Virgin Atlantic cancelled its London Heathrow–Riyadh flights from 7 April 2026, roughly a year after launching the route in March 2025. The airline cited the latest intelligence and regulatory guidance, saying the decision would help it maintain a stable, reliable schedule. It says travellers can continue to reach Saudi Arabia through its partner Saudia.
Which Virgin Atlantic route was cancelled?
The affected service was between London Heathrow (LHR) and Riyadh (RUH). Virgin Atlantic’s partner bulletin says the cancellation took effect on 7 April 2026. The Independent reported that the airline launched the route in March 2025, making its operating life about a year.
Virgin Atlantic stated: “Based on the latest intelligence and regulatory guidance, and to ensure we can operate a stable and reliable schedule, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel our services between London Heathrow and Riyadh from 7th April 2026.”
Why did Virgin Atlantic cancel the flights?
The airline’s stated reasons were the latest intelligence and regulatory guidance, alongside its aim of operating a stable and reliable schedule. The Independent’s 1 April 2026 report placed the decision amid the ongoing Middle East conflict and said the considerations included demand and operating costs as well. Those additional factors are the newspaper’s account, not wording in the airline bulletin.

What are the alternatives for travel from London?
Virgin Atlantic says Saudi Arabia connectivity will continue through Saudia, its codeshare and SkyTeam partner. Its bulletin identifies Saudia-operated services from London Heathrow to both Riyadh and Jeddah. This is alternative connectivity on Saudia; it does not mean Virgin Atlantic continues to operate its own London–Riyadh nonstop service.
When comparing an itinerary, check the travel date, whether it is nonstop or connecting, the departure and arrival airports, fare conditions, and who issued the ticket. The sources cited here do not establish comparative fares, schedules, or service quality.

What should affected passengers do?
If you hold a Virgin Atlantic booking to Riyadh, review the notification from the airline or the provider through which you booked, then contact that provider to confirm the options for your specific ticket. The public bulletin confirms the cancellation and names Saudia as an alternative, but does not set out complete rebooking, refund, or compensation terms. Do not assume that a particular remedy applies without checking your booking conditions and the airline’s notice.
