What is USAFacts?
USAFacts is a nonpartisan organization founded by Steve Ballmer. It gathers government information from federal, state and local databases, then adds context such as trends and presents the data through charts, graphics and other accessible formats. Its about page says access to its data is free and that the organization does not accept advertising dollars.
That public-facing remit differs from Woodman’s recent work at DataKind, which focused on applying data science and AI to challenges faced by nonprofit organizations.

What Woodman did at DataKind
In a March 11, 2026 retrospective, Woodman said she planned to step down from DataKind at the end of that month, after nearly five years as CEO. She described a shift from custom data-science projects toward reusable tools and platforms designed to serve more organizations.
Edvise as an example of reusable data work
Woodman cited Edvise, a student-success platform that began with John Jay College to help identify students at risk of dropping out and developed into a scalable, AI-powered platform. DataKind reported that by its launch year Edvise had exceeded adoption targets and reached more than 70 institutions. That is an organization-reported figure, not an independently audited count, and it describes DataKind’s work—not an outcome at USAFacts.
What the appointment means—and what it does not establish
The appointment connects Woodman’s experience with technology, public data and nonprofit data work to USAFacts’ goal of helping the public understand government information. In its announcement, founder Steve Ballmer said her leadership would help the organization continue providing transparent, trustworthy government data as AI reshapes how information is produced and consumed. Woodman said she was joining at a moment when technology is changing how people access and understand information about government.

Those statements describe the leaders’ expectations, not measured results. The appointment announcement does not establish that Woodman has already changed USAFacts’ products, data practices or impact.
A broader data initiative in 2026
In a July 14, 2026 article, USAFacts described a partnership with the Center for Open Data Enterprise on a vision for modernizing the national data ecosystem. The joint initiative said it brought together more than 150 data experts and framed modernization as increasingly important as AI raises demands on government data. That is the partners’ account of the effort; it does not show that Woodman personally authored every element or that the initiative has produced particular outcomes.
