Samsung’s $1,000 trade-in claim is real for the Galaxy Z Fold7, but it is a maximum promotional credit, not a guaranteed discount. Samsung announced up to $1,000 for the Fold7 at launch; the Galaxy Z Flip7 launched with a maximum of $600, and a later Samsung offers-page snapshot showed up to $570. Your actual credit depends on the exact phone, target model, promotion and condition.
What the $1,000 claim actually means
The credit is an instant Samsung purchase discount applied at checkout, not necessarily cash paid to you. Samsung’s current trade-in page advertises up to $1,000 for the Fold7, but the ceiling applies only to qualifying devices under the promotion then available. Samsung can change or end an offer, and promotions generally cannot be combined unless their terms expressly permit it. Check the live selector at Samsung’s trade-in page immediately before ordering.
The claim does not apply equally to both foldables. Samsung’s July 2025 launch announcement listed up to $1,000 for Fold7 and up to $600 for Flip7: Samsung newsroom announcement. A later Samsung offers-page snapshot displayed up to $570 for Flip7, illustrating why a headline maximum must be date-stamped: Samsung cell-phone offers.
Launch prices and best-case arithmetic
| Phone | U.S. launch starting price | Announced or observed maximum credit | Illustrative price after that maximum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold7 | $1,999.99 | Up to $1,000 | $999.99 |
| Galaxy Z Flip7 | $1,099.99 | Up to $600 at launch | $499.99 |
| Galaxy Z Flip7 | $1,099.99 | Up to $570 on a later offers-page snapshot | $529.99 |
These calculations use Samsung’s launch figures and are illustrations, not guaranteed checkout totals. Taxes, accessories, financing costs, storage upgrades and carrier obligations are separate. Samsung’s September 2025 MSRP sheet lists higher storage tiers, including Fold7 at $2,119.99 for 512GB and $2,419.99 for 1TB, and Flip7 at $1,219.99 for 512GB: Samsung MSRP sheet.

How to see your exact trade-in value
- Open the Fold7 or Flip7 purchase flow on Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung app: Fold7 buying page or Flip7 buying page.
- Select the precise brand, model, storage capacity and carrier version of your old device.
- Answer every condition question accurately, including power, display, damage, locks and ownership.
- Review the quoted instant credit and promotion terms before checkout. Save a screenshot showing the quote and date.
- Compare the resulting net price with a carrier offer and the likely private-sale proceeds.
Samsung does not maintain a permanent public table covering every eligible phone and value. The interactive quote is the authoritative amount for that transaction.
Which devices Samsung may accept
Samsung’s U.S. program can include smartphones, tablets, PCs, watches and Galaxy Buds, including selected non-Samsung products. Eligible models and values change by target phone and promotion, so an iPhone, Galaxy S model or older foldable has no reliable universal value without a live quote.

- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
Condition rules that can reduce the credit to $0
- The device must power on, hold a charge and avoid unexpected shutdowns.
- The display and essential functions must work, with no prohibited physical or liquid damage.
- It must not be blacklisted and must have a verified FCC ID for the U.S. program.
- You must own it outright. Remaining installment balances generally must be paid, and a leased phone is generally ineligible unless you purchase it first under the carrier’s arrangement.
- Apple Activation Lock, Google protection, Samsung account locks and other software locks must be removed.
- Cracked phones are not automatically eligible. A cracked-device credit applies only when Samsung explicitly identifies that model and condition in the active offer.
Samsung direct credit, carrier credits or private sale?
| Option | How value is delivered | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung direct trade-in | Immediate discount at checkout | Simple and useful for unlocked purchases, but the quote can be below resale value and a later rejection can trigger a charge. |
| Carrier promotion | Usually monthly bill credits, often beginning within one to three billing cycles after acceptance | May produce a larger headline total, but commonly requires an eligible plan, installment agreement and staying for the full credit period. Samsung says carrier credits and its instant credit cannot be combined. |
| Private resale | Payment from a buyer after listing and completing a sale | Can beat Samsung’s quote, especially for an unlocked, clean device, but requires listing, shipping, buyer communication and fraud or return risk. |
Compare total economic value: the Samsung quote, taxes and remaining device balance; the carrier’s total credits minus any required plan or early-exit cost; and a realistic private-sale price after fees and effort. Carrier-specific terms must be checked with the carrier because they are not established by Samsung’s program.
Ship the old phone without losing data or the credit
- Back up the old phone and transfer data with Smart Switch, a cable, cloud backup or another supported method. Samsung’s Smart Switch information is at Samsung Smart Switch.
- After receiving the new phone, activate it and confirm that contacts, photos, messages, authenticator access and other essential data are available.
- Sign out of Apple, Google and Samsung accounts; disable activation or device-finding locks.
- Remove the SIM and microSD card. Samsung may not return cards left in the package.
- Remove cases and accessories unless the instructions say otherwise, then factory-reset the old device.
- Photograph the phone’s condition, serial or IMEI and the packed box for your records.
- Use Samsung’s supplied label and send the device within 15 days of receiving the new phone. Keep the receipt, tracking number and acceptance confirmation.
If Samsung rejects the trade-in
Samsung can assign a $0 value or charge back the instant credit if the device is ineligible, materially different from the declared condition, or arrives late. Under Samsung’s stated terms, you generally have seven days after a rejection notice to request a free return. A rejected phone with a swollen or otherwise unsafe battery may not be returnable because it cannot safely be shipped.

Sending a different device can invalidate the quote; Samsung’s FAQ describes a one-device-per-box rule. If you simply keep the old phone, Samsung can charge the credit back and, approximately 15 days after delivery, may charge the original payment method for the applicable retail amount. If the old phone has already been accepted and you later return the new Samsung phone, the accepted trade-in generally cannot be recovered and its credit is not refunded separately. Practical buying checklist
- Confirm whether the current quote is for Fold7 or Flip7; never assume the Fold7 ceiling applies to Flip7.
- Verify the exact storage, carrier status and condition of the old phone.
- Separate the trade-in discount from taxes, accessories, financing and required service plans.
- Check whether a carrier’s larger total requires 24 or 36 months of service and what happens if you leave early.
- Price a private sale only after accounting for fees, shipping, time and fraud risk.
- Check inventory and configuration availability on Samsung’s Fold7 and Flip7 pages; stock can change.
- For foldable repair-risk protection, review Samsung Care+ terms, deductibles and timing at Samsung Care+; coverage does not increase trade-in value.
