Recent reports describe offers such as 25% off for six or 12 months, or $10 to $20 off per line each month. Results vary by account, plan, previous discounts and Verizon’s retention decisions.
The tactic can be worth trying if you would genuinely consider leaving Verizon. The safest approach is to generate the PIN through Verizon’s normal port-out process, keep it private, and then check My Verizon or contact support for a documented offer. Do not provide the PIN to another carrier unless you actually intend to transfer your number.
What the Verizon “loyalty discount trick” actually is
A Number Transfer PIN authorizes a carrier transfer; it does not itself reduce your bill. Verizon’s official instructions say customers can create one in My Verizon or by dialing #PORT, and that it remains valid for seven days. The PIN can authorize the transfer of some or all lines on the account. See Verizon’s Number Transfer PIN and port-out instructions.
The reported sequence is:
- Generate a Number Transfer PIN.
- Verizon’s systems may interpret the activity as a possible departure signal.
- A targeted retention offer may appear in My Verizon or become available through customer service.
- Review the offer’s terms before accepting it.
Verizon does not publicly document the PIN as a discount trigger. It is more accurate to call this a possible retention signal than a loophole, hack or guaranteed program.

Does the trick still work?
Sometimes. Customer reports from 2026 include successful offers, failed attempts and cases requiring a manual loyalty-team review. One recent report described 25% off for six months without changing plans. Other reports describe 12-month offers and fixed discounts of $10 or $20 per line per month. These are anecdotal examples, not standard Verizon pricing.
Some customers also report receiving another offer after an earlier loyalty discount expired. Others say the offer disappeared or the process stopped working. Verizon may change its targeting rules, and an account that receives an offer today is not evidence that every account will receive one.
Examples are discussed in recent customer reports, reports of fixed per-line discounts and reports of failed attempts and manual reviews.
How to try it without accidentally porting out
1. Document your current bill
Save a PDF or screenshot of the latest bill. Record:

- Every current discount and its expiration date.
- Device-payment balances and trade-in credits.
- Insurance, perks, add-ons, taxes and fees.
- Any home-internet or multiline bundle savings.
Also decide whether you would realistically compare another carrier or Verizon prepaid service. Do not threaten to leave if you are unwilling to follow through.
2. Generate the Number Transfer PIN
From the phone associated with the Verizon number, dial #PORT, or use the Number Transfer PIN option in My Verizon. Verizon says the PIN expires after seven days.
Generating the PIN alone does not transfer your number. A new carrier generally needs the PIN and your Verizon account information to start the transfer. Keep both private. Do not give the PIN to an unsolicited caller, text-message sender or online contact.
3. Look for an offer
Open My Verizon and review account notifications, personalized offers and any loyalty or retention messages. The app’s labels and layout can change, so do not assume the offer must appear under a menu specifically called “Loyalty Discount.” It may instead be an account notification or an adjustment applied by an agent.
Check again later rather than assuming an offer will appear immediately. If nothing appears, contact Verizon through an official customer-service channel and ask whether the account has a current loyalty or retention offer. Do not repeatedly initiate transfer activity simply to force a response.
Reported savings—and what they may really mean
Customer-reported examples include:
- 25% off for six months.
- 25% off for 12 months.
- $10 per line per month.
- $20 per line per month.
These figures may apply only to eligible service charges. They may not reduce taxes, fees, device installments, insurance, perks, add-ons or every line on the account.
For example, a 25% discount on a $200 monthly eligible plan charge would equal $50 per month, or $300 over six months. That is an illustration—not a promise that Verizon will discount your entire $200 bill or offer those terms.
The relevant calculation is:
True monthly savings = old eligible service price − new eligible service price

Compare the resulting bill, not just the advertised percentage.
Verify the offer before accepting it
Ask Verizon to confirm the details in writing or ensure they are documented in the account. Specifically ask:
- Is the discount a percentage or a fixed dollar amount?
- Which lines qualify?
- Does it apply to service only, or also to perks and add-ons?
- Does it stack with Auto Pay and paper-free billing?
- Does it replace an existing employer, military, teacher, nurse, student or first-responder discount?
- Does it work with a mobile-and-home bundle?
- Will changing plans, adding a line or upgrading a device cancel it?
- What exact date does it begin and expire?
- Is it recurring each month or a one-time credit?
- When should it appear on the bill?
Verizon’s general discount directory, Friends and Family information and Switcher Discount FAQ show that eligibility and combination rules vary. They do not establish universal terms for targeted retention offers.
The biggest catch: the discount expires
A six- or 12-month discount can make a bill look permanently affordable when it is only temporarily lower. Set a calendar reminder for 30 days before the expiration date. Save the confirmation, inspect the first discounted bill and recalculate your options before the regular price returns.

