes category scale easy to compare: grocery was $285.482 billion, general merchandise $115.060 billion, health and wellness $69.547 billion, and other $12.886 billion. Grocery represented about 59.1% of Walmart U.S. net sales, calculated from the reported amounts. A common baseline communicates these differences more clearly than a pie chart.

Reveal category growth with an indexed line or slope chart

Set each category to FY2024 = 100 and plot its subsequent values. Indexing keeps grocery’s much larger base from visually overwhelming other categories and helps show relative pace. Pair the index with a separate dollar-change view: an index alone does not show how much revenue was added. “Other” grew about 23.9% from FY2025 to FY2026, but from a much smaller base than grocery.

Give eCommerce its own panel

A column chart can show the approximate Walmart U.S. eCommerce amounts, with a separate line or labels for year-over-year growth and eCommerce as a share of Walmart U.S. net sales. The FY2026 share was about 20.6%, calculated by dividing the approximate $99.6 billion eCommerce figure by $482.975 billion in Walmart U.S. net sales. Because the numerator is approximate and has a broader omnichannel definition, identify both qualifications directly on the chart.

Use a scale-versus-growth scatter plot for prioritization

Plot FY2026 category sales on the horizontal axis and FY2025-to-FY2026 growth rate on the vertical axis. This separates large categories from faster-growing ones. Use one point per category and avoid adding bubble size unless it represents a clearly defined third measure. The visual can identify where scale and growth differ; it cannot explain the causes of those differences.

Use a waterfall only when the components reconcile

A waterfall can start with FY2025 Walmart U.S. net sales, show category-level changes, and end at FY2026 Walmart U.S. net sales. Calculate the category changes from unrounded values and reconcile them to the reported total before publishing. If displayed rounded components do not add precisely to the endpoint, explain the rounding difference rather than implying an exact bridge.

Build the dashboard in a reproducible sequence

  1. Download the annual reports. Use Walmart’s Financial Results page for annual and quarterly materials; the Annual Reports page provides the annual-report index. Use the FY2026 annual report for the latest annual baseline in this analysis.
  2. Extract and record the source data. Enter the relevant consolidated, geographic, category, and eCommerce disclosures into a raw-data sheet or table. Record the measure, fiscal year, unit, source document, and whether the value is approximate.
  3. Normalize the table. Use one row per fiscal year and measure combination, retain reported values, and create a consistent display unit. Do not combine quarterly and annual observations in one series.
  4. Add calculated fields. Calculate absolute change, year-over-year growth, and share using the formulas above. Keep those derived fields distinct from company-reported figures.
  5. Build focused visuals. Use separate panels for total revenue, geographic mix, U.S. category size and growth, and eCommerce. Avoid dual axes that make unrelated series appear connected.
  6. Add useful filters. If the dashboard includes more periods or measures, provide filters for fiscal year, segment, geography, and measure. Keep the default view focused on one coherent scope.
  7. Annotate definitions and sources. Put the fiscal-year end date, units, reported-versus-derived status, and eCommerce qualification where readers can see them without hunting for a separate legend.
  8. Reconcile before sharing. Check category and geography totals against the filing, verify fiscal-year alignment, and make sure rounded labels do not suggest false precision.

Walmart’s Segment Financial Information page is another official source for segment materials; the page currently exposes a downloadable FY2025 segment file rather than a fully rendered historical table. Walmart’s FY2026 10-K filing is available in HTML.

Interpret the FY2026 picture without overclaiming

  • Growth continued at the consolidated level: total revenue increased about 4.7% from FY2025 to FY2026, based on reported amounts.
  • The United States remained the main revenue base: U.S. operations made up about 81.5% of FY2026 revenue. Non-U.S. operations grew about 7.0% year over year, compared with about 4.2% for U.S. operations, using reported revenue amounts.
  • Grocery dominated Walmart U.S. merchandise sales: it was the largest category by a wide margin, while its approximately 3.4% year-over-year growth rate was lower than health and wellness.
  • Health and wellness grew faster than grocery: sales rose from $62.092 billion in FY2025 to $69.547 billion in FY2026, an increase of about 12.0% calculated from reported values.
  • Reported eCommerce expanded quickly: Walmart U.S. eCommerce rose from approximately $79.3 billion to approximately $99.6 billion, about 25.6% year over year using those approximate figures. Its definition includes omnichannel activity and related offerings, so it should not be read as a pure channel split.

These are descriptive findings. Revenue growth does not establish profitability, customer behavior, or causation. A simultaneous rise in eCommerce and total revenue does not prove that eCommerce caused all of the increase.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Calling every measure “sales” without qualification: revenue, segment net sales, comparable sales, and eCommerce disclosures have different scopes.
  • Calling eCommerce website-only sales: Walmart’s reported figure includes digitally initiated omnichannel transactions and certain other offerings.
  • Inferring local performance from company totals: the cited disclosures do not provide enough detail to rank individual stores or make unsupported state-level sales claims.
  • Showing growth percentages without scale: pair growth rate with category size or dollar change, especially for smaller categories.
  • Letting one large category hide the rest: use an indexed chart or separate growth panel rather than forcing all categories onto one scale.
  • Using decorative or misleading visuals: avoid 3D bars, unsupported maps, flow diagrams that imply accounting flows, crowded pie charts, and dual axes that imply a relationship between unrelated measures.
  • Ignoring currency and business-scope effects: international reported growth can reflect local performance, currency translation, acquisitions or divestitures, and changes in scope. Identify whether an international comparison is reported or constant-currency.
  • Treating third-party datasets as Walmart financial records: educational, synthetic, scraped, or marketplace-product datasets are not substitutes for Walmart’s consolidated filings.

For quarterly or investor-focused extensions, Walmart’s Financial Results page provides quarterly filings and earnings materials. Annual data is generally better for strategic mix and trend comparisons; quarterly data is useful for seasonality and shorter-term changes, provided periods and definitions are kept consistent. Do not compare another retailer without aligning fiscal periods, currencies, and accounting measures.
