Verizon scheduled its Monthly Rewards to end on May 1, 2022, and told customers to use remaining Device Dollars by June 30, 2022. The change removed the program’s most tangible rewards; Verizon’s current loyalty benefits are split across Verizon Dollars, Verizon Shine and myAccess.
What Verizon Up offered—and what changed
Verizon Up was a customer-rewards program with a mix of account-dependent offers. Its most concrete benefits included Monthly Rewards, which could include gift-card-style rewards, and Device Dollars that customers could put toward Verizon devices. The program also featured Super Tickets, presale opportunities, anniversary offers and TravelPass-related benefits. Not every member received the same offers.
On March 9, 2022, Verizon announced a substantial redesign. The changes targeted the rewards with the clearest dollar value: Monthly Rewards and Device Dollars. Droid Life’s report on the announcement said Verizon described the replacement as a new experience, but the full structure was not clear in the initial communication.
The 2022 deadline timeline

Those were transition deadlines in 2022, not current redemption dates. Device Dollars were a legacy reward currency; they are not the same as today’s Verizon Dollars.

Why the lost rewards felt more valuable to some customers
A gift card or device credit has a stated value and a clear use. The other kinds of benefits Verizon highlighted can still be attractive, but their value is less certain:
- Direct value: A claimed gift card or device credit could be measured against a purchase.
- Conditional value: A discount may require an eligible account, plan or purchase.
- Chance-based value: A giveaway or drawing offers a possibility of winning, not a guaranteed reward.
- Limited-availability value: Presale access may help a customer try to buy tickets, but does not promise tickets, inventory or a lower price.
That difference explains why the change could feel like a downgrade to members who valued predictable rewards. It does not mean every customer values the newer offers less.

What benefits Verizon said would continue
The 2022 reporting identified Super Tickets, presales, anniversary offers and TravelPass access among the benefits that would continue or survive the transition. A continuing category does not guarantee the same offer, eligibility or availability a member previously had. In particular, ticket access is not a promise of inventory, and TravelPass offers have their own terms.
How Verizon’s current loyalty benefits work
Verizon’s present-day loyalty materials describe several separate offerings rather than one direct replacement with identical terms. Current program details are subject to change and vary by account and offer.

Verizon Dollars: measurable, but not unrestricted cash
Verizon says eligible customers can earn 3% back each month on a qualifying Verizon Mobile bill when they enroll and pay the full bill on time. Its Verizon Dollars FAQs describe redemptions that can include phones, tablets, smartwatches, accessories, participating merchants’ gift cards and hotels through Verizon Travel. Certain bill-credit options are available to Verizon Visa cardholders.
Eligibility depends on service and account status. Verizon’s current support information says standard monthly mobile plans and Verizon Wireless Home Internet may qualify, while prepaid services and Verizon Fios Home Internet are excluded. Verizon Dollars are redeemed through Verizon’s systems and are not equivalent to unrestricted cash. Check the FAQ for current account-specific earning, redemption and inactivity terms.

Verizon Shine: drops, giveaways and experiences
Verizon’s loyalty page describes Verizon Shine with daily drops, giveaways that may include gift cards or merchandise, weekly opportunities to win experiences, and ticket or presale access. These are promotional opportunities, not a guaranteed monthly gift card or device credit; offers and availability can vary.
myAccess: personalized deals and anniversary offers
Verizon’s myAccess FAQs describe personalized offers, Anytime Deals, Local Passes, presale tickets and select seats, and anniversary offers. Eligibility generally calls for a qualifying Verizon mobile account in good standing, a smartphone, U.S. residency and an account holder who is at least 18; the specific terms govern each offer. The FAQs say claimed offers may expire 30–60 days after claiming, depending on the reward.
TravelPass: a separate plan perk, not a blanket free benefit
TravelPass terms are separate from the old Verizon Up reward and depend on the eligible plan. Verizon’s TravelPass perk terms describe an option costing $10 per month that provides three TravelPass days per month on certain plans. Days can accrue up to 36 and expire after 12 months. This is a paid, plan-specific option, not free international roaming for every Verizon customer.

Who may find the current benefits useful?
- Customers who wanted flexible gift cards: The retirement of Monthly Rewards removed a more direct, easy-to-value benefit. Current partner gift-card redemptions through Verizon Dollars have different eligibility and redemption rules.
- Customers who regularly buy Verizon devices: Verizon Dollars may provide measurable value if the account qualifies and the customer uses eligible redemptions.
- Frequent international travelers: A qualifying TravelPass option may be useful, but compare its fee, day limits and plan eligibility with other travel arrangements.
- Concert and sports fans: Presales and experiences can be worthwhile if available, but access does not guarantee a ticket or savings.
- Prepaid customers: Verizon’s current Verizon Dollars FAQ excludes prepaid service, so do not assume the monthly reward applies.
- Fios-only customers: Verizon’s current FAQ excludes Fios Home Internet from Verizon Dollars eligibility. myAccess eligibility and access can differ, so check its terms rather than assuming all loyalty offers are unavailable.
- Verizon Visa cardholders: The card may add earning or redemption options, but assess it as a credit product on its own terms, not as a free loyalty benefit.
How to assess Verizon rewards against your bill
A reward should not determine whether a wireless plan is affordable. Compare its value with the full cost and terms of service, and count only benefits you are likely to use.

- Confirm eligibility. Review the Verizon Dollars FAQs and the terms for the specific Shine, myAccess or TravelPass offer. Plan type, account status and payment history can matter.
- Separate earned value from promotional chances. Treat eligible Verizon Dollars as a defined reward subject to redemption rules. Do not count a drawing, giveaway or presale as guaranteed savings.
- Check redemption fit. Ask whether you would naturally buy an eligible device, accessory, travel booking or partner reward. A restricted reward is worth less to you if you would not use its available categories.
- Review dates and conditions in My Verizon. Look in the app or account for Loyalty, Verizon Dollars, Shine and myAccess, then read the offer’s expiration and claiming terms. myAccess offers may expire 30–60 days after claiming, depending on the reward.
- Compare total service costs. Weigh the plan’s monthly cost, taxes and fees, device financing, travel needs and likely reward redemptions. Do not pay substantially more for service on the assumption that uncertain promotions will make up the difference.
