EVERY1 at around €20,000, planned for 2027. Separately, it is developing China-market vehicles locally and has set cost and development-speed targets to compete with Chinese manufacturers. These are plans and company targets, not proof that the cars are available or that the targets have been met.
Which affordable Volkswagen EVs are planned for Europe?
The European program centers on two models in Volkswagen’s Electric Urban Car Family. Volkswagen describes the family as front-wheel-drive cars based on the MEB platform. The announced prices are target classes or approximate starting prices, not confirmed final retail prices.
| Model | Announced price positioning | Announced timing | Status and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| ID.2all | €25,000 class | Production launch targeted for 2026 | The figure and schedule are described on Volkswagen’s 2025 ID. What the ID.2all concept figures do—and do not—tell buyers
Volkswagen’s March 2023 concept announcement listed an approximately 450 km WLTP range and an approximately 20-minute 10–80% charging time. Those are concept figures, not established specifications for the production car. They should not be treated as a promise of the final model’s range, charging performance, or real-world results. How is Volkswagen’s China strategy different?
The European urban-car plans and the China effort are distinct. Volkswagen’s stated China approach is to develop and tailor products locally rather than rely only on European models adapted for China. In March 2024, the company said it aimed for cost parity with local competitors in entry-level compact vehicles by 2026. It also described its China Main Platform (CMP) as targeting a 40% cost reduction by 2026, supported by a zonal electrical/electronic architecture developed with XPENG and competitive battery technology. These are Volkswagen’s objectives, not independently verified outcomes. Volkswagen Group’s China cost and technology strategy.

Local development and shorter timelines
Volkswagen says its Hefei-based Volkswagen Group China Technology Company (VCTC) can shorten the time to market for local products by 30%. That is a company claim about its intended development process; the cited announcement does not establish that the reduction has been achieved in delivered vehicles. The same 2024 release forecast that entry-level compact vehicles could account for more than 50% of China’s total market in the future. That is a forecast, not a measured current market share. What the 2026 China launch plan means
At Auto China in April 2026, Volkswagen Group presented four world premieres: Volkswagen ID. UNYX 09 and ID. AURA T6, JETTA X, and AUDI E7X. The Group said it planned to launch 20 smart electric vehicles in China during 2026. That is a group-wide launch plan, not a count of affordable Volkswagen-brand cars confirmed as sold or delivered. The announcement does not establish that all 20 vehicles have reached customers. Volkswagen Group’s Auto China 2026 announcement.

Can Volkswagen compete with Chinese EV makers on price?
Volkswagen’s plans address the competitive pressure directly, but the available figures do not show whether it has closed the price gap. The €20,000 and €25,000 figures relate to planned European models; the China cost-parity and platform-reduction figures are targets for a separate market and product strategy. They cannot be used as a like-for-like price comparison with Chinese rivals.
Associated Press reporting on April 24, 2024 described Volkswagen’s China challenge as involving fast-moving local EV makers, price pressure, and customer expectations for connected in-car technology. It also reported the company’s shift toward local development. This is dated context, not a current market measurement. Associated Press report, April 24, 2024.
