It offers colocation, cloud infrastructure, servers, backup, disaster recovery, connectivity and security services for organizations operating in Vietnam. Viettel describes itself as a leading or number-one provider, but “Vietnam’s largest” is not a settled fact without specifying whether the comparison is by facility count, floor area, rack capacity, power, revenue or market share.
What is Viettel IDC?
Viettel–CHT, commonly called Viettel IDC, says it was established on March 6, 2008. It is a dedicated data-center and cloud-services business affiliated with Viettel Group, rather than simply a name for Viettel’s entire telecom network or a server department. Its catalogue includes infrastructure, platform and managed services. Viettel IDC describes its business and company identity on its About Us page.
Related names can be confusing. Viettel IDC is the operator and service provider discussed here. Viettel Cloud refers to cloud products and services in the wider Viettel ecosystem; Viettel Solutions promotes digital and enterprise solutions and describes infrastructure belonging to the broader Viettel group. Viettel Telecom is the telecom business. Their assets and claims should not automatically be counted as Viettel IDC’s standalone facilities. Viettel IDC offers services through its own commercial pages and sales channels; some enterprise products require a quote rather than self-service checkout.
Is Viettel IDC really Vietnam’s largest?
Viettel’s own material uses leading or number-one positioning, but “largest” needs a metric and a date. The company’s current About Us page reports nine data centers and 57,250 square meters of server-room floor area. Other Viettel IDC pages report five facilities, while a Viettel Solutions page describes 13 data centers, 9,000 racks and more than 60,000 square meters for broader Viettel infrastructure. These figures are not interchangeable: they may reflect different dates, facility definitions, entities or expansion stages. The pages do not establish a single like-for-like, independently verified current ranking across all measures.

A Vietcap market report identifies Viettel IDC among leading domestic operators and discusses competitors including VNPT IDC and FPT Telecom. Third-party market context supports the view that Viettel is a major provider, not a universal conclusion about which company is largest by every capacity or commercial measure. See the Vietcap Vietnam Strategy 2025 report.
Where are Viettel IDC’s facilities?
The company’s About Us page lists sites in Hanoi, Da Nang and the southern region. A listed location is not proof that every service, certification, power density or network option is available there; confirm the specific site and product in a proposal.
| Listed facility | Region | What to confirm before choosing it |
|---|---|---|
| Phap Van | Hanoi | Current certificate and scope, available rack and power capacity, network options, and supported products. |
| Hoa Lac facilities | Hanoi | Which facility is proposed, current certification, power density, capacity and service availability. |
| Da Nang | Central Vietnam | Available services, network routes, capacity and whether it can serve as an independent recovery site. |
| Hoang Hoa Tham | Ho Chi Minh City | Current certificate and scope, capacity, connectivity and product availability. |
| Binh Duong | Southern region | Site-specific services, capacity, network diversity and suitability for a separate recovery environment. |
The wider Viettel Solutions page cites 500,000 km of fiber, five international submarine cables and a large Metro Ethernet network. Those are claims about broader Viettel infrastructure, not a statement that every route, cable or network resource is dedicated to Viettel IDC customers. Confirm the actual route, carrier diversity and service terms for the proposed deployment.
What do the standards and uptime claims mean?
Data-center infrastructure includes the building and systems that support IT equipment: power, cooling, physical security, racks, fire protection, monitoring and network connectivity. TIA-942 Rated 3 is a facility classification; it is not, by itself, an uptime promise for an application or a guarantee against interruption. Availability depends on the facility, maintenance, network design, service-level agreement (SLA) and how the customer configures its systems.
Viettel IDC’s current company page reports Rated 3 TIA-942 facilities and publishes a 99.99% uptime claim. Ask for the SLA for the particular service and site, including measurement method, exclusions, maintenance windows and service-credit limits. Its separate announcement describes a Rated 4 certification claim. That should be checked against the current certificate and its exact facility and scope; it should not be generalized to every Viettel IDC site. The announcement also contains an older five-facility description, which is one reason facility counts need dates and definitions.

