The rollout was phased, however—not every resident of those cities automatically qualified. As of the latest Wing market listing, Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, and Orlando are marked “Now serving,” while Tampa is listed as “Coming soon.” Customers must still check their exact address, store, order, and drop-off location.
This matters for shoppers weighing speed against delivery cost and convenience: Wing is designed for small, urgent orders, not as a universal replacement for standard Walmart delivery.

What Walmart and Wing announced
The June 2025 announcement covered more than 100 additional Walmart stores across five new U.S. markets:

Walmart and Wing also planned to expand their existing Dallas–Fort Worth operation, which included 18 Supercenters at the time. Walmart described the broader effort as spanning five states—Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas. Arkansas was part of the existing footprint, not one of the five newly announced cities. Walmart’s announcement and Wing’s announcement described the expansion as a planned rollout over the following months.

Where is Walmart drone delivery available?
Wing’s current Walmart page lists these statuses:
| Market | State | Wing status |
|---|---|---|
| Atlanta | Georgia | Now serving |
| Charlotte | North Carolina | Now serving |
| Dallas–Fort Worth | Texas | Now serving |
| Houston | Texas | Now serving |
| Orlando | Florida | Now serving |
| Tampa | Florida | Coming soon |
“Now serving” is a market-level label, not a promise that every address or every Walmart store is covered. Eligibility depends on the participating store, the exact delivery address, the approved flight zone, store operations, and whether the property has a suitable drop-off area. Check Wing’s live Walmart availability page rather than relying only on the city name.
How to check eligibility
- Open Wing’s Walmart page and enter the delivery address.
- If the address is outside the active zone, join the notification list if one is offered.
- If eligible, follow the available Walmart or Wing ordering flow.
- Confirm a precise drop-off location, such as an appropriate front or back yard.
The interface, ordering integration, and availability can vary by market. A home inside a metro area may still be outside the actual service polygon.

Customers choose from thousands of eligible Walmart items and identify where the package should be delivered. The Wing aircraft takes off from the Walmart store, flies to the customer, and lowers the package to the ground rather than landing at the home. Wing says its aircraft can travel at up to 65 mph. Walmart marketed delivery in 30 minutes or less, but that is a stated service proposition—not a guaranteed time for every order. Wing explains the delivery process here.
A suitable drop zone is a practical requirement. Apartments, dense neighborhoods, fences, trees, power lines, and properties without a clear landing-area equivalent may not work. Weather, maintenance, aircraft availability, and temporary airspace restrictions can also pause or delay service.

What can be delivered?
Walmart has highlighted lightweight, everyday products such as:
- Groceries and fresh produce
- Household essentials
- Over-the-counter cold and flu medicine
- Baby formula and COVID tests
- Snacks, eggs, and ice cream
- Pet food
Frequently delivered examples have included bananas, lemons and limes, Great Value eggs, ice cream, and pet food. Product eligibility can vary by weight, dimensions, packaging, inventory, local rules, and the provider’s operating limits. A large weekly grocery order, bulky goods, alcohol, or other restricted products should not be assumed to qualify.
Speed, range, and regulation
Walmart has said Wing operates under FAA guidelines and supports Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations, with aircraft range of up to six miles from the store. Those figures do not mean every address within six miles is eligible. Flight permissions, airspace, local operating conditions, weather, and safe drop-off requirements still apply.
Walmart’s later figures provide a broader view of performance: on May 29, 2026, it reported more than one million drone deliveries across 66 stores, four states, and five metro markets. Walmart reported an average delivery time of 23 minutes and a fastest delivery of 4 minutes 44 seconds. These are reported network figures, not guarantees for a particular order. Read Walmart’s milestone announcement.
Why Walmart is expanding
The consumer case is straightforward: drone delivery can make sense when someone needs forgotten ingredients, medicine, snacks, or another small item quickly. Walmart positions it alongside—not instead of—Express Delivery, late-night delivery, and InHome Delivery.

The business case is less settled. Store-based drone hubs can shorten the last mile, but they require aircraft, launch infrastructure, maintenance, remote operations, training, and regulatory compliance. The key financial question is whether enough orders can spread those fixed costs across a sufficiently large customer base. Wing CEO Adam Woodworth said the company was focused on scaling flights while controlling resources and expenses; TechCrunch reported that Wing had not disclosed when it expected to become profitable. TechCrunch’s coverage provides additional business context.

Wing is not Walmart’s only drone partner. Walmart has also worked with Zipline, which uses its own aircraft and operating model; Walmart said Zipline had launched P2 drone sites at two Texas stores. Wing’s June 2025 expansion was the announcement covering the five listed markets.
The services should not be treated as interchangeable. Coverage, item limits, aircraft, delivery mechanics, pricing, and ordering interfaces may differ by store and address. Walmart’s earlier DFW expansion announcement provides additional Wing and Zipline context.
What changed after the 2025 announcement?
The program moved beyond its earlier small-scale rollout, but the timeline remains important:
- In August 2023, Walmart said its Wing partnership would add two Dallas-area stores and reach another 60,000 homes. Walmart’s 2023 announcement documents that stage.
- In December 2025, Wing said it launched Metro Atlanta service from six Walmart stores. See the launch announcement.
- By May 2026, Walmart reported more than one million deliveries across 66 stores and five metro markets.
- Wing later announced plans for another 150 Walmart stores and identified future markets including Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami. It also listed additional planned markets on its live service page. Planned locations should not be confused with active coverage. Wing’s later expansion announcement contains those plans.
When drone delivery makes financial sense
Drone delivery is most useful when:
- The address is confirmed eligible.
- The order is small, light, and available at the participating store.
- Speed matters more than placing a large consolidated order.
- The property has a clear, acceptable drop-off location.
Standard or Express Walmart delivery may be a better fit for a large grocery shop, bulky products, restricted items, an address outside the flight zone, or a customer who needs a more predictable conventional delivery option. InHome may be preferable where available if the goal is delivery inside the home or directly to a refrigerator.
The announcements reviewed do not establish a universal drone-delivery fee, minimum order, Walmart+ requirement, or surcharge. Check the live checkout flow for the specific eligible address and date instead of assuming drone delivery is free or carries a standard price.
