The UPSC ESIC Nursing Officer Detailed Application Form (DAF) window was announced on November 25, 2024, with a reported deadline of December 8, 2024. It was a stage for candidates already shortlisted after the 2024 recruitment test, not an open application for nurses in general. The “begins today” wording in the original headline refers to that 2024 publication date. As of October 2026, the window is closed, and the 2024 recruitment cycle has moved past this stage.

What “today” meant in the original headline

The headline “UPSC ESIC Nursing Officer DAF application begins today; check details here” was published by Scroll on November 25, 2024. Any reader arriving from a search for that wording is looking at a notice that has expired. The DAF deadline reported at the time was December 8, 2024. Nothing in the current official listings checked for this article shows a reopened or extended DAF window.

Who the DAF was for

The DAF was not a general application. It followed the 2024 recruitment test and was limited to candidates UPSC shortlisted. NDTV India reported on November 26, 2024 that 3,321 candidates had been shortlisted for a drive to fill 1,930 posts. The 1,930-post figure also appears in the UPSC recruitment advertisement for the 2024 Nursing Officer recruitment in ESIC. The 3,321 figure is NDTV’s reported count; it has not been confirmed here against an official UPSC result notice.

What shortlisted candidates had to supply

The UPSC advertisement states that shortlisted candidates would need to submit documents supporting the claims they made. The sources available for this article do not reproduce the full DAF instructions or a complete list of certificates, so no universal checklist should be assumed. Candidates in a similar situation today should work from three places:

  • The DAF instructions issued with that specific cycle’s notice, which set out what must be uploaded and in what format.
  • The eligibility and claims stated in the original advertisement, such as qualifications, experience and any category or relaxation claimed.
  • Their own records, kept in one folder, so every claim made in the form can be matched to a document.

The process described for this stage was online. Some secondary coverage suggests printing a copy of the completed form for reference. That is a sensible habit, but the sources do not establish that any physical copy was mandatory.

Current status of the 2024 cycle

Reporting from Amar Ujala and Careers360, both dated July 17, 2025, covers the final result for the 2024 cycle. That places the DAF in the past. The cycle did not end at the DAF stage, and its final outcome is what matters for anyone who took part.

A closed notice does not mean ESIC will never recruit Nursing Officers through UPSC again. It only means that no new DAF window is open for this cycle.

How to check for a future Nursing Officer notice

  1. Open the official UPSC website and go to its recruitment or advertisement listings.
  2. Search for “Nursing Officer” together with “ESIC,” and check the advertisement date against the year you are looking at.
  3. Read the eligibility, number of vacancies, closing date, required documents and submission method in that notice itself. Do not rely on a secondary article’s summary.
  4. If a notice cites a DAF or document-verification stage, follow the instructions in that notice. Do not reuse links or dates from the 2024 cycle.

Reading old recruitment news safely

Recruitment headlines often carry a date-specific word such as “today” or “till” that becomes misleading within weeks. Before acting on any such headline, confirm three things: the publication date, the closing date stated in the official notice, and whether the notice belongs to the same cycle as the article. For this topic, all three point to a finished 2024 cycle.

Figures from 2024 reporting are useful for understanding how the stage worked, but they are not a guide to a current opening.
