MacRumors reported on August 1, 2025, citing Verizon customer emails, that the gaming benefits would end no later than September 22, 2025. The notices reportedly also covered several account and line-level discounts.
The exact effect depended on each customer’s plan, line and notice. Some customers may have lost only an entertainment benefit; others may also have lost a $10 or $15 monthly credit or another legacy discount. Your Verizon notice and bills—not the general headline—determine what changed on your account.

What Verizon changed
The reported change involved several separate benefits. They should not be treated as one universal price increase because eligibility and effective dates could differ.

MacRumors reported these details from customer emails. The report did not establish that every Verizon customer—or every customer on a legacy plan—lost every listed benefit.

Who was affected?
The change primarily concerned customers on older Verizon plans that included entertainment benefits or legacy loyalty credits. A newer-plan customer who never had Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass or one of the listed credits may not have been affected at all.
Look for a notice that identifies one or more of the following:
- an affected phone line;
- the name of your legacy plan;
- a specific loyalty discount or account credit;
- Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass;
- a stated removal date.
Do not assume that a tablet, smartwatch or connected-device discount ended simply because another loyalty benefit did. Related discounts may have had separate rules, and should be treated as affected only if your individual notice or bill says so.

- August 1, 2025: MacRumors published its report based on Verizon customer emails.
- September 1, 2025: The earliest date reportedly stated for removing certain discounts.
- September 22, 2025: The reported deadline for Apple Arcade and Google Play Pass access to disappear.
Those dates are historical as of September 2026. If you are seeing a new notice now, treat it as a separate, account-specific communication and check the effective date printed in that notice.
How much could your bill increase?
There was no single increase. Calculate each lost item separately:
- Lost $10 Verizon loyalty discount: up to $10 more per month, or $120 per year.
- Lost $10 account credit: up to $10 more per month, or $120 per year.
- Lost $15 account credit: up to $15 more per month, or $180 per year.
- Lost Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass: the replacement subscription cost, if you choose to replace it.
- Lost plan-specific discounts: an additional amount shown on your bill.
Do not add every figure automatically. One account may not have received all of these benefits, and a credit may have applied once to the account rather than once per line. A customer could lose a $15 account credit without losing a line-level discount, or lose Apple Arcade while keeping another Verizon perk.

MacRumors reported in August 2025 that Verizon offered Apple One through Verizon for $15 per month and Apple Music for $10 per month. Those were reported 2025 prices, not guaranteed current Verizon prices.

How to check what happened to your account
- Find the original notice. Search email, Verizon messages and saved mail for the benefit or credit name.
- Identify the affected item. Record the line, plan, discount, credit and stated end date.
- Compare bills. Compare the last bill before the effective date with the first bill after it.
- Review your Verizon account. Check the dashboard for active perks, discounts and account credits. Labels and menu paths can change, so rely on the descriptions shown in your account.
- Check outside billing. Confirm whether Apple Arcade is billed through Verizon, Apple or an Apple Family Sharing organizer. Check Google Play separately for Play Pass billing.
- Recalculate the annual cost. Multiply the recurring monthly change by 12 and include any replacement subscriptions, taxes, fees and device charges.
- Save documentation. Keep screenshots or PDFs of the notice and the relevant bills before changing plans.
What happens to Apple Arcade games?
Verizon was reportedly ending its bundled entitlement; Apple Arcade itself remains available as a separate Apple subscription. Apple says that after an Apple Arcade subscription is canceled, downloaded Apple Arcade games cannot be played merely because they remain installed. Apple also says gameplay data may be recoverable if you resubscribe, but warns that some data may not remain supported if too much time passes. See Apple’s subscription guidance.
That is different from:
- games purchased separately from the App Store;
- in-app purchases in non-Arcade games;
- a separately purchased version of a game; and
- an Apple Arcade entitlement supplied through another family member’s Apple subscription.
Apple describes Apple Arcade as offering more than 200 premium, ad-free games, although availability varies by region, device and software compatibility. Check Apple’s Arcade eligibility and support information for your devices.
Replacement options
Subscribe to Apple Arcade directly
This is generally the narrowest replacement if you want the Arcade catalog but do not need Apple Music, Apple TV or additional iCloud+ storage. Verify Apple’s live price before subscribing because standard prices and promotions can change.
Use Apple One
Apple’s U.S. Apple One page lists the following monthly prices:

