The Times of India reported on October 2, 2026, citing department officials, that this was a partial payment against a reported tax assessment of ₹12.50 crore; the report said the company’s directors sought time to pay the balance.
What was reported in the Eden GST case?
The Times of India reported that the Uttarakhand tax department assessed Eden Senior Living & Wellness for ₹12.50 crore in tax liability and recovered ₹2.25 crore from the company. The ₹2.25 crore was therefore a partial payment, not the full reported assessment. The newspaper said directors asked for more time to pay the remaining amount; it did not establish that the balance was later paid.
The reported figures are based on statements by department officials in the newspaper’s account. No case-specific department notice or assessment order was available to independently confirm the assessment or recovery.
What GST issue did officials allege?
Deputy Commissioner Suresh Kumar told The Times of India that Eden used input tax credit (ITC) claimed on construction-related purchases against GST liability on flat sales, rather than paying that liability in cash. Kumar said the company was not legally permitted to use ITC for the liability at issue. That is the official’s case-specific characterization as reported by the newspaper; without the underlying assessment order or another legal finding, it should not be treated as an independently established conclusion.

What did the reported investigation involve?
The newspaper said the department’s Special Investigation Branch inspected the premises over Thursday and Friday. According to Kumar, the team collected documents and information from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority, district magistrate’s office, mining section and other departments, and seized company business records.
The report also said company directors, legal advisers and other representatives present during the investigation admitted to a tax-payment error, based on GST portal data and documents collected during the inspection. This account of an admission comes from the newspaper’s reporting of Kumar’s statement; no separate company testimony was available to verify it.

What is Eden Senior Living & Wellness?
The Times of India described Eden as a private real-estate and wellness company operating an assisted-living facility for senior citizens in Purkul, with studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. The report concerns the company’s alleged GST treatment of flat-sale liability, not a finding about the quality or operation of its senior-care services.

GST is administered in Uttarakhand by the state’s tax function under the Finance Department; the state department’s introduction says GST took effect on July 1, 2017. That general background does not independently confirm the Eden case.

The later payment status and any subsequent case-specific official action were not established in the available reporting. The GST Council’s separate 2021 advance ruling concerning M/s Antara Purukul Senior Living Limited is about another applicant and a different issue; it is not evidence about Eden or this reported recovery.
