A $15,000 ceiling can put older V8 muscle cars within reach, but it does not guarantee ten clean, roadworthy choices—or that a listing labeled “muscle car” has a V8. The available evidence supports four candidates to investigate: the 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T, 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS, fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28, and fourth-generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Treat them as search leads, not confirmed under-budget deals; verify the engine, condition and local asking price before comparing.
Why this is a shortlist, not a verified list of ten buys
Used-car prices and inventory vary by location, mileage, condition and other factors, as Kelley Blue Book (KBB) explains on its 2010 Dodge Challenger valuation page. The available price evidence does not establish ten distinct V8 models with current asking prices below $15,000. It would be misleading to turn secondary-roundup mentions into confirmed bargains or to treat a dated sale as a current offer.
One useful starting point is iSeeCars’ under-$15,000 muscle-car results, which have included a 2006 Mustang Premium. But a broad category page can include non-V8 versions; confirm the specific car’s engine rather than assuming its name or badge proves it.
Four V8 candidates to investigate
2010 Dodge Challenger R/T
KBB identifies the R/T’s engine as a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 rated at 372 horsepower on its 2010 model page. The R/T was offered with a five-speed AutoStick automatic or a six-speed manual. KBB’s $10,050 Fair Purchase Price on that page is for the least-expensive SE trim, not the R/T. The page says its value is valid through October 7, 2026, and notes that actual values vary with mileage, condition and location. Do not use the SE figure as evidence that an R/T is available under $15,000.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS
KBB lists the SS with a 455-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, while the LT uses a 335-horsepower 3.6-liter V6. That distinction matters when searching: an LT is not the V8 car described here. KBB’s page says its Fair Purchase Price is valid through October 7, 2026, but the available price information does not establish that an SS can be bought for less than $15,000. Treat it as a candidate to check locally, not a confirmed match for the budget. See KBB’s 2016 Camaro page.
Fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28
CLASSIC.COM identifies the fourth-generation Z28’s standard V8 as the 275-horsepower LT1. Its record for a 1993 Z28 includes a lowest recorded sale of $2,100 on July 27, 2026. That single historical transaction is not a current asking price, a typical value or evidence about the car’s condition, originality or roadworthiness. Check the specific car and its records. See CLASSIC.COM’s fourth-generation Camaro Z28 page.

Fourth-generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
CLASSIC.COM describes the non-WS6 Trans Am generation as spanning 1993–2002. It records a lowest sale of $4,411 for a 1993 Trans Am on September 3, 2026. That is one historical sale, not a current market quote or a guarantee of condition. Confirm the exact year and trim, and inspect the car before treating a low price as a viable purchase. See CLASSIC.COM’s fourth-generation Firebird Trans Am page.
How to check whether a listing really fits the budget
- Confirm the engine and trim. Check the listing details and vehicle identification number (VIN), then verify the engine on the car or through reliable vehicle records. Do not infer a V8 from a model family, broad search category or appearance.
- Compare asking prices for the same configuration. Use nearby listings for the same year, trim and transmission as context. Keep asking prices separate from valuation estimates and past auction or market sales; they are different kinds of evidence.
- Assess the whole car, not just the number. Review mileage, title and accident history, body and structural condition, and evidence of repairs. Arrange an independent inspection before buying, especially for an older car.
- Check whether the deal works for your finances. A $15,000 purchase ceiling is not the same as a $15,000 total ownership budget. Allow room for taxes, registration, insurance, inspection and repairs, and do not rely on an unusually low past sale to estimate those costs.
What the available price examples do—and do not—tell you
The figures below are useful reference points, but none establishes a currently available, inspected V8 car at that price.

| Example | Published figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 2010 Challenger SE | $10,050 Fair Purchase Price; KBB page valid through October 7, 2026 | For the least-expensive SE, not the R/T V8. |
| 1993 Camaro Z28 | $2,100 lowest recorded sale on July 27, 2026 | A historical recorded sale; not a current asking price or condition assessment. |
| 1993 Firebird Trans Am | $4,411 lowest recorded sale on September 3, 2026 | A historical recorded sale; not a current market quote or condition assessment. |
For context, KBB’s current Camaro page identifies a 6.2-liter V8 configuration for the 2024 model, but its cheapest displayed 2024 trim is $27,000. That does not support the claim that a late-model V8 Camaro can be bought below this article’s budget. See KBB’s Camaro page.

- EXPOSED DOHC V8 ARCHITECTURE: This model presents a V8 layout with two angled cylinder banks, four exposed overhead camshafts, dual timing-chain drives, a central intake section, and outward-facing exhaust headers. The open arrangement makes the major mechanical structures easy to identify before and during operation.
- PRECISION METAL CONSTRUCTION: Built from precision-cast and machined components in anodized aluminum and stainless steel. Defined surfaces, exposed fasteners, timing assemblies, and front pulleys reflect key structures found in modern V8 engine architecture while giving the completed model a detailed industrial finish.
- 500+ COMPONENT ASSEMBLY: Build the model from more than 500 labeled components, including precision metal parts, screws, and assembly hardware. Custom foam trays help organize and protect the parts, while the included tool set and full-color manual guide the approximately five-hour assembly process.
- MOTORIZED FOUR-STROKE MOTION: An electric motor concealed inside the starter housing drives the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, and valvetrain through a four-stroke mechanical sequence. Viewing openings reveal the internal movement, while the exposed camshafts, timing chains, and belt-driven pulleys show how motion is transferred across the assembled engine.
- MECHANICAL DISPLAY FOR HOME OR OFFICE: Measuring approximately 7.80 × 6.69 × 7.09 inches when assembled, the DM118 combines visible mechanical motion with detailed metal construction. Intended for ages 14 and above, it is suited to model builders, automotive enthusiasts, engineering fans, and hobbyists for display in a home, office, study, studio, or workshop. A metal gift box is included.
