The application window for the UPPSC Combined State Engineering Services (General/Special Recruitment) Examination 2024 closed on 17 January 2025. The notice, Advertisement No. A-9/E-1/2024, was issued on 17 December 2024, and the fee reconciliation and application correction window closed on 24 January 2025. This article is a reference for the closed notice, not an open call for applications.
Key dates from the notice
The notice set a short, fixed calendar. Candidates had to submit their online application and fee by the first deadline, and the second window was limited to reconciling fees and correcting or modifying submitted details.

As of October 2026, none of these dates can be used to apply. Any later stage of the examination is handled through the candidate dashboard described below.
Vacancies and what the count means
At publication, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) listed 604 posts: 582 under general recruitment and 22 under special recruitment. The notice describes this as the number “presently” available. It also says the government may ask for increases or decreases before the preliminary result, depending on circumstances and requirements. A candidate should therefore treat 604 as the count at the time of the notice, not a fixed final figure.
The notice also sets a shortlisting ratio. Candidates are called forward from the preliminary examination to the mains examination at 15 times the number of vacancies. For the 604 posts, that is a stated ratio, not a guarantee of any particular number of candidates.
Eligibility
Age limit
For the general category, candidates had to be at least 21 and not older than 40 on 1 July 2024. The notice sets out several upper-age relaxations, and these are summarised here rather than reproduced in full:
- Five years for listed Uttar Pradesh SC, ST and OBC candidates, specified Uttar Pradesh government employees and other named groups.
- Fifteen years for eligible persons with disabilities who are residents of Uttar Pradesh.
- Provisions for eligible ex-service personnel, as set out in the notice.
Because these are summaries, a candidate should check the exact wording of the notice before relying on any relaxation.
Educational qualifications
The required qualification depended on the post and engineering branch. The notice refers to engineering degrees or accepted equivalent qualifications for the relevant posts. Two rules applied to every post. Candidates had to hold all requisite qualifications by the last application date, and those still appearing in their essential qualifying examination were not eligible to apply. The branch-by-branch requirement is in the notice itself and should be read for each post rather than applied across the board.
Application fee
The preliminary application fee was set by category. The table below reproduces the amounts listed in the notice.

The state-specific fee rows apply only to the Uttar Pradesh categories named in the notice. Candidates from other states who claim a category should check the notice’s category rules rather than assume these figures.
How the application worked
The application was online and depended on a One Time Registration (OTR) number. The notice states the requirement directly:
“It is mandatory for the candidates to make One Time Registration (O.T.R.) and obtain O.T.R. Number before applying online.”

- Register on the UPPSC portal at uppsc.up.nic.in and obtain an OTR number.
- Log in with the OTR and begin the CES 2024 application for the post and branch you qualify for.
- Fill in personal, educational and category details, then pay the fee for your category by 17 January 2025.
- Use the 24 January 2025 window only to reconcile fees and correct or modify details.
The notice said hard copies of the application and supporting documents were not to be sent at the preliminary examination stage. Candidates were expected to keep their own records of the submitted form and payment.

Preliminary examination
The preliminary examination was held at various centres. Candidates called forward on the 15-times ratio moved to the mains.
Mains examination
The mains is a separate written examination. Papers are branch-specific.
Interview and final selection
Only candidates who pass the mains are called for an interview. Final selection is based on the total marks obtained in the mains and the interview.

The notice describes vertical reservation for eligible Uttar Pradesh categories and horizontal categories under applicable government rules. Reservation benefits described in the notice are tied to Uttar Pradesh eligibility. Candidates from other states should not assume they qualify for Uttar Pradesh vertical categories.
Where the examination stands now
UPPSC’s official previous-question-paper archive, checked in October 2026, lists Combined State Engineering Services (Mains) Examination 2024 papers for Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Each branch is listed with a General Hindi paper and a discipline paper. These papers show that the mains stage took place, but they do not by themselves show the final result or appointment status.
UPPSC’s candidate portal states that the OTR number is the registration number for applications and directs candidates to the dashboard for application, examination and interview information. Candidate-specific notices appear there rather than in press coverage of the original advertisement.
