USDA Sales Snapshot: China Bought 332,000 Metric Tons of U.S. Soybeans After the October 2025 Summit

USDA daily sales announcements identified 332,000 metric tons sold to China after the October 2025 summit, while separate sales to unknown destinations could not be attributed to China.

In a November 17, 2025 snapshot, USDA daily sales announcements identified two purchases of U.S. soybeans by China totaling 332,000 metric tons after the October 2025 U.S.–China leaders’ summit. That was far below the purchase figures U.S. officials had described—but it was not a complete tally of all sales booked during the period, and the snapshot should not be mistaken for today’s trade total.

What USDA’s reported sales showed

Farm Policy News reported on November 17, 2025, that USDA daily announcements had identified two sales to China totaling 332,000 metric tons since the summit in South Korea. The announcements establish reported sales to that destination; they are not, by themselves, a record of completed shipments.

The same summary listed two other daily sales totaling 355,000 metric tons for unknown destinations. Because the buyer was not identified, those sales cannot be counted as confirmed purchases by China. The report also cautioned that additional sales could appear in USDA weekly reports, so 332,000 metric tons was not necessarily the full amount booked during the period. Farm Policy News’ November 17, 2025 summary.

How that compared with the stated purchase expectations

The November reporting attributed much larger figures to Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins: 12 million metric tons by January, followed by 25 million metric tons annually for each of the next three years. These were publicly described expectations or commitments, not USDA’s measured sales total. On the figures in the November snapshot, the two confirmed China sales amounted to only a small fraction of the 12-million-ton figure.

  • Easy Direct Sow: edamame seeds for planting outdoors need 1" depth and 12" spacing, no trellis required; bush habit suits containers or raised beds, making veggie seeds ideal for small spaces.
  • Disease-Smart Cultivation: edamame seeds to plant resist common pests when grown in full sun and evenly moist soil; gardening kit growers mulch to conserve water and pick bright green pods before they yellow.

The report said Chinese officials had not specifically confirmed those purchase commitments at the time. It relayed an unofficial translation of Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong’s statement: “China is an important participant in global agricultural trade and will continue to uphold an open and cooperative attitude.” That general statement did not specifically confirm the soybean figures. The Farm Progress report recounts the attributed figures and the spokesperson’s remarks.

Why the November sales pace was low

In the November 2025 reporting, CoBank lead economist for grains and oilseed Tanner Ehmke said China had bought supplies from Brazil and other South American countries, while tariffs left U.S. soybeans more expensive than Brazilian beans. He characterized the announced sales as far short of what U.S. officials had advertised: “We are still not even close to what has been advertised from the U.S. in terms of what the agreement would have been.” This was Ehmke’s contemporaneous market explanation, not a finding that every later sale or shipment would follow the same pattern. Why this is not a current China purchase total

The 332,000-metric-ton figure is a dated snapshot from November 17, 2025, based on daily announcements. A later Ag Bull Trading market update for the week ended September 17, 2026, reported 311,792 metric tons in U.S. soybean net sales, including 259,132 metric tons of new sales, and total U.S. 2026/27 soybean commitments of 10.170 million metric tons. Those figures cover U.S. sales and commitments overall, not China-specific purchases; they do not update the China total. Ag Bull Trading’s September 2026 update.

The cited reporting does not establish the latest China-specific USDA commitments as of October 8, 2026. Readers should therefore treat 332,000 metric tons as the amount identified in that November 2025 snapshot—not as a current total or a complete accounting of sales and deliveries.

This variety is perfect for outdoor gardening enthusiasts looking to optimize their yard space.
  • RICH IN PROTEIN & OIL WITH VERSATILE USES: Containing about 18% oil and 38% protein, this soybean variety is perfect for producing high-quality soy bean oil and protein-rich meal. • OPTIMAL PLANTING GUIDELINES FOR MAXIMUM YIELD: For best results, plant soybean seeds at a depth of 0.75 to 1.5 inches, with row spacing between 7.5 and 15 inches, depending on soil type and tillage. This ensures uniform seed placement and optimal growth, adapting well to midwestern states and capturing a significant percentage of non-GMO acres.

A great addition to feed mixes for cowpeas and other legumes.
  • ECONOMIC AND NUTRITIONAL: As the most economically important bean globally, soybeans provide essential vegetable protein for millions and are key ingredients in hundreds of chemical products. A 60-pound bushel of our soybeans seed yields about 11 pounds of crude soybean oil and 47 pounds of soybean meal. Beneficial for producing shelf-stable goods for long-term use.
