Verizon Mobile Protect is a bundled phone-protection plan, not just an extended warranty. It combines Wireless Phone Protection for loss, theft and accidental damage; Verizon Extended Warranty for eligible post-warranty malfunctions; and Mobile Secure for technical support, optimization and security tools.
The plan can make sense for owners of expensive phones who want to transfer the financial risk of loss or damage. It is less compelling if you have an inexpensive phone, already carry manufacturer coverage, rarely make claims or can comfortably replace the device yourself. Exact pricing, deductibles, eligibility and benefits vary by device, account and state, so verify the offer shown in Verizon’s current terms before enrolling or cancelling.
What Verizon Mobile Protect includes
Mobile Protect has three distinct components. Understanding which component handles a particular problem is more useful than treating the plan as one catch-all policy.
| Problem | Likely benefit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Lost phone | Wireless Phone Protection | Covered claims generally involve a device-specific deductible. |
| Stolen phone | Wireless Phone Protection | Deductibles and documentation requirements vary. |
| Accidental damage | Wireless Phone Protection | Repair or replacement depends on eligibility and inspection. |
| Eligible cracked screen | Repair benefit | Some qualifying repairs have a $0 deductible. |
| Back-glass damage | Repair benefit | Eligibility differs by model, damage and repair availability. |
| Post-warranty defect | Extended Warranty | This is different from accidental-damage insurance. |
| Battery problem | Warranty benefit, where eligible | Normal battery aging is not automatically covered. |
| Setup or troubleshooting | Mobile Secure and Tech Coach | Support does not replace a lost or damaged phone. |
| Security and privacy assistance | Mobile Secure | Tools do not guarantee protection from every scam, malware or identity-theft event. |
| Data recovery | Applicable protection benefit | Availability depends on the circumstances and current terms. |
| Same-day delivery or setup | Pro On the Go | Only available in qualifying situations and locations. |
Verizon describes Mobile Protect’s combination of insurance, warranty and support benefits in its Mobile Protect FAQ.

Loss, theft and accidental damage
The insurance portion is intended for events such as losing your phone, having it stolen, dropping it or suffering other eligible physical damage. An approved claim may result in a repair or a replacement.
Do not assume every broken screen is repaired for free. Verizon’s comparison materials describe $0 deductibles for qualifying cracked-screen or back-glass repairs, while an eligible damage replacement can involve a $99 deductible. Loss and theft deductibles can be substantially higher and vary by phone model, storage capacity and claim type. Check the exact amount through the Verizon claims site before relying on a quoted figure.
Post-warranty malfunctions
Extended Warranty is designed for eligible mechanical or electrical malfunctions after the manufacturer’s warranty ends. It is not the same as accidental-damage coverage:
- A phone that stops working because of an eligible defect is a warranty question.
- A phone damaged by a drop, liquid or crushing is generally an accidental-damage insurance question.
- A battery that has naturally lost capacity may not qualify as a covered malfunction.
Battery service depends on the device, state, warranty status and nature of the problem. Do not purchase Mobile Protect after a battery problem or accident and expect retroactive coverage.
Screen and back-glass repairs
For eligible devices, Mobile Protect may provide cracked-screen or back-glass repair with no deductible. Repairs are performed by an Asurion-certified technician, and Verizon’s product information describes a 12-month limited warranty for those repairs.
Front-screen and back-glass eligibility may differ. Parts, technician availability, location and the extent of the damage can also affect whether repair is offered. If repair is impractical, the claim process may provide a replacement instead.

Replacement phones
An approved claim does not necessarily produce a brand-new, identical retail phone. The outcome can depend on inventory, approval, location and technician availability. The applicable terms may provide a comparable repaired or replacement device rather than the same color, storage capacity or retail-new model.
Verizon also advertises Pro On the Go, which can include same-day delivery and setup in qualifying situations. Same-day service is not guaranteed everywhere or for every claim.
Mobile Secure and technical support
Mobile Secure is the service and security portion of the bundle. Verizon describes benefits including 24/7 premium technical support for select smartphones, setup and troubleshooting help, device optimization and digital-security and privacy tools. Its Mobile Secure FAQs explain the current features and compatibility requirements.
These services may be useful even when your phone is working normally, but they do not insure the device. A security app cannot guarantee that you will avoid fraud, malware, scams or identity theft.
How much Verizon Mobile Protect costs
Verizon’s current listed single-device price is generally $16 or $19 per month, depending on the device. Taxes and surcharges are extra. Multi-device pricing is listed as follows:
| Eligible lines | Listed monthly price |
|---|---|
| 2 lines | $38 |
| 3 lines | $57 |
| 4 to 20 lines | $68 |
These are price signals, not universal quotes. The amount displayed in My Verizon can vary by device, account and state. Verizon says multi-device plans also have registration rules; registrations may reset after 12 months without a claim. Review the current terms before assuming every line has identical coverage or unlimited replacement eligibility.

