The UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Main Examination, 2025 was scheduled for 21 and 22 June 2025. It has since concluded. The detailed timetable copy lists morning and afternoon sessions on both days, with papers varying by discipline and post.
UPSC Geo-Scientist mains dates and session timetable
UPSC’s revised annual programme set 21 June as the start date and gave the mains a two-day duration; the examination notice specified 21 and 22 June. A published timetable copy hosted by a third party provides the session times and paper sequence below. Times are Indian Standard Time (IST).
| Date | Session | Papers listed |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday, 21 June 2025 | 9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon | Geology Paper I; Geophysics Paper I; Chemistry Paper I |
| Saturday, 21 June 2025 | 2:30–5:30 p.m. | Geology Paper II; Geophysics Paper II; Chemistry Paper II |
| Sunday, 22 June 2025 | 9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon | Geology Paper III; Geophysics Paper III; Chemistry Paper III |
| Sunday, 22 June 2025 | 2:30–5:30 p.m. | Hydrogeology |
The timetable copy says candidates competing for Geologist, Group A, must appear in Geology Papers I, II and III. The listed papers are not all applicable to every candidate: the required papers depend on the post and discipline. Because the detailed session schedule is from a third-party-hosted copy, candidates should rely on their own UPSC e-admit card and candidate materials for applicable papers and instructions.
Centres and candidate-specific instructions
UPSC’s examination notice listed nine centres: Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Shimla. This general list does not establish an individual candidate’s venue. The assigned centre and operational instructions should be checked on the candidate’s own admit card.

Where the mains fit in the selection process
The examination notice covered recruitment to posts associated with the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines, and the Central Ground Water Board, including Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist and Hydrogeology-related positions. Candidates declared qualified in the Preliminary Examination could take the mains.
The Preliminary Examination was held on 9 February 2025. UPSC and government records later confirmed that the mains took place on 21–22 June, followed by personality tests in September 2025. The 2025 schedule is therefore a record of a completed examination, not an upcoming June date.