If the bill then returns to $200, the post-expiration price—not the temporary $150 price—is the amount to use when deciding whether to stay.
Do not assume Verizon will automatically renew the offer. Some customers report receiving another discount, but renewal is not guaranteed.

Protect device credits and grandfathered benefits
Changing plans to obtain or preserve a discount can cost more than the discount itself. Trade-in promotions and device credits may require a qualifying plan for the full promotional term. Review Verizon’s device-deal requirements and device-rebate guidance before changing plans.
Be especially careful if you have:
- Unfinished trade-in or promotional device credits.
- A grandfathered plan with valuable included perks.
- Several lines with different promotion requirements.
- A pending upgrade or new-line promotion.
Ask Verizon to explain exactly what will happen to each credit before accepting a plan change. An agent’s verbal assurance is not enough if the offer is not documented.
What if no offer appears?
No offer may mean the account is not targeted, a recent retention discount has not fully cleared, the plan is ineligible, the system is changing or the offer requires manual review. Wait through the PIN’s seven-day validity period, continue monitoring My Verizon and then ask support whether a retention offer is available.
If an agent promises a discount, request the amount, eligible lines, start date, expiration date and account documentation. Check the next bill promptly. If the credit is missing, contact Verizon before assuming the promise was applied.

On June 16, 2026, Verizon announced a formal loyalty program that includes Verizon Dollars and Verizon Shine. This program is separate from the targeted retention discounts reported by customers.
According to Verizon’s Verizon Dollars FAQ and program terms, eligible customers can receive 3% back on eligible Verizon Mobile bills. Non-Verizon Visa customers generally must enroll through My Verizon, keep the account in good standing and pay the bill in full and on time. The rewards can be used for listed redemptions such as devices, accessories, gift cards and travel-related rewards. They generally expire after 12 months for customers who do not hold a Verizon Visa Card, cannot be sold or transferred and have no cash value.

That is not the same as an immediate 3% cash discount on every bill. Redemption restrictions and expiration rules affect the reward’s practical value. Verizon Shine provides experiences, promotions, giveaways and partner offers through My Verizon; it is not a monthly service-price reduction. See Verizon’s Shine FAQ and loyalty page.
Compare alternatives before the offer expires
A cheaper Verizon plan
A permanent or longer-lasting plan reduction may beat a temporary retention credit. Check what happens to included perks, hotspot access, premium data, international benefits and device credits before switching.
Verizon prepaid
Eligible Verizon prepaid plans may offer loyalty, Auto Pay and multiline discounts. Prepaid can be a more predictable savings route when the retention offer fails or expires. However, do not assume it preserves postpaid device credits, perks, account features or promotional terms. Review Verizon’s prepaid discount information.
Switch & Save
Verizon’s Switch & Save offer is for eligible lines coming from a qualifying competitor, not generally for an existing Verizon customer seeking to renew a loyalty discount. Compare the full cost of service, taxes, device obligations, coverage, hotspot limits, international features and lost credits. The right comparison is the Verizon bill after the retention offer expires—not merely the discounted introductory bill.
Safety checklist
- Save your current bill and promotion details.
- Generate the PIN only through My Verizon or #PORT.
- Never share the PIN unless you are actually porting out.
- Watch for phishing texts and fraudulent calls.
- Do not cancel Verizon before a genuine port completes.
- Confirm the offer’s terms in your account.
- Check device-credit requirements before changing plans.
- Set a reminder before the discount expires.
Bottom line
The Verizon Number Transfer PIN tactic still appears to save some customers money in 2026, but it works selectively. Treat any resulting offer as a temporary, account-specific retention deal—not a guaranteed benefit. Accept it only after comparing the documented discounted bill, the normal post-expiration price, device credits and cheaper Verizon or competitor alternatives.