The real cost of a claim
Use this formula:
Total cost = premiums already paid + applicable deductible or service fee + uncovered charges.
For example, a qualifying screen repair may cost no deductible, while replacing a damaged phone may involve $99. Replacing a lost or stolen high-end phone can involve a much larger device-specific deductible. The consumer device-protection brochure provides deductible tiers, but the current claim system is the best place to confirm the amount for your exact phone.
Also account for premiums paid during the time you owned the plan. A $19 monthly plan costs $228 over one year before taxes, and a claim deductible is still due when the benefit requires one.
Who can enroll?
Eligibility is not universal. Verizon says customers can check it in My Verizon, and prepaid accounts are not eligible for Verizon Mobile Protect. Certain bring-your-own-device and Verizon-purchased devices may also be excluded.

How to file a Verizon Mobile Protect claim
- Confirm enrollment. Check that the affected line and the correct device IMEI are protected.
- Record the incident. Gather your phone number, device details, account information and a description of what happened.
- Start the claim. Use Verizon’s official claim route, which connects to the applicable claims process.
- Select the incident type. Choose damage, loss, theft, malfunction or repair as appropriate.
- Complete verification and pay any deductible. The amount depends on the benefit and device.
- Follow fulfillment instructions. You may receive repair instructions, a shipment, a replacement or a technician appointment.
- Back up and erase the phone when instructed. Do not erase a device before confirming what the claim process requires.
- Return equipment when required. Keep shipping receipts and tracking information.
Asurion is involved in claims, repair and fulfillment for Verizon’s protection programs. Its general claims information is useful, but Verizon Mobile Protect terms—not a generic Asurion plan—control your coverage.
If the phone was lost or stolen
- Use Apple Find My or Google Find My Device if available.
- Suspend the line if necessary.
- Change important passwords if someone may access the phone.
- Report the theft or loss to Verizon and file promptly.
- Do not remove tracking or device-management protections unless the claim instructions tell you to.
- Keep police-report information if it is requested; a police report is not necessarily required for every claim.
If the phone is damaged
Back up your data and photograph the damage. Stop using a phone with a swollen battery, exposed components, severe liquid intrusion or unusual heat. Do not send it for repair before receiving instructions, and ask whether repair or replacement is the correct route.

- Ask for the specific exclusion or eligibility reason.
- Verify that the correct IMEI is attached to the protected line.
- Confirm that the incident occurred after enrollment.
- Review the terms applicable to your state.
- Ask whether the issue belongs under Wireless Phone Protection, Extended Warranty or Mobile Secure.
- Use Verizon or Asurion’s formal customer-support or appeal process.
- Keep claim numbers, screenshots, receipts and shipment records.
What Mobile Protect does not automatically cover
- Pre-existing damage: Damage that existed before enrollment is generally not covered.
- Cosmetic wear: Scratches, dents, discoloration and ordinary wear may not qualify unless they affect covered functionality.
- Normal battery aging: Capacity decline is not automatically an eligible warranty defect.
- Every device: Eligibility depends on the phone, account and enrollment conditions.
- Every location: Repair, replacement and same-day service depend on supported locations and inventory.
- Every claim at $0: Loss, theft and many replacement claims carry deductibles.
- Unlimited free replacements: “Unlimited claims” is subject to registered-line, multi-device, device and plan rules.
Liquid damage also requires caution. It may be treated differently depending on the device, inspection, repairability and applicable terms. International claims, repairs and replacements should be verified separately; do not assume U.S. benefits or same-day service apply worldwide.
State-specific rules matter. Verizon identifies special treatment for post-warranty malfunctions in Florida, while New York customers may see different pricing or coverage terms. Insurance and service-contract rules can vary by state.
Verizon Mobile Protect compared with cheaper Verizon options
| Option | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless Phone Protection | Loss, theft and accidental damage | Does not provide the full warranty and Mobile Secure bundle. |
| Extended Warranty | Post-warranty malfunctions | Generally is not a substitute for loss, theft and accidental-damage protection. |
| Mobile Secure | Technical support, optimization and security tools | Does not replace a lost or broken phone. |
| Total Equipment Coverage | Readers seeking a different Verizon protection combination | Compare its exact benefits, price and deductible with Mobile Protect before switching. |
Verizon lists approximate signals of $7.95 per month for Wireless Phone Protection, $4.15 for Extended Warranty and $6.90 for Mobile Secure for many devices, but device and state variation applies. A lower premium is useful only if it covers the risk you actually care about.