- Individual: $19.95 per month.
- Family: $27.95 per month.
- Premier: $39.95 per month.
Apple One includes Apple Arcade. Apple says Family and Premier can be shared with up to five additional family members, while Apple Arcade and Apple TV include Family Sharing even with the Individual plan. Apple One can make sense when the household already pays for several included services; it is poor value if you want only occasional games.

Join an existing family subscription
If a family member already organizes Apple Family Sharing and pays for Apple Arcade or Apple One, you may be able to use the benefit without adding another subscription. This works only when the relevant Apple Accounts are in the same family group and the organizer’s plan supports the service.
Buy individual games—or replace nothing
If you regularly play only one or two titles, buying those games separately may cost less than maintaining a recurring subscription, where an equivalent version is available. If you rarely use Arcade, allowing the benefit to end may be the financially sensible choice.

Avoid duplicate billing
Do not cancel an existing Apple subscription simply because Verizon’s entitlement is ending, and do not sign up through Apple without checking which service is currently active. The two billing systems are not automatically interchangeable.
For an Apple-billed subscription, Apple’s iPhone path is:
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Apple Arcade or Apple One.
- Follow the cancellation instructions if cancellation is appropriate.
Apple says cancellation ends access to Apple Arcade games, including downloaded games. First confirm the Verizon entitlement’s actual expiration and identify the Apple Account being used. Apple also provides guidance on switching Apple subscriptions. Check Google Play’s subscription screen separately if Play Pass is involved.

Should you move to a newer Verizon plan?
Verizon encouraged affected customers to consider newer myPlan options, according to the 2025 report. That does not make switching automatically cheaper. A newer base-plan-and-perk structure may cost more or less depending on your lines and usage, and moving away from a legacy plan may permanently remove features that cannot be restored.
Use this worksheet:

+ taxes and fees
+ device and connected-device charges
= future monthly totalBefore changing plans, compare:
- the base price for every line;
- Auto Pay and paperless-billing requirements;
- taxes and fees;
- premium-data and hotspot limits;
- international service;
- device-payment obligations;
- insurance, watch and tablet lines;
- remaining loyalty, employer, military, nurse, teacher or student discounts;
- promotional pricing and its expiration date; and
- which old features cannot be restored after migration.
Replace only the benefits you use. A customer who never played Apple Arcade should not add a paid gaming perk merely to preserve its nominal value.
Should you leave Verizon?
Compare the complete account, not just a carrier’s advertised phone-plan rate. Include the number of lines, device financing, insurance, watch and tablet service, international add-ons, Auto Pay discounts, remaining loyalty credits and the cost of replacing services such as Apple Arcade or music.
Also weigh coverage and congestion where your household actually lives, works and travels, plus hotspot limits, roaming, customer support, switching costs and any requirement to pay off devices. A cheaper carrier may not remain cheaper after comparable features are added. Conversely, if the lost credits materially change your bill and you do not use the old perks, switching may deserve a full quote.
Exceptions and account-specific uncertainty
Some customers on a MacRumors forum reported six-month Apple Arcade extensions or different end dates. These are customer-reported exceptions, not evidence of a Verizon-wide extension. Your notice, account records and bills control.

Multiple changes—such as a lost loyalty credit and a connected-device price change—can also appear together on one bill.
Practical decision rule
Keep your current Verizon service if its coverage, remaining discounts and features justify the revised total bill. Replace Apple Arcade only if the household actually uses it, and choose Apple One only when its other services provide real value. If the lost credits make Verizon materially more expensive, obtain competing full-account quotes before changing anything. Document the legacy account first, because a plan migration may be irreversible.
