Vietjet made its June 2025 memorandum of understanding for 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft a firm order on 30 October 2025. Airbus said the contract brought the airline’s total A321neo orders to 280. That is an order tally—not the number of aircraft delivered or in service.
What Vietjet ordered—and when
At the Paris Air Show on 17 June 2025, Vietjet and Airbus announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for 100 A321neo aircraft, with the potential to add another 50. On 30 October, Airbus announced that Vietjet had converted the MoU into a firm order for 100 aircraft. The potential extra 50 were not part of that October firm order.
Airbus said the new contract took Vietjet’s A321neo order total to 280. The announcement does not establish how many of those aircraft have been delivered or entered service, nor whether the tally changed after October 2025. Airbus’s 30 October 2025 announcement describes the contract and order total.
How the order fits the June agreement
The June MoU set out 100 aircraft and the possibility of 50 more; the October announcement made the 100-aircraft portion firm. Keeping those figures separate avoids treating a potential addition as an aircraft order. In June 2025, Airbus said nearly 100 customers had ordered more than 7,100 A321neo aircraft as of the end of September 2025. That is manufacturer-reported market context, not a figure for Vietjet’s fleet.

Where the contract was signed
Vietjet said the contract was signed during General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to the United Kingdom. The airline described the signing at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the exchange at the Vietnam–UK High-Level Economic Conference. The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority also reported the contract in connection with the visit. Vietjet’s account of the signing provides the event details.
What the A321neo performance figures mean
Airbus describes the A321neo as offering 50% less noise and more than 20% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation single-aisle aircraft. These are Airbus’s comparative claims about the aircraft, not measured results for Vietjet’s operations. Airbus also says the aircraft can operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF); its stated goal of up to 100% SAF capability by 2030 is a target, not a present capability claim. Airbus’s order release gives these figures and qualifications.

The Rolls-Royce agreement is separate
In a related but distinct announcement, the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority reported that Vietjet signed an agreement with Rolls-Royce for 92 Trent 7000 engines, including comprehensive maintenance services, valued at US$3.8 billion. The authority said the engines are for Vietjet’s fleet of 40 A330neo aircraft. This is a separate widebody-aircraft engine and maintenance deal; it is not part of the 100 A321neo order or the 280-aircraft A321neo order total. The authority’s report covers both agreements.