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss
For an iPhone owner who prefers Apple’s support and repair ecosystem, AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is a direct alternative. Apple’s current materials list $29 service fees for screen or back-glass damage, $99 for other accidental damage and $149 for theft or loss. Theft-and-loss claims require Find My to be enabled. Fees, plan pricing, limits and enrollment rules vary by model and purchase date. See Apple’s deductible schedule and legal terms.

Samsung Care+
Samsung Care+ with Theft and Loss is designed for eligible Galaxy devices and uses Samsung-certified technicians and genuine Samsung parts. Samsung says pricing depends on the device’s manufacturer suggested retail price and describes coverage for accidental damage, mechanical breakdown and up to three lost, stolen or unrecoverable claims in a consecutive 12-month period. Details are in Samsung’s Care+ information and FAQs.
Google Preferred Care
Google Preferred Care may suit Pixel owners who prefer Google’s device-support ecosystem. Availability, pricing and claims arrangements depend on the Pixel model and current offer. Check Google’s current Preferred Care information.
Self-insuring
Self-insurance means keeping the monthly premium in savings and paying for repairs or replacement yourself. It can be sensible for a low-cost phone, a low-risk owner or someone with enough emergency savings to absorb a sudden loss. The trade-off is that there is no insurer or claims administrator sharing the risk.
Is Verizon Mobile Protect worth it?
Use the plan when the protection and convenience justify the combined premium and likely deductible—not simply because the phone is new.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
It may fit if you:
- Own an expensive phone that would be difficult to replace.
- Have a meaningful risk of loss, theft or accidental damage.
- Want one Verizon-billed plan across several eligible lines.
- Value qualifying $0 screen repair or in-person assistance.
- Want technical support and security tools in addition to insurance.
- Could not comfortably pay several hundred dollars after losing a phone.
It may not fit if you:
- Own an inexpensive or nearly obsolete phone.
- Already have AppleCare+, Samsung Care+, another protection plan or strong coverage through another source.
- Mainly want post-warranty defect protection.
- Already receive equivalent technical-support and security services elsewhere.
- Have a reliable case, low claim risk and enough savings to replace the device.
- Would pay premiums and a deductible approaching the phone’s current replacement cost.
For a practical comparison, find your phone’s current replacement price, screen-repair price without insurance, exact loss/theft deductible, remaining time you expect to own it and any manufacturer coverage. Then compare the likely uninsured cost—repair or replacement multiplied by your realistic risk—with premiums plus the applicable deductible. This is a budgeting framework, not a prediction of whether you will make a claim.
Before you keep, cancel or enroll: a checklist
- Check the exact monthly price in My Verizon.
- Confirm the protected device’s IMEI.
- Look up separate deductibles for screen repair, damage replacement, loss and theft.
- Confirm whether your model qualifies for back-glass repair, battery service or same-day help.
- Check whether the phone is still under its manufacturer warranty.
- Compare AppleCare+, Samsung Care+ or Google Preferred Care if applicable.
- Calculate premiums for the period you expect to keep the phone.
- Review multi-device registration rules if covering a family account.
- Read state-specific terms, particularly if you are in Florida or New York.
- Keep claim records and return instructions if you have already filed.
Canceling after an approved claim does not necessarily erase a deductible or other obligation connected with that claim. The effect depends on the plan terms.