Viettel IDC materials also refer to management-system or service certifications such as ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 22301 and PCI DSS. A certificate matters only within its stated scope and validity; ask for the document applicable to the service and facility under consideration. None of these certifications guarantees zero downtime, zero data loss, regulatory compliance for every workload or security of a customer system that is misconfigured.
What services does Viettel IDC provide?
Viettel IDC’s current About Us page describes an ecosystem of more than 50 services and solutions. The company’s pages use different service counts, so treat the number as its own catalogue description rather than an independently audited count. The service families span physical infrastructure through cloud platforms and managed operations.
| Category | Examples | Typically suits |
|---|---|---|
| Colocation and data-center services | Rack space, power, connectivity, consulting and facility services | Organizations that own equipment or need physical control in a domestic facility. |
| Dedicated hosting | Provider-supplied physical servers | Predictable workloads needing dedicated hardware without owning and housing it. |
| Cloud infrastructure | Cloud Server, Virtual Private Cloud, public, private, hybrid and dedicated cloud; OpenStack options; GPU infrastructure | Teams seeking provisionable compute, virtual networking or a hybrid design. |
| Storage and continuity | Object and file storage, cloud backup, disaster recovery and data archiving | Workloads needing storage, retention or recovery capabilities defined by explicit RPO and RTO targets. |
| Security | Cloud firewall, Anti-DDoS, endpoint protection, virtual SOC and web-application protection | Organizations looking to combine infrastructure and security services under a provider relationship. |
| Platform and application services | Kubernetes, container registry, database services, API gateway, DevSecOps tools and cloud desktop products | Teams that want platform components without building every layer themselves. |
| Connectivity and managed services | Site and data-center links, cloud migration and managed infrastructure operations | Businesses integrating facilities, offices, cloud resources and ongoing operations. |
Product details vary. The provider’s cloud-services page describes its service ecosystem, while its price-list page directs buyers to request detailed pricing for many cloud, colocation, storage, security and platform services.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →How do colocation, dedicated servers and cloud differ?
- Colocation: You supply or control the physical hardware and rent space, power and connectivity in a data center. It fits specialized equipment or a need for physical control, but you remain responsible for hardware lifecycle and much of the operating work.
- Dedicated hosting: The provider supplies a physical server. This avoids buying and housing the machine yourself, but scaling is less elastic than adding virtual cloud resources.
- Cloud infrastructure: You provision virtual compute, storage and networking. It is usually the more flexible choice for rapid deployment or changing resource needs; clarify performance, billing, backup and availability-zone design.
- Managed services: The provider takes on agreed operating tasks. Define responsibility boundaries, response times, access, incident handling and what remains your team’s responsibility.
A hybrid architecture may combine customer-owned equipment in colocation, cloud resources for variable workloads and a separate site for recovery. Do not assume that buying backup automatically provides a tested disaster-recovery service.

Many enterprise services are configuration-priced. Request a written quotation that identifies the facility, configuration, recurring and one-time charges, term, taxes, support and exit costs. The published Cloud Server specification is a small entry configuration, not a like-for-like basis for comparing a larger production server or an international cloud instance.

The right comparison depends on workload location, network, service scope and contract—not just a headline monthly price. Provider pages and offer terms change, so compare current written quotations with matching resources and assumptions.

Who is Viettel IDC a good fit for?
- Potentially strong fit: Vietnamese businesses that want local contracting and support, a domestic facility, or a combination of connectivity, colocation, cloud, backup and security.
- Potentially strong fit: Government, finance and other regulated workloads when the chosen product, facility and contract meet the organization’s specific regulatory and data-location requirements.
- Potentially strong fit: Hybrid deployments or geographically separated recovery plans, provided the proposed sites and network paths are genuinely independent enough for the risk being managed.
- Potentially weaker fit: Small developer teams that require a highly self-service global cloud with extensive public documentation, or workloads that depend on a particular hyperscaler-native service.
- Potentially weaker fit: Applications whose users are primarily outside Vietnam and need compute near those users, or buyers requiring public prices for every enterprise configuration.
- Capacity-dependent fit: GPU-intensive or specialized AI deployments. Confirm exact hardware, density, availability and reservation terms before designing around them.
Viettel IDC identifies government, banks, finance, insurance, securities, multinational companies, e-commerce, digital-content, telecom and technology businesses among its target sectors. A customer logo is not a detailed case study: ask for a customer-approved reference or documented deployment scope if performance evidence matters.
What should you verify before signing?
Request answers in the proposal or contract, not only in a sales conversation. The questions below help expose differences that a facility label or monthly headline price will not show.
- Facility and geography: Which exact site hosts the service? Is the required product available there? Are primary and recovery environments separated by meaningful power, fiber, flood and regional failure domains?
- Availability and recovery: What is the service-specific SLA, how is uptime measured, and what maintenance is excluded? What are the power, UPS, generator, cooling and network redundancy designs? What recovery-time objective (RTO) and recovery-point objective (RPO) are contracted, and how often is recovery tested?
- Network: Is the stated speed a port rate or guaranteed throughput? What is domestic versus international bandwidth? Are there traffic caps, egress charges, acceptable-use rules, DDoS thresholds or cross-connect fees? Which upstream carriers and routes are diverse?
- Cloud architecture: Which hypervisor or cloud platform is used? Are APIs, infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes or VMware integrations supported? What are storage performance and IOPS, scaling limits, snapshot behavior, backup retention and migration options? Is a GPU configuration actually available at the intended site?
- Security and compliance: Request current certificates and their scope, access-control and visitor procedures, CCTV retention, security-monitoring coverage, incident-notification timelines, data-processing terms and vulnerability-management procedures. Define the boundary between provider and customer responsibilities.
- Commercial terms: Confirm VAT, setup, minimum term, deposit, currency, payment method, price changes, power overage, extra IPs, remote-hands fees, installation, migration, backup retention, egress, early termination, hardware removal and data-erasure procedures.
Common mistakes are treating Rated 3 as a service uptime guarantee, assuming “unlimited traffic” means unlimited international throughput, comparing differently sized VPS plans, placing primary and DR systems in the same failure domain, and treating backup as a tested recovery plan. Specify the service, site, routes, tests and remedies that matter to your workload.
