Verizon has not announced a blanket increase across every wireless plan. But selected older unlimited plans have reportedly risen by $4 per line, and a heavily advertised four-line promotion included a future $5-per-line increase. For families on legacy discounts or promotional pricing, that can materially change the bill.
The key is identifying whether your notice describes a permanent rate change, a promotion ending, or a discount or perk changing. Those are different events, with different alternatives and risks.
What Verizon price increase is actually confirmed?
Verizon support representatives said select older unlimited plans received an additional $4 per line beginning March 1, 2026. The same Verizon community notice described newer myPlan pricing as unchanged for that adjustment. Because the statement appeared in Verizon’s customer community rather than a formal rate-card announcement, customers should verify the exact plan and effective date on their own notice: Verizon’s support discussion.
This is not evidence that every Verizon customer is paying more. Verizon has a history of targeting older offers. Earlier discussions covered selected Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, Above Unlimited, 5G Start and Single Basic Phone plans, as well as 2024 increases affecting older Mix & Match and unlimited plans: 2023 Plan Rate Adjustment and 2024 rate discussion. Those are historical context, not proof of a new 2026 increase.

The separate $25-per-line promotion issue
A 2026 National Advertising Division decision described Verizon’s offer of four lines for $25 per line as including a future $5-per-line increase. NAD examined whether that increase was adequately disclosed; it did not decide that all Verizon plans could or would rise. Read the decision at BBB National Programs.

The NAD decision does not establish that every customer received the same promotional end date. Your offer terms or billing notice control that timing.
Are Verizon’s current “cheap” plans safe?
Promotional multi-line pricing
A low per-line figure can be an introductory or conditional price rather than a permanent base rate. A future increase written into the offer means the advertised price is not the long-term cost. Calculate the account total, not just the headline per-line number, and add taxes and fees.

Simplicity’s $30 price
Verizon’s current materials list Simplicity at $55 per line without Auto Pay and $45 with Auto Pay and paper-free billing for existing customers. Verizon advertises $30 per line for qualifying switchers after a $15-per-line switch discount and Auto Pay. Taxes and fees are extra. See the Simplicity FAQ and current unlimited plans.
Unless your account’s written terms say otherwise, treat $30 as a promotional switch price—not a guaranteed permanent base rate.
Verizon Prepaid
Verizon’s prepaid page currently shows an unlimited phone plan at $60 per month, with a $10 Auto Pay discount available on qualifying phone plans priced at $45 or more after the first month. It also advertises a three-year guarantee on the then-current base monthly rate. The guarantee excludes taxes, fees, surcharges, one-time charges, additional discounts, promotions and third-party services, and can be voided if a line is canceled or moved to an ineligible plan. Who is most exposed to a higher bill?
- Customers on grandfathered or other legacy unlimited plans.
- Families receiving unusually low per-line promotional pricing.
- Customers whose price depends on Auto Pay or paper-free billing.
- People using introductory switcher discounts.
- Accounts with included streaming, international, roaming or hotspot benefits that are no longer sold at the same price.
- Lines receiving device-payment credits tied to a specific plan.
- Multi-line accounts, where a per-line change multiplies across four or more lines.
What Simplicity includes—and what it does not
Verizon lists unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband data, unlimited talk and text, 10 GB of mobile hotspot data, talk, text and data in Mexico and Canada, satellite texting, Call Filter, Verizon Family, Verizon Dollars and up to 50% off connected-device plans. “Unlimited” therefore does not mean unlimited hotspot: the stated allowance is 10 GB. Taxes and fees are not included in the $30 or $45 access prices.
Existing customers can keep their current plan. Moving an account to Simplicity generally requires moving all lines to Simplicity, rather than changing only one line. Verizon says customers may switch back to Unlimited Ultimate, Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Welcome, but verify account-specific eligibility and whether the old discount, perk or promotion would still be available: Simplicity FAQ.

When staying is financially smarter
Remain on the current plan when the increase is modest and the plan includes benefits that would cost more to recreate. Compare the value of premium-data access, hotspot capacity, international service, entertainment perks, employer or loyalty discounts and remaining device credits. A cheaper access charge can be more expensive after those benefits disappear.

When switching could make sense
Simplicity may be worth considering if the post-increase legacy total exceeds the documented $45 Auto Pay rate, you need no grandfathered perks, 10 GB of hotspot is sufficient and every line can move together. Do not count the $15 switch discount beyond the period stated in your offer.
Prepaid may fit someone who wants a simpler bill and values a base-rate guarantee more than postpaid financing or premium account features. Verizon One combines mobile and home internet on one bill; Verizon describes its stated price as including taxes and fees. That bundle is mainly relevant to households already considering Verizon home internet: Verizon’s Simplicity and Verizon One explainer.
Independent providers such as Visible, T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Cricket, US Mobile and Mint Mobile are comparison candidates. Check their current taxes, data priority, hotspot rules, device financing and multi-line terms before relying on a quoted price.

- Write down the exact current plan name and the base charge for each line.
- List every Auto Pay, paperless, loyalty, employer, military, nurse, teacher and student discount.
- Inventory included subscriptions, hotspot, roaming, international and premium-data allowances.
- Record each device’s remaining payments and promotional bill credits.
- Calculate the new annual cost, including taxes, fees, add-ons and the duration of every discount.
- Confirm whether all account lines must move and whether the old plan can actually be restored.
- Save screenshots or PDFs of the offer and ask support for the exact effective date and affected lines.
Questions to ask Verizon after receiving a notice
- Is this a permanent base-rate change, a promotion ending, an Auto Pay change, a perk change, a device-credit change or a surcharge?
- Which specific lines are affected, and what is the exact effective date?
- What will the total monthly bill be after taxes, fees and all discounts?
- Will changing plans end any device credits, subscriptions, roaming benefits or legacy discounts?
- Is the quoted switch price guaranteed, and for how long?
Why Verizon’s “customer-first” strategy can still raise some bills
Verizon’s 2026 transformation launched Simplicity, Verizon One and Verizon Dollars, while also promising changes such as eliminating activation and upgrade fees. Verizon presents the strategy as a simpler customer experience, but its corporate announcement says the transformation is expected to contribute to revenue and EBITDA growth. Simplification and higher revenue per customer can therefore occur at the same time: Verizon’s announcement.
Bottom line for Verizon customers
The evidence supports targeted legacy-plan increases and fine-print increases in selected promotions—not a universal “steep hike” on every cheap plan. Before switching, determine whether your notice reflects a permanent rate change, a promotional expiration or a discount adjustment. Then compare the annual all-in cost and the benefits you would lose, not merely the advertised access price.
